Just who in the world was the voice director for this anyways? Because if you think this is bad, just check out #18's acting during this time in the Cell Saga... :eh:
I do have a weak spot of McNeil. It's certainly not horrible but it does get far too high pitched for its own good. He's a demon powering up, not a new singer for Bon Jovi!
I can let this slide considering his mostly fantastic performance overall.
What gets me about those clips most though is at that point in the second one where Piccolo is firing an energy blast at #17. I swear he delivers that moan like HE'S the one getting shot at  !

Lots of "eh eh uh uh" moments here. And monster voices from characters like Piccolo.

Also Dodoria makes a great "HoooOOOooo!" sound as he flies around 2:21.

The Portuguese dub of Dragon Ball premiered in autumn 1995 and ran until mid 1996, with Dragon Ball Z immediately following, and lasting til mid 1998. At the same time most of the movies and specials were released on VHS (DBZ movies 12 and 13 in particular had joint theatrical displays as well), while the others only aired on TV a few years later (with a different cast). Dragon Ball GT was also initially released straight to VHS, starting in the summer of 1998 and ending in 2000.

As it stands, the entire series has seen countless reruns on cable TV since then and is still aired today, though for some unexplainable reason it was never released on DVD (aside from a terrible re-release of some of the movies that were previously available on VHS).

Oh yeah, don't they make strange real world references to stuff from Portugal or something?

Yeah, some TV shows and the like... Like I said, the only good thing about the portuguese dub is Goku's voice. Fortunately, nowadays the reruns are in japanese (with portuguese subtitles, of course).

Pretty much 90% of the performances from the Westwood Ocean dub. Here's a few comedy classics:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_OHe6GKLKY Trunks goes insane

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1f_YdxaEKo Go to 1:52 for Peter Kelamis as kid Goku

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1mQgybnMfQ And here we have Terry Klassen as Kril- sorry I mean Roshi

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEvqqeXpdgs And again as Babidi

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYd-iv9OCUc And Ocean Tien at the top of his game

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrTQ39-5P1c And of course Gohan going SS2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0j-GK4NW7M And this pretty much sums up the Westwood dub to a tee

Jesus Christ, that dub is utterly atrocious. From the cheesy Saturday Morning Cartoon music, to the B-Movie acting...bleh.

And Terry Klassen. Wow, no wonder so many people hate him.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

This is what we had to put up with in the UK for most of the series. As crazy as it seems there are a few people out there who actually like it although why they like it is beyond me. To me it makes the acting in Funi Season 3 look like Kai acting by comparison. And yes the music is terrible. Even worse when you have to watch a great amount of episodes and the same few tracks play for every scene.

Frankly, I think this is a perfect example of how the rest of the Ocean dub was so underproduced.

Normally a scream like that would be absolutely soaking in reverb and delays, but nope, not here.

I love the Westwood dub from start to finish on nothing but pure nostalgia. They suck beyond a shadow of a doubt and are about as cheap and underproduced as they come but you know what, I have no issue with sitting and watching it.

I would never recommend it to a single person nor ever consider it truly 'good' and I think that's the difference between a nostalgic fan and the Z dub defenders that live on YouTube.

I do think it's voice actors actual voices are better than anything Funimation churned out despite the acting though.
