Why does all the new awesome stuff always come out when I'm away from the computer?! Gah! Now I know how Mike feels every time news comes out after he puts up a podcast.

I'm loving, loving, LOVING this new stuff though. Drunk Gohan (Saiyaman Gohan at that), Vegeta acting all insanely happy so that Bils' doesn't kill them all, and Buu actually being the one that ticks Bils' off somehow? All of this is pure gold, I. Cannot. Wait. FOR. THIS. MOVIE.

Oob would be like 2. That could happen, it'd be quite cool too. It seems as though Oob's kind of forgotten going by the DBO time line so it's unlikely.

I don't think Toriyama's ever outright said he doesn't like Vegeta, but he did intend to kill him off, before he got popular. So you could say, initially, he didn't have big plans for him.

I wonder why Toei Animation didn't give him Super Saiyan 3 in Dragon Ball GT but skipped to Super Saiyan 4. Surely Akira Toriyama would some place in his heart to give Vegeta something special in the movie.

The only special thing Vegeta will get is the biggest ass whooping, Toriyama doesnt like him after all. So is that special?

Yeah, I guess I like Piccolo the most after all. Out of all the enemies, Piccolo Daimaō is the one I like most, and even after that I like Piccolo the most. I like Piccolo about the same as I like Goku. With Vegeta, well, I don’t like him all that much, but he was extremely helpful to have around. For the recent stuff, it was fun drawing Satan. When I first brought him out, I didn’t think that I would end up making Satan that important of a character. I thought he’d just be a one-shot character.

Satan is like that, but thinking up worthless gags is more enjoyable than doing the fight scenes. (laughs)

Anyway not to ruin your how much did Toriyama hate Vegeta fun, but I was recently reading the VizBig Manga, with all the talk about SSG, and maybe this has been talked about before, (I looked but couldn't find anything), but in this version between Vegeta going super saiyan, and fighting #19, he says "I finally surpasssed Kakarrot! I could be the true saiyan messiah!" Now in hebrew messiah means "savior", and Christ in Greek. With christ bieng the savior of the world in the christian faith and the son of GOD. This line of the manga didn't sink in until all the talk of SSG came up. With toriyama recently rereading the manga, I have two questions.

1. What did it say in the japanese version of the manga here, and did Viz just screw this line up?

2. If accurate did this or was it something else in your opinion that inspired toriyama or another writer to come up with SSG.

I basically think that quiet types are absolutely cool. I’ve thought that ever since I was a kid. Speaking of which, Tenshinhan and Trunks are like that too. They’re all just a bunch of strong silent types (laughs). Krillin’s not quiet, but I liked the sense that he was grudgingly hanging in there. At first I only intended him to be just around for a little while, so I drew him pretty shoddily, but somewhere along the line he became Goku’s best friend (laughs). Mister Satan’s the complete opposite of the strong silent type. It was fun drawing him because despite being so petty, he wasn’t really a bad character, so I like him too.

4 and 5. – Piccolo and Vegeta: A pair who never say anything unless they have to, and have a solitary feeling. They’re authentically cool.

3. – Krillin: Krillin stands against strong opponents, despite being freaked out the whole time. He’s now Goku’s #1 friend!

2. Mister Satan: Satan’s a character overflowing with human kindness and weakness. He’s loved the whole world over.

1. Son Goku: Toriyama-sensei’s #1 favorite character is Goku, of course! He’s a super warrior who’s both strong and gentle!

Typically whenever they've had SSj3 transformations, it's been advertised fairly early on. Likely as a hype-building thing. Raging Blast, Heroes, etc.

I know these are both video games, but my point still stands that if they had SSj3 Vegeta in the film, I'm sure they'd be using that as hype fuel already.

Hasn't Toriyama said that he doesn't really care much for Vegeta? Or is that another one of those rumors that has gained far too much momentum?

It's probably a fandom rumor far as I know. I always wanted Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta before the games existed because if Goku and Gotenks can do it, so can he.

Can't remember the exact Japanese line, but he definitely didn't say "messiah" or anything equivalent. It's noted in the relevant MRA episode.

Vegeta casts aside his pride and tries to liven up the place in order to put Birusu, who crashed the party, in a good mood. Even surreal Toriyama gags, such as the top-secret scene of a drunken Great Saiyaman (Gohan), have been incorporated at every turn!

I would say that is humiliating Vegeta.

The whole gag sounds very Dr. Slump-ish. I feel like I could see something like this happening to Senbei. The fact that it's Vegeta makes it all the more entertaining to me.

I think it's amusing how he complains (at least in SD) about how Bulma's b-day party is the same thing every year and then all of a sudden he gets something so different I'll bet he was wishing inside that it had been the same old party. XD

I wasn't really being all that serious, Goku is humiliated at the start. Atleast if Vegeta gets battered he can say he put up a better fight than SSJ3 Goku. Obviously I hope he doesn't, get battered that is.

I'm sure Vegeta will find dancing infront of people humiliating. I don't think Toriyama is humiliating Vegeta with any sort of malice, it's just a gag scene.

I think "I don't like him all that much" means that he is indifferent to him, not that he literally dislikes him.

Also, with the JSAT special and this new movie, I feel like Vegeta is sorta becoming a comic relief character like Krillin in the movies... I mean that in a good way, mind.

In the Japanese, Vegeta says:
オレは喜びにうちふるえたぜ…… やっとカカロットを超え サイヤ人の王子にもどる時が きたんだ……
"I trembled with joy... At last, the time had come for me to surpass Kakarrot and return to [my rightful place as] Prince of the Saiya..."


Also, re: the Exteme Battle Collection Q&A, the "ranking" supplied by the editors is not numbered in the book (that's Jake's addition, and IMO unwarranted), and what Toriyama himself says in the Q&A does not support Goku being his favorite. He doesn't even mention the guy! (Granted, he is asked to name five characters, and only comes up with four, but that's just the kind of person Toriyama is.)
