Re: How violent will the new movie be?
I'd say JAWS is as violent. Kid dies in an explosion of blood, guy's head with popped eye appears to someone, a guy's leg is shown ripped off and floating down to the sea floor, Quint coughs up a massive amount of blood when the shark bites through him.I have and that wasn't as violent unless you considered bloody water violent which IS in Dragon Ball and isn't anywhere close to the most gruesome parts.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

There are many equally disturbing scenes in the anime, like the one right after this where Gero shoves his arm through Yamcha's chest causing a lot of blood to spill out of him when he takes it out.Gonstead wrote:Was only present in the Manga, not in the Anime.Nex Carnifex wrote:

IIRC we don't actually see blood spill out of him, only Gero's arm go through the back of Yamcha with a little blood on Gero's hand.Nex Carnifex wrote:There are many equally disturbing scenes in the anime, like the one right after this where Gero shoves his arm through Yamcha's chest causing a lot of blood to spill out of him when he takes it out.Gonstead wrote:Was only present in the Manga, not in the Anime.Nex Carnifex wrote:

Not in the anime, should I get the video?
Re: How violent will the new movie be?
Okay, so there is a bit of blood when Gero pulls his arm out.
Even then though, I'd find the scene from the Manga more violent than what Gero did to Yamcha and not because I'm making a Yamcha joke either.

there's a lot of blood right after he pulls out his hand...
And the nature of the fights isn't really PG either, characters regularly get their necks snapped, impaled, tortured, body parts ripped off, insides blown up, crushed, sucked out. heads blown off...I don't know I just feel all the shit that they get away with since its a cartoon would probably earn a live action movie depicting it PG-13...or R is they really kept every detail. Really you can take any fight, but just look towards the end of the first fight against Vegeta, everyone is covered in blood, its fine since its all animated, but in live action it would be a lot more grotesque, especially with little children (Gohan) included in on the violence.

Re: How violent will the new movie be?
When was Dragon Ball ever violent to begin with? Punches and kicks equal violence? It was either training or self-defence.
Note: Except the very few times of Freeza, Androids and Cell's small violent scenes.

Re: How violent will the new movie be?
Nah, I don't think so. DBKai had edited the scenes with too much blood, and from what I've seen in the Naruto & One Piece anime compared to the manga versions (and from what I've heard about others), Japan has changed since the 80s/90s when Dragon Ball/Z/GT was airing, there is less violence in the anime series nowadays.

Freeza was just disposing of green midget Piccolos.
Anyway, Dragon Ball isn't nowhere violent as is Ichi the Killer or Ninja Scroll, for example.

For a kids show, it's very violent (and I like that). The fact that other series are more violent than this doesn't mean anything.

Re: How violent will the new movie be?
In Japan it's a kids cartoon, whereas internationally they rated it for teens and adults.
Even that poor Sonic Unleashed in Japan was CERO-A and the western rated it as 7+. The game sucked anyway (The Werehog missions).

I don't understand this anti-violence thinking. We were watching Stallone and Schwarzenneger as kids, not Barney and friends.
And nowadays, we are mentally normal and healthy adult people

Re: How violent will the new movie be?
I'm gonna agree with Nex on this one, for a PG the anime is pretty violent, obviously not as gruesomely animated as anime aimed at the older teens and stuff, but still! And since when were PG's allowed to say bastard? xD
But, I like it at the degree of violence it is at, not too much not too little. A guy can get his arm punched OFF and the viewers don't have to grit their teeth watching his tendons snap and hearing his bones break. I think Dragon Ball moderates nicely with out it seeming ridiculous.

Re: How violent will the new movie be?
Nex Carnifex wrote:Because Dragon Ball is mostly about action, so things like blood are necessary to give an impact to the visuals and make watching it grittier and thus more entertaining. Don't give me this bullshit about "violence doesn't matter, language doesn't matter, graphics don't matter" if nothing fucking mattered I'd read the summary on Wikipedia and be done with it.
Let me give you an example, if Fullmetal Alchemist had no blood, do you think people would give as much of a shit about it as they do? The answer is no, and the reason goes beyond "FMA fans are immature children that like bloody shit", no, the level of violence is actually important in drama and action comics and animation, it taps into a primitive sense of danger, excitement, fear, and despair that we have since when you get hit really hard, blasted with deadly energy, or cut in half you bleed, that's how it is in the real world and according to the manga and anime that's how it is in the Dragon Ball world as well.
I'm just hoping this movie isn't dumbed down to appease the "fragile" minds of small children who don't need to be protected in a world where kids have access to the internet anyway. If this movie lacks the level of action of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, or even Dragon Ball Kai I will be very disappointed and worried about the future of the franchise.
Edited:
I find sentiments such as this to be just as silly as people who freak out about their being too much violence in DB/Z.
