Dragon Ball things you never want to hear again
Re: Dragon Ball things you never want to hear again
When people say Kayo-Ken/Ko-Ken instead of Kaio-ken. It aggravates me for some reason. TFS made fun of that in a exclusive extra on one of the episodes that couldn't add the extra scene. Seriously why KO-Ken. Whether in english or japanese Kaio is either King Kai or Kaio, the technique is named Kaio-Ken after the Kai's. I blame funi/ocean for this mess.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

Re: Dragon Ball things you never want to hear again
I'm president of my local anime club, and I get really sick of seeing eyes roll and have people groan at me when I say my favorite anime is DBZ. Yes it's mainstream, but it has influenced many other animes, has an entire culture behind it, and is much longer standing than other anime! This doesn't hinder my ability to appreciate more obscure and newer anime, so I really get irked when people act like it does.
Not cool enough for the cool kids, not hipster enough for the anime fans. Story of my life.

I guess people groan at you since they are surprise that someone still cares for DBZ after it ended. I'm the not only the one that has seen people that gets mock for still liking DBZ.

Dragon Ball hate on the part of other anime fans really rubs me the wrong way and bewilders me. It's fine if you don't like it, and it's far from the best, but it's almost like the goddamned Black Sabbath of Shonen anime. Its influence alone warrants respect.

There's nothing like getting mocked by a 22 year old man for liking DBZ shortly before he asks that your club screen Moetan.

It is funny when you see people mock others for still liking DBZ or saying it's for kids when that person will have a t-shirt of Transformers or Bleach. Which are both made for kids and the original G1 series ended over 20 years ago. I personally don't care what other people like since it's their enjoyment after all. I have friends who like MLP (I never got into it) and I don't care if they like it. I also have a few friends who also hate TGWTG and they don't care if I like the site.

Wow I'm surprised people like that still exist. I thought the anime fandom was well passed the Z-hatin' phase. On a side-note, Naruto has seemingly fallen down that path as well.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

Well not every person in the US is into anime or fans like we are. I'm surprise if most causal people in the US are surprise that DBZ is still around after the early 2000's. While Kai is on Nick Toons, but I don't think most people outside the fandom even know that it exist. I have seen people stop using cable and use stuff like Netflix to stream shows & movies because cable has became too expensive over the years.

So I had to look that up because I had no idea what Moetan is. Now while I don't usually mock people for their taste I..umm... wow!Smochi wrote:There's nothing like getting mocked by a 22 year old man for liking DBZ shortly before he asks that your club screen Moetan.
I think western anime fans mock DBZ because it's an easy target. It's that show you watched as a kid, and now that you're grown up you can only watch real anime(like Moetan!
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?
Re: Dragon Ball things you never want to hear again
Too many of my friends are in the american anime industry for me to knock dubs, but I can't blame people who prefer subs. With me, I don't know a lick of Japanese, so I don't feel I can compare. All I can do is say whether the American performance is good or not. That being said, I think there's a culture of purism that leads to people thinking that watching anime in Japanese is loftier or better.
On topic, I think that anti-American sentiment goes towards DBZ, Naruto, and Bleach because it's so mainstream in America. Usually once an anime airs on American TV, it's met with an eyebrow raise, since if you didn't go out of your way to pirate or find it online, you're not a "real" anime fan. Which stinks, because when you like something as niche as anime, you shouldn't try so hard to judge people fr not liking the same ones as you.
Jeez am I sick of not being cool enough for other anime fans because I love DBZ. XD

Re: Dragon Ball things you never want to hear again
It's best to just ignore those people, but I definitely sympathize.
I hate when people start acting high and mighty just because I, or anyone else this happens to, just happen to be into a lot of Shonen Jump type shows, or the 'mainstream' ones, or dubs for that matter. People just like what they like. That's why I get so perturbed by the in-fighting in just the DBZ fanbase itself a lot. We've already got a lot of people eager to jump us for our interest in the series, do we really need to be jumping each other too?

I think if people saw the original Japanese they'd speak more positively about it, the old Funi dub is kinda facepalm worthy, lol...
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

"Raise the cave! Ra-ra-ra-ra-ra raise!" And everything associated with that.
Unless it's TFS, of course.

I hate it when people call the Harmony Gold Dub as the "Lost dub". If the dub still exist then it's not lost. I feel like most fans don't know even know what the term lost means? A movie like London After Midnight is lost since no copies of it exist and it's gone on the face of the Earth.

It may have been said. But I'd be happy to never hear "Step into the Grand Tour!" ever again.

Well, technically it was a Lost Dub for a while, seeing as nobody actually had a copy of the dub until somewhat recently with Movies 1 and 3.Hellspawn28 wrote:I hate it when people call the Harmony Gold Dub as the "Lost dub". The episodes though? Yeah, they're pretty much lost until copies can be found.

The dub is on Youtube. Something can't be lost if it still exist in some format. I guess the HG dub of the first five episodes might show up one day. If the rest of Metropolis (1927) can found then anything is possible.
