Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

I am really confused.
When does this take place?
After Vegeta blows up, and after SSJ3 Goku fights fat Buu right? Well where is he in this movie? If this is after his death then why isn't Mr. Satan with Fat Buu or why is he not mentioned? Why is Vegeta unwilling to fuse, and why don't they mention previous fusion? This movie looks like a straight copy of the Buu Saga. In that, Janemba is pretty much like Buu (except for the dematerializing part ). It seemed like Gogeta made quick work of Janemba, which makes me wonder why they didn't use this against Buu.
As you can see, I'm CONFUSED!

None of the movies are ment to take place durring the Anime. They are 'side stories' if you will. They take the characters and put them into a different setting. They took everyone from the Buu saga and made a new story about it.
I'm sure someone will be able to tell you the exact episodes it premired between.
Bottom line - DragonBall movies aren't part of the Anime - so don't sweat it

"There's a site, too?!"
Here ya go, newb:
- Daizenshuu EX newbie guide (look under the Movies and TV Specials part)
- an in-depth explanations of all the official movies
As for when the movies are supposed to take place... don't think about it that much and you'll be fine. The only movie that fits perfectly into the series is DBZ Movie 9.
If you're really interested in when each movie is "supposed" to take place, then just analyze the movie for anything that would give away its "timeline," like Android 18 being on the good guys' side, or Mr. Satan being present.
But seriously... just don't think about the while timeline issue.

I don't think everybody here has seen it yet, but Movie 13 fits into the timeline rather nicely, as well.
Just as long as you don't think too hard about the ending.

So does Movie 9. Aside from the change in Trunks's hair & clothes, though there could be logical explanations for that.

Well, Trunks came back from his timeline, so it's never really specified how far into
his future he's at. Maybe he was able to find some kind of underground tailor to make him new clothes, or he went back in time and stole clothes from himself... Either way, movie 9 fits much better than other movies. I'm not so sure about movie 13, though...

I'd assumed that after he defeated Cell in his timeline, he went back to the original timeline. It's in the manga I believe as well. At that time his hair was shorter & he had the Saiya-jin armor.

Movie 13 takes place after the death of Buu, and prior to the final three episodes of DBZ where they fast-forward 10 years later.
It really isn't all that hard to figure out, as it fits in quite nicely to the story. I also remember reading some years back that Toriyama acknowledged movie 13 being canon in an interview with some magazine, though I don't remember where I read this or if the interview itself was true or not (could anyone help me out with this?).
And as for the sword that Trunks is given at the end of movie 13, another simple explanation; it's just a different sword than the one that Future Trunks has, and it is likely the one that Trunks uses in DBGT (even though DBGT is non-canon).

Why do so many "Movie Canonity" threads keep popping up? I think I'm going to go insane.

Now, trying to fit Movie 6 and 7 into the time line will make you go insane.

The most odd thing about Movie 13 is that no one bothered to inform Mr. Satan that there was a giant monster destroying the city. You'd figure that since Satan wasn't getting any attention when he was beating up on zombies in the last movie, that he'd try to get some camera attention in the next one. >_>;

You think they'd call Mr. Satan in the event of a Godzilla attack or something along those lines? I don't know if the general public has that much faith in him.
He just takes care of "weaker fighters" like Cell and Boo... though nobody remembers Boo thanks to Shen Long.

I actually think they should have hired the writers of Shin Budokai's story mode to write the script of Movie 12. Movie 12 is one of my favorites, but Shin Budokai's play on the storyline surpasses it.

Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

It's obvious that the sword story is impossible for future trunks and everyone knows it.
However I think what they were really just trying to was give a good story for the sword, regardless of timeline impossibilities. I think they just want us to assume that future Trunks has Tapion's sword regardless of how he shouldn't.

Does it? Not having played I was unaware of any changes made to the storyline.
I would like to have played it, but unfortunatly to afford a PSP you must be made of money, and sadly I am made of meat.
There is no better combination in the world than Dragonball, Cherry Pepsi, and Cheez-Its. It's a proven fact.

Same here. I just read the story transcript on GameFAQs.

I kinda thought the story in Shin Budokai was a little ridiculous, even for Dragon Ball standards. Definitely fun and entertaining but better than one of the movies? No. Well, maybe better than movies 4 and 11.
