I'd say that's almost an apples vs. oranges type of comparison. There are really only two similarities they share: they are set in the Dragon Ball universe and they are produced by Toei. Perhaps the biggest difference is you have (generally) self-contained movies which ranges from 45 to 90 minutes which are released maybe twice a year whereas GT is a 64 episode weekly anime.
One thing I could really do without hearing again is the whole "just a <insert whatever here> fan boy" thing if the preference for watching is not Japanese. It's insulting and is a prime example of the "elitist" mindset some people have over the so-called "proper" way to watch anime. I don't care if people prefer to watch anime in Japanese, it's how they enjoy the show and it doesn't affect me one bit. Despite all its flaws (yes, I
will readily admit the English dub is deeply flawed) the English dub with the Japanese score is my preferred way to watch the show.
For the record, lest I be labeled a "typical fan boy" for that preference, I
do have some sub-only anime and wouldn't touch the English dub even if it were available. Whether you like it or hate it, the FUNimation dub of DBZ isn't the absolute worst dub out there.

Speaking entirely for myself, my disinterest (I don't hate Kai, just am not interested in it) in Kai stems from the fact that it is edited. I don't care if it is closer to the manga, people complained about DBZ being edited as it was during the Saban-era, yet Toei seems to get the proverbial "free pass" for doing the same thing. Again, just like people preferring to watch in Japanese, I don't have any problem with people preferring to watch the Kai version. The same people probably also complain about the changes made to the Star Wars movies, when there is really no difference with Kai. It's not the original version and there are parts which are either re-animated or censored. However, unlike Star Wars, since both versions are available, we all have a choice and should not be subject to derisive comments for preferring one over the other.
Just because you grow up with something does not make it good. I grew up with the Sandy Frank dubs of the Showa Gamera films and I can admit that they suck.
Oh yes, I agree that just because you grew up with something or something is the original does not make it "the best" but just because it isn't the best doesn't mean you cannot overlook those flaws and just enjoy it. Isn't that the whole point of entertainment, to be entertained? If there are aspects to a certain version, be it a dub or the original, which hinders your ability to just enjoy what you're watching, why should you worry about acceptance from others who prefer this version when the alternative is what you really enjoy? With DBZ, I can learn what the intended story is while still enjoying a deeply flawed yet watchable dub. That wouldn't stop me from wishing it could have been done right in the first place, though.
