Did Goku die at the end of GT at all?(The 100 years after)

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Did Goku die at the end of GT at all?(The 100 years after)

Post by Sasuke_Chidori » Thu Jul 06, 2006 2:14 pm

My question is, I know that all of goku's family and friends died, but did Goku die with them? Was he a spirit when he was at the Tenkaichi tournament at the end of GT? I remember he went off with shenlong and left his family(gee, what a good father XD), but did he age?

This question continues to haunt me...

I'd like to think that Shenlong made him immortal. The reason I think this is because if he died he would be able to keep his body but I’m sure he wouldn’t be allowed to roam around on earth as a ghost.

It’s been a rumor for many years that he became immortal but some say he died. Just before he left with Shenlong, Vegeta asked him, "Kakarotto are you?” which may mean, "Kakarotto are you leaving for good?" or, "Kakarotto did Shenlong make you immortal?” I guess we may never get a proper answer for this query; maybe TOEI wanted us to derive our own conclusions.

Well, first of all i just want to point out that nobody knows for sure. My own personal view of the ending is that Goku and Shenlong became one, thus making Goku immortal and giving him the power of the DragonBalls.
It is impossible to improve upon perfection.

That does seem to be what it suggests. It's nice to think that, some thousands of years later, Goku, while spending time with his dead friends and family in the afterlife, is still watching over Earth (and much of the rest of the galaxy) with both his amazing strength and dragonball abilities. "...But some new, legendary, and did we mention evil force threatens both this dimension and the next, and even Goku's SSj9 powers may not be enough..."

I was thinking that when Vegeta said "Kakorot, are you..." I was thinking he said, "Kakorot, are you...dead?" I was thinking he died when Omega Shenron shot that giant energy ball at him. But that leaves why he was still there to make the giant spirit bomb.

The problem with GT's ending is that you know something definately happened, but you don't know what it is. :? It's kind of frusterating, but fun at the same time.

I personally think that he fused with Shenlong. However, if he fused with Shenlong, does this mean that as soon as Dende dies, Goku and Shenlong die, too? Or did Shenlong replace Dende with Goku, and now since they're a weird hybrid, they're a different type of Dragonball dragon? Er, is Goku a dragon now?
What's scarier than a DBZ H-game?

Haha. Wont they get a shock when they try to summon Shernon and instead get a pointy haired Saiya-jin. XD

Lmao. I believe the conclusion for the end is up to each one of us. I think it was made that way for a reason, so that Dragonball the series lives on in our imaginations. Dragonball GT ended in 1995 if I am correct in Japan, which is over 10 years ago and it's still coming out with hit games and such, which I think will continue in every other country. I personally like to think that Goku fused with the dragon, but then again in the movie with Goku Jr...Goku appears as a presents or ghost near Grandpa Gohan's shrine which indicates him passing.

The answer is simple. GT's ending, like the rest of GT, was just one big plothole. :P

They don't reveal anything about the ending. We don't really know who's still around or what happened to Goku. They probably didn't even come up with an answer of their own(one of the GT dragonbook's questions is what happened to Goku, and even it reveals no clear answer).
Dragonball GT ended in 1995
The manga ended in 1995, the DBZ anime ended in 1996(or was it late 1995?), and GT ended in 1997. I heard GT was originaly supposed to end after Bebi(that would've been so much better, way less mistakes and plotholes to haunt people :P ) but was continued because they were supposed to keep it gong untill Final Bout's release.

I don't know, I think it was clear enough...
As far as I can tell, they simply came up with a new "death level", since "regular death" in the Dragon World had little to do with actual death and thus had little dramatic impact left after all these years.
the DBZ anime ended in 1996(or was it late 1995?)
January 31, 1996.

The ending of GT was just a way to rap up the series when the people at Toei ran out of ideas. Well, that's how I think of it...

Really, can't we have one thread about GT without someone bashing it? It really gets tiresomes seeing the expression "GT was one big plothole" every time this series gets brought up.

As for the ending, I agree with those that says there is not suppose to be any concreate answers, and that they meant to leave it up to our imaginations(that thing about the GT Dragonbook is most likely because there shouldn't be any "official" answer to what happened at the end, and I'm glad for that).

This is gonna get quite problematic in a while. No matter how much they will make the games better, its gonna stay the same story. They can't take this on forever. Once they will put every single character that was atleast a little bit important in the games they will run out ideas. The only chance I see is either a new Dragonball saga, which probably won't happen, or tryng something new and coming up with games telling a story that happened either before or after Dragonball. Hey, it has been done with Star Wars.

I always assumed this was Goku's next level of training. He trained with Roshi, then Kami, then North Kaio, and then by himself. What greater power exists for Goku to train under? Shenlong, himself, of course. Also, doesn't Vegeta say something about Goku leaving to train when he speaks with Pan? I never interpreted this as Vegeta consoling her, but as a literal description of Goku's next adventure.

At least, that's how I interpret it for the brief fancomic I started a long time ago... >_>

I'm not sure he's got much to learn from a dude that got killed by Piccolo Daimaô though...

In the beginning of the GT special, it shows Pan praying to a headstone with "Son Goku" writing on it. So maybe he did die after all? Or, maybe Pan just made that stone because she figured she'd never see her grandpa again. :? Who knows.

I too would like to think that he became immortal, like a god or something.
