Captain Ginyu's dub

Post by DaemonCorps » Fri Apr 28, 2006 7:41 pm

I remember in the old FUNi dub of the Namek Saga, Ginyu was talking to Goku about how him and the rest of his group had special conditions. Not to sound stupid, but I thought that he actually had umm... special conditions. If you really think about it, that could make sense. Ginyu, for example, has a bunch of veins all over his head-- you don't really know if his entire race is like that or not.

Now with all of that stuff that I've persuaded myself into believing, I came to the conslusion that the Ginyu Force was an entire team of guys suffering from some sort of deformity that caused them to be shunned from their society and later accepted by Freeza to do his bidding. My question is: is this true, or am I looking at this too literally?

Of course, some could say that Ginyu was just talking about how much more powerful he thought his team was in comparison to others.

This has just been something that's really been in my head for some time that I want to get out for discussion/answering.

I'm pretty sure he meant that he and his team rose above the rest of their races, and therefore, were taken in by Freeza. I mean, I don't think Freeza's the kind of guy who takes in people like that because they look funny, but rather have an elite team of super incredible guys (heh).

In the dub I saw (was Ocean still doing it then?) he very clearly said they were all "mutants".

Ginyu mentioned that everyone on the team was a "mutant", a member of their race who had developed unusually powerful or talented. Since he uses the term mutant it may imply that they are not a very good representative of their individual races physically. (that and being killers too.)

Yeah, that's the quote I was referring to (and to desire's post, too)! I knew it was something like they weren't like their race in some way! It sure smells like that was just a dub thing, though. Nevertheless, it's a pretty interesting twist.

Nope, the "mutant" comment by Ginyu is cannon. Just by sheer odds even Funimation could translate something properly once in awhile, without cutting anything out our making things up.

In the Greek dub, Ginew also stated the mutant fact. I always thought the dubbie actors made that comment to make the Ginew Force "sound" like X-Men, but I never thought it was actually cannon.
"Destiny"... people claim by force what they desire, wreak havoc upon others in order to acquire it... and they call it "destiny".

Ah, so it is canon (only two 'n's, guys)! Well then... interesting... It kinda reminds me of how Zabuza took Haku in in Naruto, except DBZ came first.

(imagines Freeza picking the Ginyu force off the streets during winter)

Just to emphazise this point:

Aside from that, I didn't know the Ginyu Force were mutants. I guess that explains Ginyu's head, though. Of course I always just assumed he looked like that because he was, well, an alien!

Thanks for clarifying Roshi!

I can't help but read this post as utmost sarcasm. Which is okay, because it makes it all the funnier.

But yeah, the cannon vs canon thing is pretty much widespread throughout the interweb. But that'd off topic.

It's interesting to know that characteristics like Gurdo's extra eyes or Butta's scaliness or Jheese's mullet may very well not be widespread throughout their respective species. Of course the mutant thing could also explain the extra strength, Butta's speed, Gurdo's time stopping ability and whatnot. Well, maybe it doesn't quite explain stopping time, but let's use X-Men logic and say that it does. It's not like DB logic is much more, well, logical.

While I enjoy considering myself a sarcasm beast, in this case, I wasn't. Honestly, such a clarification was useful.

Looking at that first post, something immediately sprang into my head...

"Spasticus autisticus"
Censors didn't know what the hell they were doing...

Sorry, what's this about the Ginyu Force? Mutants or just lucky stand-outs (AKA camp)?

I guess you guys forgot that the purple body may not have been Ginyu's at all, because remember he has the power to steal bodies and his body may have been destroyed in battle and he may have hung on to this purple one scince then.

Hey, I kinda like DaemonCorps theory that the Ginyu Force is deformed.

I'd always assumed that, by "special", Ginyu meant he and his team were retarded. :D And I always thought that being transformed into a frog was very apropriate for a retarded, super-powered psychopath!

But hey, just for you, from now on... I too will believe that the Ginyu Force are poor, deformed aliens, shunned from society and later accepted by Freeza to do his bidding. I mean, why not?

Well, it would work for a good filler ep, too, if DBZ were ever redone (but that's on another topic thred).
