AMV Help

Post by Cyberman » Thu May 11, 2006 1:43 am

I'm making a Kryptonite video that is a tribute to Goku. I want to have a scene where it shows Goku walking a long road or something when the lyrics go "I took a walk around the world to ease my troubled mind." I can't think of any scenes.

Please help!

Snake Way (the road Goku ran down to meet King Kai), maybe?

One of the best things about making an AMV is that you're combining two things that were never intended to go together in the first place, and you're creating something new.

However, if you (throughout an entire video) do nothing but literally match the spoken lines to the visual footage, there's a good chance that you're going to end up with something completely incoherent. Rememer, they weren't meant to go together... you need to do something to bridge that gap and make it look like they WERE meant to go together.

That said, perhaps a scene of Goku actually walking around *DOES* work extremely well. On the other hand, let me just toss the idea out there that perhaps there's something *else* that works on a metaphorical level that also matches up with the lyrics. Perhaps a long scene of him gazing off into the distance, alone? Something along those lines?

Have fun!

Snake Way...hmm, I never thought of that.

On the scene with Goku gazing off in the distance, Goku's never struck me as one to go into deep thought. I can't think of any scenes off the top of my head.

(Goku staring contemplatively off into the sunset)

"...Wow. Nice sunset."

... 10 minutes pass...

"...That cloud looks like a bunny."

...Another 10 minutes...

"...I'm hungry."

Twenty minutes before Goku gets hungry again? I don't think so.

There we go

Anyway, I was just going to say the same thing as Mike, it might work well to show Goku literally "walking a lonely road", but it might be better to just show some serious scenes where he's alone. Like training on his way to Namek, for instance.

Well, who says he wasn't hungry to begin with? Maybe he just didn't say so 'till then.

:P

Also, yes, I agree on the (actual) topic of the thread; matching lyrics with footage doesn't have to be exact and literal. It quite often works better if it isn't.

Sometimes, I'll just focus on one word of the lyrics, especially if it seems to carry some weight. For some reason, whenever I see those lyrics, I always picture Goku's past battles, the deaths of those he cares about, hence the 'troubled mind.'
We truly begin to live when we find something we're willing to die for

Yeah, I could show a brief scene of Goku, then some quick flashbacks of battles that have been tough on him(Freeza, Buu, Vegeta, etc)
