No, because I've already devoted my DVD shelve to a different style this same year. Sure it's a cool and cheap format, but they need to release the whole series like this in at least two years so that people can enjoy their Ultamate Uncut Editions and get sick of their individual releases. It's just too soon, and that's what's going to get people angry.DaemonCorps wrote:Right. The main thing is... it's cheaper. Hey, you changed your avvy! Anyways, does the pre-order count for payment for the set, too, or do you have to pay for pre-ordering it and for the actual item?theoriginalbilis wrote:Well, I've ordered all of my Saint Seiya DVDs (legal ADV release) from CD Universe and they were in perfect condition and shipped promptly.DaemonCorps wrote: sidenote: Is cduniverse.com a trustworthy website to order it from? So, I'd say it's a great little website. At least for anime DVDs, their preorders tend to be REALLY cheap anyway.

I understand that people that have been collecting the individual disks are a little angry and feel that they've wasted money. However, at the same time, I can't believe how much negativity I'm seeing in this thread. The standard these days with anime companies is box season sets, and Funi is no different from the other ones out there. It's not such an "OMG! Box sets!?" suprise really. I really don't see why people are acting like Funi pulled something crazy unusual when, as I said, it's the standard thing for companies nowadays. I've spent plenty of money on the Funi discs over the years myself, but that doesn't mean I'm not really happy to hear of this news.

I'm with Jers. No one in this thread has any reason to be angry or feel ripped off. You all knew that a box set, cheaper than the individual releases, would come out eventually. And yet you still chose to buy those releases. If you feel ripped off, well, then you ripped yourself off.

I for one am not bitter about it, I just know that I won't be interested in it because I am still fed into the hype of the Ultamate Uncut Special Editions. I'm suprised that they are releasing another big format for the episodes when they are not done with the other one. They have been making a big deal about the Ultamite Uncut's for a long time, so it's strange that they are releasing a new big thing for the same episodes.Jerseymilk wrote:Because anime fans are never happy unless they're complaining about something.DaemonCorps wrote:Right. I think that's why people are hypothesizing about maybe the Dragonbox remastered footage becoming available. It would explain perhaps why it's happening. I know I'm hoping beyond all hope that that's what it is. >>Hero 004 wrote: I for one am not bitter about it, I just know that I won't be interested in it because I am still fed into the hype of the Ultamate Uncut Special Editions. Does this mean that the rest of the series is going to get a box set release, not just the first 2 seasons? If not, we'll be stuck with buying the old Funi box sets. I'm also concerned of possible price increases as the series goes on.
If the whole series is getting the box set treatment, this is going to be a pretty sweet deal. I can get the first one for $35.13 (£18.92). If you live in the UK, you know that's a good price considering how much DVDs cost here.

It's too soon to be asking about this, really; given that we've just found about this set yesterday.Does this mean that the rest of the series is going to get a box set release, not just the first 2 seasons? As for the comments on possible Dragonbox footage; I'm not expecting it. That way, if it's the same as the UU version, I'm not disappointed. Or if it is the Dragonbox footage, then I'll be plesently surprised. Either way, I can't lose.
Also, where is this concern about it being edited coming from? It's listed as having the Japanese audio. That alone is an indication that it's uncut(otherwise, it'd only have English audio).

The preorder price is for the entire set, the only extra money you have to pay is for shipping.DaemonCorps wrote:Hey, you changed your avvy! I seriously hope they do.Kula wrote:Does this mean that the rest of the series is going to get a box set release, not just the first 2 seasons?
EDIT: I just noticed the boxart says,"Dragonball Z: Season One" and not "Dragonball Z: Ultimate Uncut Edition - Season One". Maybe...?
Hahaha! I was tempted to buy the UUEs, since I never saw the Saiyan through Namek arc in Japanese, but I resisted, and it looks like it's payed off. More so than I'd ever expected, too. For just 50 dollars, a whole 39 episodes? Wow.
I sure hope they do this with the rest of the series. I might finally be able to get a large chunk Buu saga at a decent price, tehn. I have been collecting most of the Andoid/Cell arc throughout the last year, so that seems like a waste now if they make a new box set for it... But I'm sure people feel the same way about them buying the UUE editions seperately. Sorry to everyone who did buy the UUE's. =\

Today's DBZ Episode: FUNimation's Journey Down Snake Way! Does the Road Ever End?!
Here's some ramblings:
First off, believe me when I say I was for the argument that nothing other than the first two sagas of DBZ would see a second release, let alone that we would ever see them re-packaged into Dragonball-style boxed bets. "It'll be a cold day in hell," I thought.
I'm not so sure anymore, though.
This first box set is sure to sell well, because it's what many fans have been wanting all along; compact, saga-encompassing sets compiled onto as few discs as possible and sold for a buy-in-bulk price. And whether the inspiration is thanks to FUNimation's own brilliant intuition or has something to do with the fans who complain loudly about the episode-to-volume ratio, I'm quite sure that FUNimation has known this sort of thing all along. I daresay . . . they've been saving it.
With the Ultimate Uncut Special Editions, just about everything has now been released on DVD in an uncut format . . . so where's the money in DBZ after that? The answer comes on September 26th. With what I'm sure will be the huge success of Season One (and Season Two, since the "new" Namek episodes will certainly get a similar treatment), I can definitely see FUNimation turning an eye toward packaging the rest of the series in exactly this fashion, because there's even more money to be made further down the road. People are going to want these, and FUNimation is going to want to sell them.
Why now? They didn't sell sagas like this before because obviously there was more money to be made stretching a popular series like DBZ into the three-episode format. But with that finally out of the way . . . and with the well about to run dry . . . there's suddenly a whole new DBZ to market, and they sure as hell aren't going to ignore it, because neither will we.
And that's fairly clever. We make fun of them and their treatment of the dub a lot, but damn, FUNimation is a smart company when it comes down to it.
Do you really think they're going to just stop with two season box sets and leave the rest of the sagas untouched? I sure don't. The Ultimate Uncut Special Editions weren't the last hurrah, my friends; it was just the beginning, and from here any crazy thing is possible. What's next? A re-dub of the Ginyu saga?

Well, you make a good point, with the whole boxed sets being more expensive before because that was when DBZ was at its peak (in the US, anyways).
Of course, I must wonder whether or not if a re-release was done for the rest of the series if they'll actually be less expensive than buying the individual discs. You can buy quite a number of the FUNi DBZ releases that aren't the UUEs on amazon for $5-10 each. If you suppose that each saga FUNi has composed (with the whole Cell Saga being split into Imperfect Cell, Perfect Cell, and Cell Games) is around 20 episodes, then that means you could get entire sagas for $35 at the least.
But on the other hand, no one (and I mean no one) can resist buying nice re-releases of sagas put into fewer numbers of discs?
Personally, I'm hoping that this set is in one of them jewel DVD cases, put inside that yellow box. (Ah... the fangasm begins)

I've been thinking about the low price, and wondering if "we've been had", but the more I think about it, the more I suspect it's just a incredibly smart move by FUNi.
I'd be hesitant to plop down 100 bucks for each boxset, knowing it'd cost me a grand for the whole series, I'd probably do it, but it'd be close.
But for 50 bucks a pop? Done! No hesitation.I'm putting in a pre-order ASAP (damn you paycheck!)
Think about those that already have a bunch of UUE singles - if the box was a C-Note none of them would even look at it, but if their collection's not complete, and for 50 bucks... you never know.
