Who is Chaozu actually? Why does he look like like a doll? Just asking.

Or, because he worked as a clown in his... youth... I guess...; or, he had an unfortunate incident with some flour mabye...

I just like to think of him as a strange white alien being thing, since he doesn't age.

Well, as semi-answered in a past podcast episode, if dogs can be rulers of nations in the DB universe, then Chaozu can be human. However, people are usually classified by their planet (Earth, Namek, etc.) in the series...

Then again, it was eventually revealed that Tenshinhan was a descendent of extraterrestrials known as "the three-eyed tribe", so Chaoz might be another "alien-in-the-closet", for all we know...

^Yeah, the French translation of the seventh Daizenshuu lists him as an alien, precisely as Olivier wrote.

(Of course Ten's third eye is based on enlightment, and more probably on Er Lang Shen, the god who fought and captured Sun Wukong)

Chaozu is based on a Chinese vampire. Well, not actually a vampire, because they don't do the vampire stuff. Hopping Corpse is a better name.

Well, going even further off topic, I've been wondering why Chaozu wasn't involved in some of the later battles, especially since the anime clearly showed him dodging Buu's blasts along with Tenshinhan. I mean, Chaotzu could've used his paralysis powers on Buu to give the other fighters the upper hand.I just think that Toriyama could've used more of him

Well, to be honest, I never liked Chaozu. I'll never know what Tenshinhan saw in him.

His only real "power" was paralysing people to get some cheap hots in.

If he can't even count to 10, then he fails at life.

Chaozu couldn't use his powers on Nappa, imagine Buu.

They went seperately to Crane and trained together. Kinda simple.

Did he ever actually try to paralyze him?
His attempt to kill Nappa by blowing himself up didn't work, sure, but I don't remember if he ever actually tried to stop his movements with his other powers. I haven't watched those episodes for years now.

He tried when Nappa was poweing up initially after they had defeated the Saibaimen but it didn't work.
