Odd thing about Roshi

Post by the_abberration » Tue Apr 11, 2006 12:30 pm

Just thinking how odd it was that Roshi never learned how to fly. I know he was aware of the art when he saw Tenshinhan use it. He couldn't fly Kinto'un when his thoughts became inpure (if ever). And baby Gamera made him puke after using it.

So what would make him opt to use turtle (or plane) as a means of transportation?

Any thoughts?

Well, Goku couldn't fly until the battle against Piccolo. It seemed like it was a novelty thing in the dragonball. Only a handfull of charaters could fly back then. Roshi probably just never picked it up because he was too old.

Back then, Levitation was quite a feat. Think about how difficult it was for even Tenshinhan, whom was significantly stronger than Muten-Roshi, to use it...they didn't zip around a whole lot.

Of course, Videl kinda rips a great big (plot)hole in that one, so nevermind.

I don't think Tenshinhan was stronger than Roshi. During their battle they were even the entire time up til Roshi gave up. Even Tenshinhan believed Roshi was his equal.

It comes of no suprise to me since the bukujutsu technique was that of Tsuru Sennin, who was Muten Roshi's rival. I doubt Roshi would want to use one of his rival's techniques.

This brings up an excellent point. Tsuru's pupils were the only ones that could do it up until Goku pulled it off. And we all know that Goku only has to see something done before he can use it himself. Perhaps if you are not taught, it's not something you can just pick up.

Actually, Kuririn displayed the technique before Goku did.

Perhaps not "stronger" so much as "hardly even began to show how many incredible techniques he had in reserve". Though, I'll re-read the entire fight because I did have the impression that Ten was superior for some reason or another, and I usually don't mix details up.

Roshi admitted that Tenshinhan would have won the fight and Ten hadn't gone all out either. Chaozu told Tsuru-Sennin that Tenshinhan was finally go all out and this was during his fight with Goku.

Kuririn may have been the first to demonstrate the technique but Goku could have learned it first. I believe flying was Goku's hidden trick and didn't need to fly during his match with Piccolo Jr.

There's only one logical explanation to this: "it- it's a trick!"

 Go Hercule!

I think the reason why Roshi never learned to fly it was because by the time everyone learned to do it, he didn't fight anymore. So it would be useless to make him fly, since he always stayed home.

Yes, and go Hercule!

Why would Roshi need to fly when all of the ladies are on ground level?

Uh, if memory serves me right, she had trouble keeping up with even Goten when it came to flying. o_o She was even having difficulty keeping up with Gohan and Kibit as they were joining the others.

My point was that Videl, whom is obviously much weaker than Muten-Roshi, learned how to fly better than the likes of most (if not all) of the Dragonball-era characters.

Pretty much because no one in the Dragon Ball era was as skilled at Ki control as everyone is in Z and GT. :P

Why is it 'obvious' that she's weaker than Roshi? She's obviously weaker than most of the 'Z gang' but she might be pretty strong. How strong do you need to be to fly? Goten was a SSj and couldn't fly. It seems like it just takes training, which she received, and even then she's not as good as Goten.
I don't think it's a stretch to think she could learn how to fly.
