Android 17

Post by majinrod153 » Sun May 14, 2006 7:48 pm

When did Android 17 come back? I noticed that he had his hands raised for the spirit bomb that Goku was going to throw at Buu.

Also, why would he want to help Goku?

Also, since he's an android, how can he give Goku energy?

1) He was wished back along with all of Cell's other victims, after the Cell Games.

2) Because he never really cared either way. He and 18's programmed mission was to kill Goku, true, but once Goku became, obviously, far too strong too either of them to take on, it would seem they, shrugged, abandoned that, and just took on civilian lives. In short, it was never personal.

3) I believe that, while his battle "ki" is artificial, he still has a basic, "human lifeforce" amount of natural ki, which would be what he donated to the Genki Dama.

Yay! I think I just spoked smart things!

Well 18 and 17 are technically alive and human so they would be revived by the dragonballs and do have ki to offer, that just doesn't seem to be their main power source.

As for why he would want to help Gokuh. I think he would know better than most that Gokuh is in the business of saving the earth, therefore, since 17 lives on the earth I don't think he'd mind contributing some energy to a former enemy to save his own behind.

I think these guys are trying to justify #17's ki and avoiding the most important part...

The Genkidama takes somethings from everything. Water, flowers, animals, rocks... the sun! By the end of the series, however, it seems like they were just looking for an excuse to show several characters from Dragonball history, so made it seem like Goku was only taking ki from actual people, and for some reason they had to... uh... volunteer their energy... It was something that somewhat bothered me. Regardless, there you go.

Well y'see, there we have a bit of shintoism going which would imply that stuff like water and rocks do have er....life energy or spirit. As for the plants and animals the ki thing works for them since they're actually alive.

Also, he's a cyborg, not an android, so he can give energy just like every other person on Earth.

Yes, well, 17 was controlled or something in GT. Maybe. I think. (Help! Reliable sources!)

Not as far as I'm aware. The idea was that he was to fuse with Hell's #17, so obviously Dr. Gero contacted him to tell him as much. Obviously he liked the idea...

... come to think of it, since when could a dead Dr. Gero make contact with an Andriod still alive on Earth anyway??

They did mention in the last episode of that saga that No. 17 was being controled by Dr. Gero/Mu the whole time. Though this isn't elaborated on much. :?

He was being controlled, actually. Kuririn pointed out that he hates Dr. Gero, and he returned to normal for a brief second ("I.. resented..."), but Hell Fighter 17 contacted and rebrainwashed him.

Another question- how could he say "It's been a long time since I've heard his voice" if he never met Gokû? :P

Genki does not equal Ki. If I'm correct, all healthy beings possess an equal amount of Genki, whereas Ki is a variable.

Someone else is free to comment, just wanted to point that out ;)

It's possible that all the androids had the Z fighters voice data programmed into them as well as a means of recognition etc.... or they may have had a certain level of conciousness within Cell since he did absorb their data and began to develop their traits. Or y'know that other theory (Toriyama forgetus)

As for the genki, ki thing, while they are collecting energy for the genki dama they use those terms interchangeably. The ki in gen"ki" refers to the same ki.

Whatevah. You all know what I meant. That little, basic, standard-issue amount of living human energy.

I didn't think that 'genki' meant an actual 'thing' like 'ki'. I thought 'genki' was just 'being energetic, healthy, or spirited'. :?

Yeah, Ki basically refers to the spirit so basically if you're healthy and happy you're "genki". But as you know, in the case of martial arts energy and the spirit are very closely connected so it's pretty much the same thing.

What the hell!? I never knew that. So, after all the destruction he has caused in the alternate future, they just let him live a normal life? Now, he just doesn't deserve it. How has he managed to stop himself from harming humans? Are you sure he was wished back? Seriously, I never knew. In my opinion, he deserves to ROT IN HFIL. :D Anyway, he can't be much of a brother if he doesn't even visit #18...

I don't think Android 17 is evil. I believe he's just like his twin sister. Besides, the Androids 17 and 18 in the alternate future are different from the Androids in the series' standard timeline.
