Well, I also think one of the factors is they've got a lot more on their plate in terms of licensing then they did a year or two ago...

I mean: Speed Grapher, FMP: The Second Raid, Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad, FMA TV & Movie, Kodacha, Basilisk, Moon Phase, KimiNozo (Rumbling Hearts), Samurai 7, Desert Punk, Kiddy Grade & Tenchi Muyo re-releases, Yu Yu Hakusho... it may be a factor of they're releasing all these other properties and doing DBZ in this new format, may make it easier for fans to pick it up, but also gives Funimation more leeway to release the other shows.

I dunno, just my thoughts.

I had a feeling it would be me that would have to bring this possibility up. The season boxes may be ENGLISH DUB AUDIO ONLY. It would help fit the 39 episodes on the 5 discs. I am extremely frightened that this could happen. Until I see official confirmation of Japanese audio, this possibility is going to continue to torture me. Sorry to hinder everyone with such a frightening idea...

Well, similarly, I couldn't sleep last night because I had the frightening thought that FUNi might put their original dub of the first season on the boxed set instead of the UUEs. I forced myself out of bed just to look up how far the original dub episodes reached in their first 39 episodes. To my relief, their episode 39 was somewhere in the middle of the Namek Saga, so there's no way that that's what's gonna be released, at least.

Still, your thought freaks me out even more. :x

FUNimation hasn't released English Only audio discs for Dragon Ball Z for a long time. It wouldn't make sense for them to do so for this. The episode count would be 8/8/8/8/7 for 39 episodes on five discs. FUNimation released Fruits Basket with seven episodes on two discs and their upcoming Yu Yu Hakusho re-releases will have seven on each disc. They've released discs with a large number of episodes before.

And at 25 minutes each, eight episodes on a disc comes out to about three hours and 20 minutes, not too unreasonable. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King DVD (two disc set) was about three hours and 20 minutes long and I believe it had audio commentary on it.

Right Stuf's listing for the set says it will by hybrid, meaning that it will have both the original Japanese audio and the English audio. Spanish audio may be pushing it though.

Yeah, no way the original Ocean dub is going to be on the boxset.

Funimation wants us to listen to THEIR VAS, THEIR SCRIPT, THEIR 5.1 MIXES, THEIR OPS & EDS.... etc, etc... and of course, there's money for them to make off of the Japanese track w/ Daimao's subtitles.

I also took the plunge and ordered it from CD Universe. I've already paid through paypal, so I won't be paying any more if the price goes up.

Well, being as I'm more of a dubbie than a Japanese w/ subtitles fan of Dragonball Z, I could live with just having the English track. However, I'd be really cool to have the Japanese.

Sometimes, I like the Japanese just as much or better than the dub (Movie 5, Movie 8, Movie 12, Bardock Special), but usually for the episodes, the dub is more interesting. I just can't handle complete silent when there's just so much of it.

I just got an Imperfect Cell Saga tape where in the fourth episode Cell boots up to stage 2 and tries to get 18, and it ends with Tenshinhan using Cho Kikoho on Cell. It was so painful to hear so much silence, see so much staring, and realize how little was actually going on in the episodes. Besides the Piccolo vs 17 battle, there was no reason things should have gone so slowly. In the dub, it's less noticable, because at least they have music.

well i cant say i agree with you on the whole dub preference, but to each his own. anyway, i just dont know why this hasnt been posted on Funi's DBZ website. i think something this big wouldve been told about by now (or atleast have more info on it).

A FUNimation representative has stated that the listing for the first season was posted sooner than they had planned. They should announce their plans for the season one set and the rest of the Dragon Ball Z series during the summer. My guess will be sometime during June.

"The listing came online sooner than we have our pr on the release scheduled. We'll have information on it but at a later date. I'll keep the board posted (har har, pun) on the news. Sorry for the delay with no info."

This is from the AnimeOnDVD.com forums. Lance, a representative from FUNimation, posted the reply back on May 19th.

If someone could tell me how to fix the URL so that it's not so long, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Soooo.... My Vegeta saga II artbox won't be completed? There going to stop making these single disc? So would they release "Season 2" in this kind of format as well?

I feel your pain on the artbox. All signs point to the singles ending and the entire 291 episodes of Dragon Ball Z will be released into "season" box sets. FUNimation has not publicly stated this but it appears this is the future of Dragon Ball Z.

It's speculated that the series will be released in possibly eight sets at a retail price of $49.99 each. But members here have been finding listings for the first season for as low as $15. Only time will tell what will really happen.
