Am I the only one left?

Post by Big Momma » Tue Mar 28, 2006 6:55 pm

I feel like I am the only one who wants a DBZ live action film, and the only one who still hasn't lost hope. Am I alone? And does anyone have any new info?

I've never had any hope of seeing a good live action DragonBall movie - so I'm actuallt glad there's no info of development.

After having watched G-Saviour(the live-action Gundam movie), my feelings on a live-action Dragonball movie is a big fat NO!

Beside, isn't there already a live-action Dragonball film, technically speaking? :P

:P Nah. I think DBZ is where it should be. On television and on my bookshelf and that's all.

I don't have much hope for there being a GOOD, BELIEVABLE live-action DBZ movie, but if it's any comfort to you, I have a friend (yeah, I know, it sounds incredibly rumor-ish) who works for a video game developing company, and he told me that they get info on upcoming movies WAY ahead of time so that they're given enough time to create the game; and he said that a live action DBZ film was indeed in progress to be released sometime during 2006, or in otherwords, this year. He didn't give me any details on it, though... I suppose he'd have to keep it hush-hush in order to retain his job.
However, this was well over a year ago when he said so, so I'm not sure what the latest news is on that.

DBZ movie rumour's been around for about ten years. It got spread around by a 'poster' back about 3 years, (which my sister had shown me 4 years beforehand, and I swear I have photographic memory) That seems to be the biggest 'evidence' for its' existance, so... yeah I can understand why people don't believe it.

However, given the current movie trends of Comic-book heroes, who knows? It COULD happen.

It would be cool, although the fight scenes and big hair spell out a big frikin' "corny".

Hopefuly, aspects like those (especially the hair; SSj3, anyone? ) would be toned down. If the DragonBall movie(s) were to be both faithful to the material and realistic; then it'd be decent.

Oh and b.t.w., as far as I know, there's a DragonBall script floating around in the Hollywood pond, waiting for a director to bite. Supposedly has Piccolo as the main villian. Interesting.

Oh, I'm sorry, I totally forgot!! This comes from the booklet included in the recent CD release, the DragonBall BGM Collection:

Image

The part I highlighted in red says, roughly:

"...what with plans in Hollywood underway for a live-action movie, 'DragonBall' continues to offer a fresh topic [of conversation] as a creation currently in the making."

Proof enough for ya?

Proof enough that a DBZ movie was being considered perhaps, maybe some preliminary work was done to present to the studio for approval. But any plans are long since dead. We've been hearing rumors of a DBZ movie for years with no official announcement or details of any kind, other than to refute rumors.

If you need a live-action DBZ fix for the time being pop in "The Matrix Revolutions"! The final Neo vs. Smith battle is what I'd hope a live-action Dragonball Z movie to be like!

If handeled correctly I'd be all for it! It could end up being as badass as the X-Men movies. But I have this nagging feeling they won't take the franchise seriously...

-EDIT- Deus: I think this might be like the Neon Genesis Evangelion live-action movie: coming slowly...very slowly...

I would be all up for one but it would have to be done who knows what they are dealing with. I would defiantly want a crack at it if I ever make a name for myself in the big leagues. I'm aspiring to get in the film-industry one day (Loose proposition to make I know). I won't go into detail about how I would direct it as I already have on another thread but recent movies have shown that it is possible for a DBZ movie to be feasible. Matrix Revolutions is one example although it can still be better. The best in my mind would be Kung Fu Hustle. Just tone down the comedy and bring up the energy blasts with a bigger budget and you got yourself the Ultimate Film.
Of course I would be Goku in a perfect world

Well, there're movies like Matrix Revolutions, Star Wars Episode III, ect. that show that with computer technology as it is today, a real live-action DBZ movie could be done. The problem would be making it a faithful adaptation of the anime and/or manga. With movies like Star Wars RotS and the most recent Harry Potter, I'm convinced it'd probably be a 75% Blue/Green screen movie. But yeah, even TV shows are showing that a live-action movie is very possible (cough Smallville cough). I would sure as hell see it. Who knows if a new one will ever be seriously made.

Frankly I'd rather not see a live action DBZ movie. Sure, one as good as the X-Men and Spider-Man movie would be great, but if it's anything like say the Daredevil and/or Fantastic Four movie it could really badly damage DBZ's image and frankly I'd rather have no movie than the latter.

Actually, it's movies like X-Men and Spider-Man that make me dread a live action DBZ.

Mary Jane lives next door? Webs come out his wrists? Where's Gwen Stacey? Mary Jane's going out with JJ's son?

Wolverine and Sabertooth don't know each other? Magneto's a frail old man? Mistique doesn't recognise Nightcrawler?

I just can't take it.

I keep picturing a DBZ movie with Gohan meeting a 5 year-old Videl.... sigh.

Well I don't mind changes in movie adaptations from comics. It keeps it fresh and can give new stories to it.
I mean, why would you wanna pay for the exact same thing of what you already know?

Film-making would be a great industry to get into. It's certainly how I would be able to express myself the best way. And as an avid DBZ fan, it would be unbelievably dream-come-true to direct the live-action film.

That's the problem with recent movies. They put more into the special effects than concentrating on making the story true to the original.
And speaking of Smallville, just imagine what it would be like if they took that direction for the DBZ movie! Goku would be learning of his heritage as a Saiyan little by little through his teen years...

I don't mind minor changes like them myself. I'm still a huge Spidey fan but I just shrug those changes off. Besides, Gwen will be in movie 3.

They aren't minor. Spidey 'quits' in movie 2. Why? Ben died, and MJ got captured... once? What a cry baby.

In the original story, Gwen Stacey is Pete's real girlfriend. He loves her and she reciprocates. That's a huge emotional bond. Then the Green Goblin kidnaps her, and she ends up dieing falling off the bridge. Pete has failed. The woman he loved has died, all because he's Spiderman. That's a huge emotional blow. Even after that, he doesn't quit.

In the movie he's late for pseudo-dates with MJ. Big deal, suck it up Spidey.
