Future of the Franchise
While the future of the Dragonball series becomes more and more limited with each new release, there's still plenty to speculate about and lots of time with which to do it . . . and so, here are my personal predictions for the Dragon World in terms of the Ultimate Uncuts, the remaining movies, DBZ gaming and other assorted crap.
Today's DBZ episode: Gaze Into Baba's Crystal Ball! The Tomorrows That Lie Waiting
1. In the same style that Dead Zone was re-released during the "red" wave of Ultimate Uncut Special Editions, the re-dub of World's Strongest will be released sometime during the "blue" saga, and Tree of Might will appear alongside the (green?) Namek releases.
2. The FUNimation release of DBZ Movie 13 will be dubbed Dragonfist Assault, or it may contain "Tapion" in the title. (Someone suggested "Legend of Tapion".)
3. Given their current pace, the Ultimate Uncut Special Edition releases will end in the summer of 2008.
4. DBZ Movies 7, 8 and 9, as well as the GT television special, will see Toonami airtimes by the end of 2006.
5. There will be at least one more DBZ fighting game for the PS2 in 2006, but we won't see anything DBZ-related for the PS3 until 2007.
6. A version of DBZ Movie 4 with the opening animation set correctly will be very quietly re-released.
7. It may take FUNimation and Lion's Gate some time to hammer out an agreement, but the first thirteen episodes of Dragonball will see a long-anticipated domestic release by decade's end.
8. FUNimation will find a way to release the DBZ OVA, though not necessarily as a movie. Atari might be permitted to make a game out of it instead.
9. We will hear the first news of the sequel to Dragonball Z: Sagas by the end of the year, but won't see the game itself until 2007.
Agree? Disagree? Have your own predictions?

My predictions:
1. The re-dub of The World's Strongest will be released before the end of 2006.
2. After all of the UUE is released by FUNi, an American Dragon Box is announced.
3. The Dragonball Z Live Action movie will never appear. Ever.

4. ViZ, after seeing the error of it's translating ways, will release a Dragonball Perfect Edition. (Kanzenban)

[BTW, like the title.]
With original DBZ games, I predict that Wikipedia is correct and the only next game will be Sparking 2. This will be in 2007, and will be for the PlayStation 3, much like Wikipedia stated.
The Pilaf Saga and movie #1 of Dragon Ball will be published around he late 2007 to mid 2008 range.
FUNimation will not look into redoing any games, as they leave all of those options to Atari. But with role-playing games, I believe that a new company will come to an agreement and have a new version of the Dragon Ball Z RPG be published.
Due to poor reviews, the company responsible for Dragon Ball Z Sagas will not be asked to make another game for them. But, I also predict that any arcade-based Dragon Ball Z games may be translated and also brought to the states.
And I also believe that FUNimation will form a collaberation with Viz Media and Toei that will help them bring out "The best from Shonen Jump, straight to your television sets!" But I do not see this happening until [around] 2008-2010.

I always figured they would do somthing like this, nothing worthy of making a post about but that just how I figured they would do it. Makes sence if you think about it, 3 sagas 3 movies? Kinda works out.1. In the same style that Dead Zone was re-released during the "red" wave of Ultimate Uncut Special Editions, the re-dub of World's Strongest will be released sometime during the "blue" saga, and Tree of Might will appear alongside the (green?) Namek releases.
I really don't care what they name it. Movie 13 never really had a good title. Wasn't it called somthing like " Exploding Dragonfist: If Goku Can't Do It, Who Else Can!?" Wich in the end...Goku "Does it" so FUNimation will probley go with something else.2. The FUNimation release of DBZ Movie 13 will be dubbed Dragonfist Assault, or it may contain "Tapion" in the title. (Someone suggested "Legend of Tapion".)
I don't know if it'll take that long, they may pull a "Cell Games Box Set" on us and give us 2 DVD's in the starter set instead of 1? I doubt it'll stretch as far as 2008.3. Given their current pace, the Ultimate Uncut Special Edition releases will end in the summer of 2008.
Hmm, I don't see why people would care. Not to be mean or anything but honestly I think the day's of DBZ movies on Toonami are over (or at least the days of people caring)4. DBZ Movies 7, 8 and 9, as well as the GT television special, will see Toonami airtimes by the end of 2006.
Well Atari knows it has a good thing with the DBZ name and I suppose they will try and put out at least one more game if they can sqweeze it in. Also Atari can still make a PS2 game while PS3 is out (not that it'd make a lot of sence) but they've done it before, making PS1 games while PS2 is out. I think now DBZ has proven itself as a video game draw-in so, what ever system comes out now will probley have a DBZ game.5. There will be at least one more DBZ fighting game for the PS2 in 2006, but we won't see anything DBZ-related for the PS3 until 2007.
It sure is possible, but I doubt it.6. A version of DBZ Movie 4 with the opening animation set correctly will be very quietly re-released.
Ha! Wrong! I will bet FUNimation will have those episodes by the end of '06 or early 07. Iam almost sure of it.7. It may take FUNimation and Lion's Gate some time to hammer out an agreement, but the first thirteen episodes of Dragonball will see a long-anticipated domestic release by decade's end.
Well the way people are talking right now, they think FUNimation is "milking" DBZ. I hate to say that though, I mean it's an obvious money maker so of course there going to try and find every media they can possibly dub and release under the FUNimation name. I'am not saying that's a bad thing, it gives us the fans a lot more of a choice of what we like, what we don't, what we will buy, and what we will just ridicule on Amazon.com without even buying it.8. FUNimation will find a way to release the DBZ OVA, though not necessarily as a movie. Atari might be permitted to make a game out of it instead.
Bah! I doubt it. If they were smart they would just creat a new game avoiding the "Sagas" name so people don't connect the two games in there heads.9. We will hear the first news of the sequel to Dragonball Z: Sagas by the end of the year, but won't see the game itself until 2007.
Hmm, that was pretty fun, hope I didn't sound to mean.

