That would be interesting. After the devastation of the Kaioshin's own world in the Buu arc, it's possible a Makaioshin would feel that the opportune moment to strike is at hand.SaiyaJedi wrote:So, back to some more meaningful discussion...![]()
On seeing the tag line, one of my first impressions (which we ultimately cut from the news post for being too speculative in nature) was that the wording of "God(s)" as "Shin" was in some way tied to "Shin" the character, a.k.a. Kaiōshin. That would turn the blurb into, "The curtain rises on Shin's battle". Someone about to challenge his cosmic authority over on Kaiōshin-Kai, perhaps?

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
Hey, I tried to have a meaningful discussion about the idea of expanded deities or whatever a couple pages back. It got glossed over in favor of the other stuff, I guess because even with the new tidbits we still don't have a lot to talk about, so I just went with the flow. -_-
We know the god hierarchy is involved with this movie in some way, whether it is expanding or whatever. Even if the new characters are some sort of completely new deity or not, I get the feeling we may actually see some sort of inclusion of the Shinjin, Kaishin, the Kaiju and perhaps the Makaioshin (unless Toriyama ignores his SEG info and goes a different direction with the "link" between the gods). I'd enjoy the movie going into these details at least a little, and the idea of it starting with the new baddies challenging Kaioshin for his position would be good enough for me; perhaps even wanting to protect their new rule by taking out the old system and attempting to destroy Kaishin and the Kaiju to prevent the Shinjin from possibly rising up after more golden fruit are grown in the future.

I'm not seeing a double standard. It seems most of the people defending Gohan being Super Saiyan are also defending it being in GT. And I am opposed to it here and GT unless we get an explanation.mattymoron wrote:Lol, I like the double-standard here about Gohan's hair:
When he turns Super Saiyan in GT: GAWD, GT SO DUMB. GOHAN GOT MYSTIC HE CAN'T GO SUPER SAIYAN NO MOAR!
Super Saiyan In The New Movie: Well, I mean, they never outright STATED Gohan can't go Super Saiyan. That's just a theory.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
It was getting a little too far over into fan-wank about Gohan's powers and authorial intent. It is something to talk about, as much as you can talk about power levels and whether Superman could beat Goku, but there's no need to get all bent out of shape. There's especially no need to drag in Dragon Ball Online and confuse the discussion (and everyone in it) by not labeling clearly what's being talked about.NeoKING wrote:Not seeing how they weren't having meaningful discussions. All we have to speculate on is what we've seen from posters. Their concerns about Gohan's power as seen in promotions for the movie are legit; so leave them be.SaiyaJedi wrote:So, back to some more meaningful discussion...![]()
That's fair enough, but one has to remember that Goku & co. have been more powerful than the gods themselves for quite a while by this point. It's not exactly shocking that he'd be outclassed, and much of the humor in the Buu arc derives from him consistently being shown up, not only by the main characters, but also by his predecessor, who's a dirty old man. That still doesn't change the fact that he is the de facto ultimate authority in the Dragon Ball universe, and naturally, someone who wanted to take over would aim to usurp his position. Besides, if he were powerful enough to handle the threat on his own, there would be no reason to call in the heroes, and there would be no story, would there?NeoKING wrote:Doubt it. Kaioshin's really a disgrace. If someone really wanted to take his spot I doubt they'd have a hard time.SaiyaJedi wrote:On seeing the tag line, one of my first impressions (which we ultimately cut from the news post for being too speculative in nature) was that the wording of "God(s)" as "Shin" was in some way tied to "Shin" the character, a.k.a. "Supreme Kai" is the name FUNimation's English-language dub gave Kaiōshin, yes. The original name roughly means "God of the Kaiō", putting him a rank above the next-highest deities in the series' cosmos.NeoKING wrote:"Kaioshin" is Supreme Kai, right?
I second this sentiment. I would love to see the Dragon Ball cosmos expanded upon in the animation with material from the companion books. People can argue all they want about "canon"; there's lots of little things that have been added to the mythos over the years, through interviews and little tidbits in the various guidebooks, that I would love to see adapted into something on the screen. It would have the added benefit of being something that carries an actual sense of scale and urgency, rather than some piddling combining villain who's already clearly outmatched by even the kids of the group.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:We know the god hierarchy is involved with this movie in some way, whether it is expanding or whatever. Judging from the news on the main page, it looks like the movie will be short.

Where on the main page does it say that? I re-read the “DBZ: Battle of Gods” Confirmed in Upcoming Jump Magazine article and there's nothing there about the movie's length.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:Judging from the news on the main page, it looks like the movie will be short.

I'm not seeing this either, though I suppose it could be short if there are to be double feature screenings with the One Piece film.Chuquita wrote:Where on the main page does it say that? Doesn't One Piece Film Z hover around the 90 minute mark?Eddie wrote:I'm not seeing this either, though I suppose it could be short if there are to be double feature screenings with the One Piece film.Chuquita wrote:Where on the main page does it say that? I don't think the films are going to be showing back-to-back; the interpretation I got from the article was that it's a duel ticket in that you can use it for one showing of each movie.

This. There is a three month gap between the release of One Piece's "Z" and DBZ's "Battle of Gods".Chuquita wrote:I don't think the films are going to be showing back-to-back; the interpretation I got from the article was that it's a duel ticket in that you can use it for one showing of each movie.

I believe it's about 105-107 minutes long, actually.DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:Doesn't One Piece Film Z hover around the 90 minute mark?

I kind of doubt this one would be too short. They have to know that after this long a wait, fans would be pretty upset if they got another 50 minute movie.

Yeah, I feel like it's going to be much closer to One Piece Z in terms of length. Maybe it'll be a little bit shorter, but about the same.

Your interpretation is correct. The films will not be shown back-to-back at the same time. The ticket merely guarantees you a seat to both, which is a great marketing strategy on Toei's part. So far there has been no mention of how long the film will be, but I agree that it will most likely be around the same length as "One Piece Film Z".Chuquita wrote:I don't think the films are going to be showing back-to-back; the interpretation I got from the article was that it's a duel ticket in that you can use it for one showing of each movie.

I guess that's nothing but a pun (真のバトル, a true battle), and not that meaningful at all.SaiyaJedi wrote:On seeing the tag line, one of my first impressions (which we ultimately cut from the news post for being too speculative in nature) was that the wording of "God(s)" as "Shin" was in some way tied to "Shin" the character, a.k.a. This is definitely... going to be interesting.
I actually mean that too, just... the design of the sphinx-God kinda caught me off guard. It actually resembles a monster from this one obscure monster-collecting JRPG I know of, but... it's not sphinx-like and only really similar in stature and color.
That is Chichi in the bottom left, right?

I think it's Videl in the bottom left, only with a new haircut/outfit. I'm not sure why she seems to be the only one to get an actual movie-exclusive outfit. That is a very Chi-Chi or child Gohan-ish haircut they gave her though.
I'm very interested in what different types of magical attacks are going to pop up in the movie; what with the miniaturized Pilaf Gang and ooc-Vegeta movie-related figurine.

I think Maximum the Hormone should do a cover of We Gotta Power!! for the opening theme.
Speaking of music though, I hope this movie has some sort of insert song that is played during the actual movie rather than being tacked on the opening or closing credits.
