How tall are the character in dragonball ?

Well, ever since I became a fan of dragonball I have always ask myself: How tall is Vegeta, and Goku. They seem really tall but i do not know any canon information about this topic.

Well, through out the show there really is no points made about height differences between characters, outside the realm of ribbing (atleast that I remember.)

Now also take into account that heights and body builds change dramaticly between episodes, and seasons, because of the range of animators involved in the project. (The same can also be said for clothing appearances, etc.)
So other than gleaning a 'rough estimate' between two characters, there really is no -standard- one can look to to define just how tall that they really are.

To continue, I believe (althought not 100% certain) that the character bio Daizenshuu contains a small bit of detail about the characters in general (presumably including a height listing). Though, even with a height estimation one may or may not come to a sufficient conclusion, considering that the 'Dragon World' is different from our approximation of Earth; so height estimates may not compare well between our estimations of height.

Although, if someone can come up with a logical approximation for height that is logical to the presentation of DragonBall in and of itself, I am all ears.

Vegeta: 3 ft, 5 in.

Vegeta isn't tall.
Now, you certainly remeber how tall Piccolo Daimao was in the begining. He was a giant! However, he got smaller troughout the series!!

Wow, It always suprised me when people would actually want to know how tall these people were in Dragonball. Can't you just tell by looking at them? Ok, well I looked it up in one of my Dragonball books and here are the answers...

Piccolo - Tall
Vegeta - Short
Goku - Kinda tall but not as tall as Piccolo

Goku was 175 cm according to the Daizenshuu. So not that big.

This being said, many animators measure characters height through head units using circles stacked one on yop of the other, each about the size of an average characters head. I'll try to get up a decent head count for as many of the characters as I can in a little while.

Well, since I started this topic I will give my views.after seeing thos pictures i come to the conclusion that if goku is 175 cm. Then Vegeta must be 160 cm. Chi-Chi, Bulma, 17 and Videl are about 155-150 cm. Piccolo must be 190 cm. Kuririn is 140 cm. (wow, he is shor). Well those are my aproximations.

If Goku's 5'7, that's calculate DBZ heads to be 11inches, which makes vegeta 4'8 (tops) Piccolo 6'6, Krillin as 3'9... even for japanese that's coming up a bit small. Wouldn't these results be for End of DB anyway? The women are getting severely midget sized, even for japanese people *blink* (no offense)

I take the DBZ heads as 12 inches, which knocks them up a couple more inches. (the heights fluctuate, I know Goku gained height in the DB series ^^; ) at 12 inches you can take heads tall directly as feet tall-

n RL standards, a head is 9 inches tall. Take that and apply it to the DBZ characters and you get, oh, saiyan saga Vegeta as... 3 foot tall. Goku as 4"8 X3 it's amazing how much a couple of inches make.

When I compare the heights here with the heads-tall in DB; (particulaly Chaozu, who acording to this should be neck and neck with Vegeta!? ) it doesn't quite make sense *blink*

Sounds like more a disinterested afterthought than a work of logic or mathmatics.

Artists, generaly, work only by heads tall into their own styles. When you study anatomy, RL proportions are 7/8 heads tall for women and 8/9 heads tall for men. I've never actually seen a book, (letalone another artist) that works out how to draw a character by their heights.

'Heads tall' is practicly the artists' metrics XD

Ironicaly, on that japanese Mcdonalds site with DBZ-- you can enjoy your Goku and Vegeta in real life proportions!

Toriyama ignores the head rule generally, even later on in his style. He has no qualms about making certain characters 2 and a half heads tall or 10 heads tall. And I think we can take it for granted that Kuririn and Vegeta are going to be ridiculously short because Gokuh is pretty much average japanese height. I don't see why people have such a problem with this.
