Re: Unpopular DB opinions
I agree with the TFS sentiment (no disrespect to anyone who enjoys their work). I liked the first two episodes, then began my love-hate relationship with the series. I consistently watched up 'til the end of the Saiyan arc, but gave up hope at Ghost Nappa's appearance.

They wanna turn up hours late and steal the show from the pros who had to die for the name." - Yamcha (DBWTF: Z-Rap 3)
"Over saturation is easy. Just drag the slider to the right and there you are: instant interest. And certainly, the majority of the public likes saturated color images. In fact, if you want to quickly create a popular image, simply over saturate the colors and increase the contrast. While you may not achieve a sophisticated image, you will achieve an image that will please a less demanding audience." - Alain Briot

Ghost Nappa is hardly even a thing... He goes away permanently at the end of the Freeza arc anyway...

I still don't really like what they did with the Freeza saga. I've watched at least one or two episodes. To me, the best episodes will always be one and two. I just really like the dynamic that Piccolo and Goku had, and the humor wasn't too random yet (other than Goku asking if Piccolo is a Yoshi).

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
- I love movie 7. Like...I think it's my favorite. Partly because it was my first exposure to Japanese Dragon Ball after only having seen the ocean dub of DBZ, and partly because I like the environments (city scenes are always a treat), color palette (lots of blues), and character designs. Especially that little robot with the big hat. I love that guy.
- I don't like Vegeta that much. So whiney. So. whiney.
- I don't like movie 8 that much. Vegeta is ridiculously lame in this movie. And it's long and boring.
- I think Cell is kind of lame. The bad guy who has all the powers of all the characters? That seems too easy and too cliche to me. He doesn't even have an interesting personality to make up for it.

Here's one. I can watch and actually enjoy GT. It isn't easy to sit through some stuff, but I like the continuation and knowing that "life goes on" for the characters.
I also hate that many things are coming out in the last few years because I think they're unoriginal and boring and I can't stand it tarnishing the memory of the series for me. Many people love the Jump Special and the Episode of Bardock and are excited for the Battle of the Gods movie, but I dislike all that stuff and just know in my.guts that the movie will be horrible (in my opinion).

I like the synthetic pop rock sound used in the Faulconer Productions score and think it's just as fitting for DBZ as the sound Shunsuke Kikuchi used.
I like the way Vegeta is portrayed in Movie 8, it makes you realize just how terrifying Broli must be to Vegeta and it makes it more triumphant when Vegeta finally stands up to Broli.

The Cell Games was the weakest climax of the four climaxes in the DBZ portion of the series.

So, you think a climax that actually has a remotely meaningful message to send is weaker than a Deux Ex Machina (Majin Boo Saga)? I know it's just an opinion but it still flabbergasts me.DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:The Cell Games was the weakest climax of the four climaxes in the DBZ portion of the series.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
"Weakest" may have been a bad choice of words. I dunno, maybe simply "least favourite" says it better.
I really do want to like this portion of the series and it was my favourite as a kid, and there is definitely a lot of good stuff in it like Goku's sacrifice, Gohan's transformation, etc. but watching it on DBox 5 recently, I wasn't overly impressed by it (I did enjoy it in the Manga though, and I haven't seen Kai in a while).
Maybe I need to give it a re-watch without Mr. Satan constantly popping in and out with his comments, but I really did enjoy the final Genki Dama, Goku vs. Freeza (DBKai) and Goku vs. Vegeta that little bit more.

Ocean Dub provides better voices, even on their worst days, than most of the FUNi cast. It's more about delivery than the voice itself. Delivery is very important. Also, you guys need to re-watch Dead Zone with the Ocean Cast. Don Brown's Garlic Jr is not too far off from the Japanese version and sounds threatening; actually, he is the on of the most successful DB villains! Funimations voices for Dead Zone are weak, and sound too much like a parody than a serious effort for a movie dub.
Also, Ten vs Yamcha is one of the best fights in the whole series. It's just too damn awesome.

My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada
Re: Unpopular DB opinions
It's certainly the best part of those respective arcs- Artifical Human and Cell arcs IMO. Those arcs were a mess apart from Trunks killing Freeza and Cold (which I still like despite thinking Freeza should have stayed dead on Namek), the early Artifical Human stuff (maybe until Vegeta destroys #19) and when Cell first appears.DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:The Cell Games was the weakest climax of the four climaxes in the DBZ portion of the series.
Which leads me to say as a whole I think the highs of the Boo arc are better than almost everything in the Artifical Human/Cell arcs. I think the Artifical Humans are the worst villians of all Dragonball.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
I'm on the complete opposite end, I've always thought the only time Ocean did a better then Funi were the first 3 films (even then I still think Funi has the better voices for the main villains). The Ocean dub for the Saiyan/Namek arcs is decent but it's filled with over the top momments like "OVER 9000!" Ian Corletts extremely overrated Hayden Christensen-esc performance as Goku that gives 1999 Sean Schemmel a run for his money doesn't help either. The Cell/Andriod arc is pretty much a joke with a couple of good screams here and there, and the Buu arc ranges from decent to somewhat decent.Attitudefan wrote:Ocean Dub provides better voices, even on their worst days, than most of the FUNi cast. Yes to this. Mr. Satan comes really close to ruining the whole Cell Games for me. He is the freaking Jar Jar Binks of Dragon Ball. He is just one joke that repeats over and over and over and over, and it's not even that funny the first time. Every time I hear "t-t-t-trick" I groan.DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote: Maybe I need to give it a re-watch without Mr. Satan constantly popping in and out with his comments [...]
Even worse are his pupils. The episode where he and his pupils fight Cell is horrible. It is the only episode that I actually hate. It really pains me to say that, though.
Wow, I feel bad about how harsh that sounded. That's probably the most negative I will ever be about anything Dragon Ball, thank goodness, but it really bugs me.

I liked him best during the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai when he and his gay lover Chaozu actually had personalities.Saiga wrote:He does seem to be the least interesting of the humans.Gonstead wrote:Tenshinhan is a boring character.
EDIT:
The Boo arc isn't exactly the most tightly woven story arc itself. Aside from adding closure to Goku and Vegeta's rivarly, and everything before Boo was hatched it was a huge clusterfuck of mergers, transformations, and power-ups. Not to mention it's ultimately pointless, and Boo itself wasn't terribly threatening.DBZ Mick wrote:It's certainly the best part of those respective arcs- Artifical Human and Cell arcs IMO. Personally, I quite like that episode. But I do get your point on how annoying Mr. Satan could be, in the frequency he showed up in the Cell Games episodes. They really did beat that joke into the ground. Still, episode-padding filler. What can you do? ... Well, other than wait longer to adapt a manga to allow for the manga to give enough material to adapt without having to resort to that... Buuuuuut, of course, that's not exactly feasible.Pretorious wrote:Yes to this. Mr. Satan comes really close to ruining the whole Cell Games for me. He is the freaking Jar Jar Binks of Dragon Ball. The best part of the Majin Buu arc (besides Vegetto) is that Toonami ad with the radio broadcast.
