Basically I registered in this form so I could ask you all this question. What would you say, in all 291 episodes of Dragonball Z, was the very best episode ever? The reason I ask is because I've been having my own private DBZ marathon these past few months (about 4-6 episodes a day) and I just got to ep 187 (japanese) - where SSJ2 Gohan shoots the Kamehameha blast against Cell's, vaporizing his arm and leg. I think the animation, storyline, plot development, and just overall ass-kickingness that happened in this ep is bar-none, the best in the series' history...if only all the eps were as good as this one...
Best. Episode. Ever.

Best. Episode. Ever.
Hey everyone~! First post.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Yeah. It really doesn't get much better.tarsonis wrote:184. Android 16's speech and Gohan going SSJ2. 'Nuff said.

I'm not sure of the number, but the one where Freeza and King Cold come to Earth...everyone's all pessimistic, even Vegeta says "This is the end of the Earth," then suddenly this kid shows up from nowhere, goes Super Saiyan, and slices Freeza in two, doing in 1 episode (2 if you count the start of the next) what took Goku approximately 824.
Perfect shock/mystery set-up.

Dammit, tarsonis and desiré took mine...
I guess I'll have to do a backup. My second *growls at tarsons and desiré* favorite episode would have to be the episode after Gohan transforms.
That look in his eyes when he kills the Cell Jrs (causing Cell to shit out another one only to have it killed too.
) is just really creepy/scary/poo-inducing.
EX (or anyone else for that matter), if you happen to have a screenshot of that scene right when Gohan has that look, could you post it?

The episode where Goku and Vegeta intiate thier first conflict. Goku stands on the rock formation, hair blowing in the wind, and defies Vegeta. Goku refuses the offer to join Vegeta and leaps forward to attack. Remembering the first time I saw that, everything had been leading up to that fight and you knew it was going to happen. The anticipation and tenseness you felt was all waiting to see how things were going to turn out. I think that was the best episode. Everything else in the series was in one form or another, a repeat of sorts of something that had already happened.
I'm currently watching DragonBall now, and I will move on to Z on my dvds pretty soon, and rewatch the entire Z series again. And I'll force myself to go through with GT *sigh.
Anyways, I just thought I'd mention that, because probably after that whole ordeal, my opinion will change, but at the moment, I love the episode where Vegeta faces off against Perfect Cell, and unleashes the Final Flash. My god that was awesome *dies.

Is that the look you're referring to?
As far as ep 184 goes, yeah there's a lot of great things in that ep, but going back and comparing it to 187, it's a much better episode. I loved in 185 when Gohan just completely annhiliates the Cell Jrs. in one hit, but I still think 187 has a better overall storyline and plot development. Incredible action sequences, great animation, and the ep really doesn't mess around or waste time.

Well, I am a Trunks fan so I love the episode titled "Free The Future" when Trunks goes back to his time & kicks those Androids asses & then Cell, awesome moments.
Vegito: What do you call a Goku & a Vegeta? Gogeta sounds nice.

From a very similar thread I posted at a long while ago.
Conan the SSJ wrote:Without a doubt, for me, the final episode of DragonBall GT. It just brought the entire anime trilogy series in such a full circle, especially for a guy like me whom views GT in the anime canon. Goku and Shenron's final departure from the "present timeframe" was so emotional for me, the music in the Japanese version can literally water my eyes, it certainly helped that Goku just bid a proper farewell to all of his best friends in true Goku fashion. Then there's the final 8 minutes, taking place 100 years later and following the events in the Goku Jr. special, something that made me love this scene all the more is actually something I figured out not that long ago regarding original DB. In the "Wedding" mini-saga, where Goku and Chichi meet Grandpa Gohan and the Other World queen, Anine, we're told that due to the Spirit furnace, a spirit is allowed to return to the physical plane a century following his passing or during a special occasion.
My interpretation of Goku's final departure in GT actually relates to that long forgotten episode, as Goku not only appears a 100 years following his final departure to visit Goku Jr. (the special), but also attended his descendant's first real battle at the Tenkaichi Budokai (special occasion if I ever knew one). All this notwithstanding, still can't bring tears to my eyes as much as the final 4 minute stroll Goku makes after Pan misses him. The DAN DAN theme being played in its entirety, Goku remembering every major event occurring in his life time, then leaving us all on the Nimbus for one final farewell. 110% confirmed, GT episode 64 is the absolute best episode in my book.

They used one of their weakest animation teams on that episode. Everyone's faces look sqiushed and the shading/detail are very minimal compared to other DBZ episodes. Not to mention some of the movements were very choppy.Great Saiyaman wrote:I found the animation in the episode to be fun, what did you think was wrong with it?
I still thoroughly love and enjoy the episode due to it's story, music, and the voice acting, but the animation just wasn't the best. No big deal, I was just being an art snob.

Back on-topic, my favorite episode would have to be the same as Conan The SSJ, ep. 64 of GT. I don't consider it canon, but I loved the emotional impact this episode has on me. It was a much better ending that DB/DBZ, everything came full circle, the music, the animation, and the look back at the entire trilogy. It was the first DB anything to make me cry. It was that emotional.
So yes, my pick is GT ep. 64 as well. Conan summed it up the best, I think.

I don't feel that the faces looked squished...but I don't know what shading really is, so I wouldn't know what that is.theoriginalbilis wrote:They used one of their weakest animation teams on that episode. Well... I would say the ones you guys said, but I don't wanna sound redundant. So, mine would be Vegeta's respect, when Vegeta does that whole "You are Number One!" speech in his head and it does all of those flashbacks from previous sagas.
