Kaboom's Quick Character Creation Contest

Hey, there. I've been a beast with the topic-starting lately, haven't I? Anyway, onto my subject...

For my "Revised GT" fanfiction/self-amusement project I'm working on, I've decided to create an original character or two, for the sake of some of my takes on things. Problem is, I suck at making up names. Nowhere near the level of the character design people at Toei or, much less, Toriyama-sensei himself.

So I've got this character I'm trying to make up a name for, and I'm hoping to get some suggestions from the fine, creative, good-looking (I assume) members of the DaizEX board. Ready? The character is...

Pan's baby brother.

Hey, what's with that look? Honestly. I'm gonna use him for (mostly) comedic relief, and perhaps in a role vital to the mid-later story. Besides, he makes sense. (Gohan) + (Videl) + (Almost 20 years of marriage) = Only one kid? Not likely, if you ask me...

About him... well, he's a baby (2 or 3 years old at most...), so, character-wise, there's not much to work on. But... imagine Gohan as a baby. Innocent, funny, and perhaps a bit too curious for his own good. And maybe a little bit of Videl's attitude in there. And he may or may not have some Chibi Gohan-esque hidden powers, as well...

I guess the most sensible name would be "Go-something," in the Son family tradition, but, like I said, I suck at making names, and have no idea how japanese names work.

So, yeah! Any help from a japanese cultural "expert" would be greately appreciated!

EDIT: P.S. - I actually only have about a week to deal with this, before I relocate to Arizona for most of the summer, and may not have access to a computer for a while. So... the sooner the better!

How about 'Medon'?

It's a revisioning of the word 'Demon', as 'Videl' is as of 'Devil'.

'Gosan' could work as well. I've heard it means 'accident' but then again, I don't know...

Gohan Jr. would be cool. I would use the name Poten. Alludes to: Potara, Potential, Goten, Pan, Satan, and don't forget Popo!

I like Goukaihonpou ( 豪快奔放 )
It means 'big-hearted and free-spirited; daring and uninhibited'.

And he can be called 'Goukai' for short

豪快 - hearty; exciting; stirring; lively; heroic; largehearted; splendid;
奔放 - wild; uninhibited; extravagant; rampant;

At least, that's what Jim Breen tells me.

Hmmm. Well, there's Komugi (wheat), Gokoku (the 5 grains (rice, beans, wheat, etc..)), and Gosan (lunch/dinner (or miscalculation as another pointed out)).

I can think of a few others, too, but those are the best ones.

How about Hovis?

But, mabye Natasu, if you went for a name closer to Videl's.

Or, if you went with Gohan's, mabye Raisu, Bangohan, Gokoku (as Xyex pointed out) or Beikoku.

If you went with Pan's, then perhaps Kurasuto or Koukaku would be more appropriate.

Gojin sounds pretty cool too.

Whatever the name is, it should have a Go in front. It's tradition!

Doesn't that just mean "Go-Person?" ( I at least know what "jin" means) That would be universally workable I guess.

So far, I'm liking "Gosan" ("Son Gosan" has a nice ring to it...and keeps the food theme), "Gokoku" (Sounds like the personality and attitude I'm aiming for), and especially Desire's "Goukai" (Which wouldn't change in meaning if I spelled it "Gokai," right?)

The other ideas are great, too, but I'm really trying to keep with the "Go___" theme of the male Son family members.

A quick note... If you can get me the japanese characters for your names, as well (or ask someone who knows how to do so), it would help.

Well, I'm running out of days to do this, so I'm hoping to pick a winner tomorrow! And I'll start on the fanart "prize" today.

You could try "Goshin".

Quadriple pun.

Gohan. Goten. Goshin. Re-arrange the second syllables in each. *nods*

And, "shin" means "true" or "new". You could use it as part of his personality, or that he's the newest child of Gohan and Videl.

Third, "goshin" can mean "self-protection", and that applies very well to the Son family, and could be used as a character trait for later life.

And, finally,"goshin" can also mean "wrong diagnosis", so mabye he might not be a Son after all...

*insert ominous "dun-dun DUNNN!" music here.

Now decide.

Well, after much careful thought and consideration, and a deep and intricate choosing process involving little pieces of paper and a dartboard, I've picked a winner. My choice for the name is...

"Gosan," by Chaos Saiyajin.

It sounds good, keeps the food theme, and, well, I like it. It sounds cute.

As promised, Chaos Saiyajin will, within the next few days, recieve (most likely via PM), an autographed, colored, .jpeg of Pan and Gosan. I suppose I'll give Xyex a copy, too, since he confirmed the name's meaning. If either of them decide to be nice and share the picture, well they're free to do so.

For the rest'yall, I'll post some sketches sometime tomorrow.

Thanks for the input, and look for my fanfiction to take off sometime soon.

It is a very nice pic,

however (I really hope you don't mind constructive crticism!) I don't see any Videl in him. He looks like he could be Gohan's other brother.

It's a very nice drawing though and you should be very proud of it. I just offer my criticism, because where would we be without it.

Well, that's probably just because of the sketch I chose to put up. Some of my other doodles of him had him looking very much more like Videl. This one just came out the cutest...

Also, if you'll notice, his hair (which is responsible for a good half of a character's individuality in the DB world), is supposed to look like some sort of amalgam of Buu-saga Gohan and Videl's hair...
