I doubt most people access the forums via the main site; I know I don't. But I do recommend you at least check it out every once in a while. Some of the news we post doesn't trickle down to the forums, or we include extra tidbits, links, and sources that don't appear here. It'd be very easy to miss something without checking the main site.eledoremassis02 wrote:Thank you! I'm always equally excited and depressed to bust out the old, "There's a site, too?!"

Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
There's a chance they'll do that, but they could also do it like with their digital edition and make up colors of their own (see Gyumao's case).omegalucas wrote: As for Kaio, have we ever seen him colored in the manga (except in the Kanzenban covers)? If not, I wouldn't be surprised if they stick to the anime colors for these characters that haven't been colored in the manga.
When it comes to Kaio, he doesn't appear much in Toriyama's artworks, and when he does, he seems to constantly change his color scheme in every single appearance (one artwork in the Daizenshuu, one on the side of the Tankobon collection, and two different versions on the Kanzenban covers - the latest version of him being colored by Toriyama as having the same colors than in the anime).
So it feels normal that they would stick to the anime colors if there's no clear, constant contradiction established by Toriyama at one point or another in the manga.
After all, the anime staff asked for his color schemes when a character never appeared with colors at least once in the manga (if I remember some of his Daizenshuu interviews - translated on Kanzenshuu - correctly).
And now we know one thing: on the contrary of the digital manga edition, they do not change color schemes suddenly when Toriyama did. Instead, they seem to choose one constant color scheme for a character and their clothes.
An exemple of possible consequences would be that if they go back to the beginning of the manga when they are done with the Z/Kai era, Bulma might have purple hair even in chapter 1.

That's fine with me. I'd prefer her to have purple hair throughout than green hair the whole way through.

Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
This is very exciting and, if they do intend to keep the color DB in their magazine up until the end of the series, then I might consider purchasing a subscription. I'll have to download one of them for 99 cents first just to see if it's something that I can use. Actually, could anyone tell me how their digital releases work? Is it in the form of a file that I can actually download and transfer to my Nook color? Is the subscription even compatible with the Nook color? That's the main thing for me because desktop viewing is something that I would rather avoid, and reading comics on an iPhone seems so impractical.

Thanks to Viz's piss-poor security and to a friend, I already have the first chapter of this. I won't be posting it because that'd be plain piracy, but I can answer some questions:
- Piccolo has his manga colours.
- Sound effects are still Japanese.
- It's the old translation with Piccolo speaking in formalese and whatnot.

Isn't it already "plain piracy" if you were to say, break their security or get it from your friend? But yeah, posting anything like that won't be tolerated on this forum, especially not something legitimately available.
Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
I suppose. Never had any intention to post it in the first place though.

Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
Yeah, posting a whole chapter is out of the question, you'd be giving for free what people should pay for, that doesn't make companies too happy (which is understandable)!
However, if I'm not mistaken, posting a few pictures is not illegal, I think you guys have a law which is called "fair use" or something?
The same thing that's on your version of Wikipedia and allows the use of any copyrighted pictures as long as there's not too many and that resolution is limited so that it just illustrates an explanation or a discussion and cannot be used otherwise.
Or maybe if the content is modified so that it's ultimately not the original? I don't really remember the details...
Anyway, we don't need illustrations for now, just explanations should be enough for most cases.
We certainly don't need any picture for revelations such as "[name of the character] has his anime/manga colors", since we know what it looks like.
It might be handy in the future if there are some specific things that are hard to convey with just words (new special effects on Super Saiyan auras or other unexpected stuff like that).

Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
Me like. Truth be told, I was indifferent toward whether the staff would use the anime colors or the (inconsistent) "manga colors." I'd actually like a combination of both. Give me purple-haired Bulma and stuff like that, but when color consistency wasn't followed in the original manga, use the anime colors. It looks like they're doing just that (kinda).Piccolo has his manga colours.
Sold.Sound effects are still Japanese.
That was really all it took for me. I know it was more-or-less already confirmed, but I will happily rebuy the manga for unedited artwork. It feels so weird/wrong to be excited about minor things like unedited sound effects, unadulterated middle-fingers, uncensored Gohan penis, and untouched guns, but hey, that's DragonBall for you...
Bah. Well, the other benefits still make this an improvement. It's the old translation with Piccolo speaking in formalese and whatnot.

If unedited SFX art means there's a chance for unedited guns and such in later volumes, I am more sold on this release from Viz than I already was.

Just ordered mine from CD Japan
Used SAL to save the most money. How's everyone been with CDJapan's SAL shipping?
Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
Better be buying the digital editions then because if those go unedited I doubt they'll stay that way for individual releases.Kaboom wrote:If unedited SFX art means there's a chance for unedited guns and such in later volumes, I am more sold on this release from Viz than I already was.

Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
Tss, despite the news clearly stating you have to be in the US or Canada to buy it, I had to check for myself that it wasn't possible for a French guy to have it!
That's too bad, I would have gladly bought those issues to have the color chapters.
As I said, since the import is quite a mess, all I needed was a digital release that you pay and have directly transfered on your computer wherever you are...
Well, the option available is more or less that, except for the "wherever you are" part.
Those scans of Kaioken Goku attacking Vegeta on the Kanzenshuu news, they just seem really great, beautiful in colors!

Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
So, I made a comparison shot using the images from the official site...

Seems they're gonna be adding some detail as well. If you look at the bottom image of Goku powering up, there are no shadows on his clothes in the black and white version. In the color version there are. I don't think it's a bad thing, I mean if you just colored it as-is, some of these panels might look a little flat.

Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
They've got to have decent security, they won't let me buy a subscription because I don't live in the USA / Canada. I want ot hand them $26 a year until they finish DBZ. I've got a question though, how do their digital downloads work, is it a file that has to be used by a specific program or is it something like Adobe PDF where your phone and PC etc can open it. Is there an option to print?Puto wrote:Thanks to Viz's piss-poor security and to a friend, I already have the first chapter of this. Yeah, it definitely takes a hit in terms of simplistic charm, but that panel with Gohan and Kuririn really comes alive with the added color.JulieYBM wrote:The colored version really loses some punch.
It's different, but I like it.
