It's just like... a bud. ("Nosebud?") Apparently, it dissapeared once all his energy went into growing hair...

No wonder Mr. Toriyama didn't want him having one

Bleh!

Actually, if anybody had watched the anime called Chibi Maruko-chan, I noticed that the same feature applied there. For characters who didn't have a nose when facing the camera (us), the artist seemed to draw the nose anyway when drawing side views of the faces, just like Krillin's. I think I remember other anime that did the similar thing as well. Is it a habit of the artists or is it just some rule that was made without knowing?

It's still not really a nose though. I mean even though he doesn't have a nose his face couldn't possibly be completely flat could it?

Come to think of it, it might be some sort of "cheek" that it's trying to portray(But it looks WAY too centered for it to be a cheek). If that's true however, that's a pretty pointy cheek!

When I doodle more silly-looking anime representations of people I know I tend to draw EVERYONE without a nose from the face-forward view but from the side I so that "nosebud" thing. No real rule. I just kinda doodled it up as I went along and it stuck.

Yeah that's just a drawing tecnique. Frequently used for noseless characters *nod* It's more 'aesthetic'... but that and force of habbit seem to be the only reasons for it

Exactly. If I'm not mistaken, that was from the episode when Cell (finally) gets destroyed. In one of the podcasts, the gang talks about how there are different (I guess you could call them) illustrators that draw the pictures for the show. Since that was clearly one of the more important episodes, (and I watched that ep myself) it makes sense that the better illustrators were taken. Of course, I'm sure that all of the other illustrators do the same thing in (for lack of a better word) nose-handling.
Long story short, "Yeah, that's a nose." Same thing for the discussion about telling SSJ and SSJ2 apart: it's kinda hard to tell, since (I'm pretty sure) the same "A-Team" illustrators who did the Krillin pic at the beginning of this topic do a really good job of drawing SSJ(1), this making it even harder to distinguish the two apart. But I digress...

Awww man, now if Kuririn ever encounters Bacterian again, he won't have his lack of a nose as defense against the smell!

BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.

Hey, this reminds me, when Krillin fights Jackie Chun in DragonBall, he shoots boogers or something at him. But where are they coming from?
Then again, I've seen some translations call it boogers, while others call it spit.

Or you could go 50/50 and call it mucas...
Actually it reminds me of that Dr Slump gag.
"ARGGGG"
"What's the matter anything wrong?!"
" Arale's got no nostrils!!"
" Neither have you this is a MANGA!"
" Wow really guess I don't have to worry about snot.."

Well, in the Pic he does look battle damaged. Maybe a busted lip?

I think Kuririn does actually have a nose, it's just very, very small. You never see the nostrills either, but most shots which shows a characters face from below rarely shows nostrills anyway. Unless it's a character with an obvious nose like Cyborg 16, even Goku's and Vegeta's and that have small noses.
I mean how would someone live without a nose, even though it's just a cartoon, and since there is no explanation for Tenshinhan's 3rd eye it's just to add some originality to the characters.
Is there ever and reference in the manga or anime about Kuririn's nose?
Kuririns 6 dots dissapearing is unknown too, and why his eyes never have white inside like the others, although in certain coloured versions of the manga and some anime shots feature Kuririn with white eyes, but mostly, like in that screenshot his eye's insisde is the same colour as his skin.
I just think since Toriyama was going to make a normal human have powers like flying and using Ki attacks he wanted people to think, 'well he is wierd he ain't got a nose' so people would think he's a different race, but after DB where SaiayaJin is introduced, many things are like 'whatever, who cares'. Since it is later revealed that even humans like Videl can use Ki to fly and stuff it's just something that people don't worry about.

Well, he beats Bacterian because he doesn't have a nose, yet he smells the diamonds Bulma gives him (and Kame-Sen'nin makes his nose bleed at one point). Hmm...

Kuririn sniffs the Daimond saying that it smells funny or something but then Bulma reminds him that he doesn't have a nose.

Don't forget that Krillin also snorts boogers at Jackie Chun! How does one do that without a nose?
edit: just figured out that leotaku posted the same thing. sorry >_>
