No offence meant, saying that it's in the Daizenshuu is one thing, but saying it's the truth is something else entirely.Olivier Hague wrote:Hilarious.Deus ex Machina wrote:And Goku & Vegeta are brothers, it's revealed when Goku transforms into SSJ5.
Look, Tenshinhan is of extra-terrestrial descent. That's as official as it gets: stated in the Daizenshû, among other things.
I'm sorry if you didn't know about that, but hey.
It's a book that's riddled with inconsistencies, based on a story that can't even keep its own facts straight between manga and anime. And neither form has ever supported that Tenshinhan had any extraterrestrial heritage, just looking different from the average human doesn't constitute infallible evidence.

It doesn't say anything about that in the manga (or the anime?), if that's what you're asking.Kendamu wrote:Outside of the Daizenshuu does it ever say that Tenshinhan is anything besides human?
But the fact he's of extra-terrestrial descent has also been mentioned in a video game guide, for example.
Are video games a reliable source?Olivier Hague wrote:It doesn't say anything about that in the manga (or the anime?), if that's what you're asking.Kendamu wrote:Outside of the Daizenshuu does it ever say that Tenshinhan is anything besides human?

Yes, the Daizsenshuu are reliable - but we can't just assume that 'because it was in a reliable source' that it's consistent with the series. The manga itself is riddled with plot holes.Olivier Hague wrote:I didn't say "a video game", I said "a video game guide". "For example."
And the Daizenshû are a reliable source.
I look at it like this: they're trying to explain the third eye. Is there another, better exlpaination for it? Yes, Tien is based of of from Erlang Shen 'Journey to the West'.
(é) Yeah, I'm famous. Super famous. I start things.

I don't see the problem. How is it not consistent with the series, according to you?desirecampbell wrote:we can't just assume that 'because it was in a reliable source' that it's consistent with the series.
So is Gokû, and he's an alien. Is there another, better exlpaination for it? Yes, Tenshinhan is based of of from Erlang Shen 'Journey to the West'.

The reason why it can't be true is because it's a statement that isn't supported with any other evidence, from the manga, the anime, or the series creator.
I like to think that there are many different levels of DragonBall "facts", such as the manga is more official than the anime, and the anime is more official than the movies.
For instance we know Yamcha could never have defeated Olibu, but we see it happen in the anime anyways, so this is somewhat "official".
We see Tapion bestow his sword on the young Trunks of the present time line, and even though we know that this story couldn't possibly explain how the Trunks of the future recieved the same sword, we have to accept it as a lower form of official, or movie logic like I call it. (Now I've mentioned Trunks' sword, I can't be accused of going off-topic. >.>)
So here I've shown two examples of events that have actually happened in the series, and the vast majority of fans agree that they shouldn't even be considered true. Now Tenshinhan being a descendant of aliens is something completly different.
1. Tenshinhan's heritage is never explored at any length, in any form of the media. Nothing in the manga, anime, or movies.
2. Of all the alien species presented in the DragonBall world, not one of them even remotely resembles Tenshinhan. Infact he's the only character who had a third eye on his forehead.
So where does this "official" evidence come from? A single entry in the Daizenshuu without any reasoning or explination?
I've said it before and I'll say it again, just because Tenshinhan looks weird does not make him an alien. Not anymore so than Kuririn, Oolong, or Karin.
And no, I'll admit I haven't read them. But there's little to read in one book that's a trading card guide, in one book that's an episode guide, in one that's a picture gallery, etc.

Exaggerating maybe; but from what I've heard alone, the timeline and power level sections from it alone are innacurate, and even if that's all that's wrong with it, it's still too many. Now you're not exaggerating at all...
(besides... a book? did you even read them?)

'Never said it did. But the fact that the Daizenshû state he is of extra-terrestrial descent does.just because Tenshinhan looks weird does not make him an alien.
There's quite a lot to read in some of these books. And if I remember well, that one comes from the last guide, i.e. the encyclopedia.there's little to read in one book that's a trading card guide, in one book that's an episode guide, in one that's a picture gallery, etc.