I'm probably one of the only people waiting for Toonami to do this again. Actually, I'm thinking they're gonna milk the DBZ franchise and have some kind of DB/DBZ movie marathon like how they're doing "A Month of Myazaki" right now. However, I think that they're only gonna do that after all of the movies have been released by FUNi (including the UUEs).Tanooki Kuribo wrote:Hmm, I don't see why people would care. Now that I think of it, I really, really want Toonami to do something like this so I can be cheap and DVR the movies that weren't worthy of being bought. I don't even care if they're gonna be edited and dubbed (I think that Toonami should have them uncut, in my opinion, just because they're at a late enough time to do so... I seriously doubt that, though.) I've seen all of the movies in uncut japanese anyways (through borrowing DVDs and japanese recordings from guys I knew), except for movies 12 and 13, but I'm gonna buy those ones...

Where does Wikipedia get this crap? Aren't they only supposed to post information that had been validated, not rumors?

I am guessing with product palcement, they get it from the companies. Other things, such as a lot of stuff mentioned about the Androids, Majin Buu, and such are first written by those who know their facts... but later get edited by those who do not.desirecampbell wrote:Where does Wikipedia get this crap? CASE IN POINT: They say only Viz and FUNimation say "Android," but did not include Bandai (in the Japanese products).
Not all of it. But you tend to get the "fans" who want to believe there will be a fourth Dragon Ball series. [I say that we make an April Fools joke, and claim there will be a prequel called "Dragon Ball CS"... and have everything that is said in kanji be quotes by Chaos Saiyajin. Hence, the "CS."Chaos Saiyajin wrote:Everyone knows that the Dragonball information on Wikipedia is terrible. I had to take out "Super Saiyan 5 is real" articles three times in one week.

But, besides that, I have found very few contradictions and questionable comments in Wikipedia.
And also, on the subject, I want to add this...
*reads his crystal ball*
Atari will finally put out Dragon Ball Z: Legends, as the last of the PS one games. Plus, they will reissue UB 22 under the Atari label [adding value to the original printings].

Anyway, all Wikipedia's Dragonball section is a bunch of dubbies posting crap without the backing of the original version or knowing what they are doing. (Of course, I'm not talking about the people who actually fix it here, so no one get offended.

Need I bring up the Freeza Drag Queen Incident?

You mean one of the Seven Endless said that (read up on Neil Gaiman's work for that reference)? Kidding.Chaos Saiyajin wrote:That second quote is desire's, not mine.

But anyway, I would have said "subbies" because of the fact that they only reference both FUNimation and Viz for using the term "Android" for 17 and 18. And they also excluded Bandai, since they have used the term in a few Japanese games and products, including Sparking (and I have yet find the Japense Budokai 2 and 3 sites).
And about that incident. A few years back, Planet Namek (or was it EX?) noted that the Greek version was going to have Freeza be a woman, even though he is a dude. Either that, or the fact that either site stated that some of the dubbed scripting sounded like gay porn... which, either way... lead to that incident.

My gawd. I just pictured a movie called "To Son Goku, Thanks For Everything. Furiza Freeza"... and have it star Radditz, Nappa, Freeza, and Cell... all in drag.

Besides that, keep up the good work on it... and get that "Artificial Human" family tree done.

IMO, it'll wind up being simply "Super Dragon Fist".....like they did with Fusion Reborn, just cut off the end (which isn't really necisary anyway).2. The FUNimation release of DBZ Movie 13 will be dubbed Dragonfist Assault, or it may contain "Tapion" in the title. (Someone suggested "Legend of Tapion".)

I'm going to agree with the majority and say that the franchise has atleast one more PS2 game coming (probably Chou DBZ), and then there will be a long hiatus until XBox360/PS3 have been out for awhile, but by then DBZ is going to have lost a lot of steam and we may not have many games left to look forward to.
But no doubt we can look forward to a slew of GameBoy/PSP/DS games for the forseeable future. Joy.
Also the DBZ episodes will be released as slowly as possible, making sure that each disc is loaded down with as many unskippable ads and trailers for other Funimation properties, so that when DBZ is finished they won't sink.
English DragonBoxes? Sounds like a good idea, and not unreasonable since it would continue to generate interest (as well as money) for the series, which is almost pretty much over.
I could care less what Viz does at this point; unless IQ's rise sharpely over there and they release a completly uncut manga (art AND script) they're not getting any more of my money.

50 years from now: Funimation's license to all DB materials will have expired, some other company will pick it up, and the entire series will be re-released on ultra-definition holographic discs, with a completely redone unedited dub using the original BGM.

But seriously, I do see them continuously rereleasing the series as each new medium comes out, with the quality of the video hopefully improving along with it.
