All right, here we go. Really rough job... mostly just put in the names where appropriate, since the rest of it is a typical visual layout.

Image

This only shows the characters that actually appeared in the manga; the East, West, & Dai Kaio appeared only in filler & movies; the West & North Kaioshin only appeared in filler, as well.

According to this chart, it appears all of the Kaioshin are collectively responsible for all of the Kaio. More accurately, Dai Kaio answers to the Kaioshin as a group.

There doesn't appear to be a one-to-one ratio for Kaio-to-Kaioshin. The thick-dotted line shows a subordinate/helper relationship (Kibito to the Kaioshin; Mr. Popo to Kami; Bubbles to North Kaio).

The trickle-down from the Kaio makes sense. Our North Kaio is specifically responsible for Earth's Kami, as well as anyone else in the Northern Galaxy. For a comparison, Paikuhan came from the Southern Galaxy, and therefore fought for the Southern Kaio.

Enma's off in his own little area, since he's somewhat separate from the rest of them in what his other-wordly job is. And Karin... well... he's just a cat from Earth :P.

What we have here are two species, the Kaios and the Kaioshins.

Dai Kaioshin rules over the Kaioshin who rule over all the Kaios. Dai Kaio rules over the Kaios who rule over the four quarters of the universe. It's not clear if the Kaioshins watch over the mortal realm or if they even watch over the Kaios.

Here's a handy reference picture.

Oh, I get it now, thanks.

Also, I haven't seen most of this in the manga, but since the Afterworld Tournament was filler, was the whole deal with the 4 Kais and the Grand Kai made a lot more prevalent in the anime only? Same thing applies to East Surpreme Kai's explanation of how Kid Buu went around killing them all, that was in the anime only as well, wasn't it?
Yeah, those are from filler, technically. However, I'm pretty sure that the stuff in those episodes aren't contradicted by any other filler or canon. That and those filler episodes are pretty good explanations for the kaio, kaioshin, etc.

VegettoEX, you must retain your mystery; I like to think of you as King Kai, the "god". With whiskers, of course.
As for Meri's list, I have no objection that Goku is number one. Why? If Gohan wasn't a Saiyan, he'd be dead ages ago (remember the classic baby carriage incident, with the tree?). I'd also like to say thanks to you guys, for keeping the Dragonball Z spirit burning within me as strongly as ever. I can't express myself with writing... If only I could be with you... Especially Meri.

Excellent podcast as always guys, I need your secret so I can create one. :P

At any rate, I feel a need to add to worst DB/Z parents ever and this shout out goes to Gohan.

He seemingly ignores pan while Goku actually gets involved. While I'm not a GT fan WHERE WAS HE when his daughter was off i9n space? Oh right, being a great scholar.

Another thing that I just thought up: you guys should have done some kind of April Fools' Day podcast ep. Of course, you would have had to record earlier, so it could get out on April 1, but a good prank takes some time and preparation to do. I suggest that you guys do one next year, since the whole "change the layout at the opening page of the website" is kinda getting cliche (I don't know how to get the accent on the 'e,' sorry). One more thing: if you do follow through with the idea, try to sound convincing, which is really hard for people who seriously can't act.

Ok, I'll stop before I think of anything else to add.

Er, huh? Pan snuck onboard the ship without anyone knowledge, launched it before anyone could boot her off, and wasn't even intended to be part of the search team. Gohan can't be held accountable for Pan in this case.

Eh, he probably didn't think there was much use in freating over it. Beside, he already knows she got some helluva tough protection, and Pan herself is helluva tough also(compared with most other beings, that is)... and Gohan didn't have any ideas that there could be other helluva nasty guys out there in the galaxy.

If my daughter stowed away on a spaceship, I'd be held responsible.
Betcha your daughter isn't helluva tougher than 99% of all other beings in the galaxy. :P

Goku the world's worst parent

Post by Gohan921 » Wed Apr 05, 2006 12:39 am

Here's something that I don't think that anybody has caught on yet. When Goku and Gohan were in the room of spirit and time, Goku was trying to get Gohan to go SSJ. He launched a Kamehameha at Gohan. What if Gohan wasn't ready for SSJ? Goku would have killed his own son. I could never do that. Gohan even said that he didn't mind dying if he become SSJ. This sure is a lot of responsiblity to put on a 8-9( I"m not sure about the exact age) year old. He then goes off on how he depends on people too much. For crying out loud, HE'S ONLY 8!!! It's because of Goku that his self esteem is so low.

I think there's something that's being overlooked here. After the ship is launched, the story focuses almost exclustivly on the GT trio, and little time is given to the Earthbound cast. Now, my memories could be faulty on this, but the next time we see Gohan is several months later, meaning whatever immediate reactions he had(panic or otherwise) took place offscreen and may have cooled down since then.

Also, who says he doesn't worry about his kid? Different people expresse different levels of concern, and as stated, we don't know how concerned he acted just after the events of episode 2.

Oh and I just realized! The little bit about Aramitama and Nigimitama is also referenced in Inuyasha. I got the information from wiki as well:

The four souls described are from the Shinto philosophy of Naobi (直霊): Aramitama (荒魂, Courage), Nigimitama (和魂, Friendship), Kushimitama (奇魂, Wisdom) and Sakimitama (幸魂, Love). When all united in one person, such as Midoriko, they unite to form a powerful balance within the soul that can be used for good or evil.

Sorry, I thought of something else :x . I was listening to your previous episode themed around trips and I remember EX talking about one of the future contests being a giveaway of movie 12. So... is this true :?:
