The Big DBZ Sites

Post by Remix » Mon Apr 17, 2006 2:47 pm

It makes me feel so sad when I search for DBZ websites every once in while to find that none of the major players from the good old days are around.

Thank god this place is still around.

Let's look back on the good times when we didn't know much about Dragonball Z and had Planet Namek and other greats to help us.

I've actually sent in a question to Mike about talking about how the 'Dragonball Internet scene' has changed over the years. I remember there being countless sites, but there's fewer sites everyday. A few years ago I could rattle off a dozen or more sites I'd check every other day - now I'm hard pressed to find anything outside of DaizEX or Kanzentai.

And remember kids, it's "the Internet" not "the internet".

DaBlackGoku is still around, but the webmaster should really be ashamed.

He's done absolutely nothing with it. If he's moved on with life, I think he should let the site move on as well. The makers Planet Namek were wise to do this although it was painful to see the site die.

Whenever I want to be reminded of old times, I take a look around Temple O' Trunks.

Pojo is still around, that's a pretty good site. Of course, that was my first DBZ site I went to.

Dragonball Arena is also pretty good, and they have LOTS of audio-less clips that are great for music videos.

Dragonball Unlimited just shut down for good earlier this month after some years, and I'm told that Dranet.com is just an archive site now . . . and while I suppose they aren't quite legendary, it's still sad to see more sites dwindle into nothingness.

The first site I really tripped over was the Pojo page, which I used to visit every day many moons ago, but it feels like I've seen everything there a few hundred times by now and I haven't bothered with it for ages. DB/Z/GT Legacy I'll still check in on now and then, which was still updating when last I looked.

I think some sort of alliance between great DBZ communities should be formed to start some originality in the Dragonball Z world. Just about all DBZ websites out there are full of detailed yet repetitive info about the series that we already know. Those die out. The only sites people want to look at are the ones with pirated episodes and ROMs. Those die out eventually as well.

Ultimately, none have much of a chance at continuity.

Why do you think so many Star Wars communities are still alive? Simple.

They usually have pretty solid content, but most of all, they constantly have something new. Fan Films, Fan SFX, and other things of the sort.

Why not bring DBZ to such a level of greatness?

Well the Star Wars franchise is still going strong, apart from the fan stuff, there are novels constantly published, on going comics, new toys, games and new films and a tv series is said to be in the works aside the ones that are already showing. So Star Wars has it easier.

There are not many new things for Dragonball apart from the odd short animations and glossy DVD's and new games. It's the fans that are making DBZ go on by milking it to the very last drop.

Oh boy, that website hasn't updated since 4/30/2005. :(

But, seriously. The idea I came up with should really be given a shot at.

Why, is that bad? Are audio-less clips considered bootlegging?

There are still a bunch of Dragon Ball Z sites that are the 'repetive kind' as Remix states, but most of 'em are in web rings and such. The few good ones have also converted to Naruto and Bleach fan sites.

And you know how to tell a difference between a content-solid site (DaizEX and Kanzentai) and one of those crap ones? Just see if they are updating about Dragon Ball news itself, and not news updates talking about the site.

DBZWarriors.com is still alive and kicking, same goes for their forum as well. Same goes for DBZSC.com, though it starts like its finally dying out...

The only Dragon Ball sites I visit on a daily basis are Daizex and Kanzentai. There really aren't any other sites that can compare.

True. I don't really bother factually searching for any other sites, since I have pretty much everything I can think of there (except for stuff like episode names, ep numberings, etc. but that's what Wikipedia is for).

Like many of you here, Pojo was the first DBZ site I found that was worthwhile. However, after re-visiting it, I noticed that it fails in comparison to daizEX and kenzentai :D.

Daizenshuu EX, Dragonball Arena, and a few japanese db sites are the only info sites I visit now, though I remember even a few years ago there used to be almost a dozen I watched frequently that no longer exist.
On hiatus.

There still are quite a few dutch DBZ fansites, even though DBZ stopped airing here quite some years ago. But they're not like Daizenshuu or something. I even own one myself but it isn't that popular anymore, and I neglect the english section. ^^; But yeah, there aren't as much DBZ anymore. Too bad.

Maybe one of these days, I'll try to respark some internet Dragonball interest for DBZ fans. If anybody would like to help, then they can jump aboard.

I remember going to this one site all the time. I think it was called MajinPlanet, or something like that. It was real good source for pics, screen caps, multimedia, and info on the series. I haven't even bothered trying to find it lately. I don't even know if they're still up. Oh, and there's also the DB-Unlimited site too, which I also used to visit quite often.
