Which Timeline is the true timeline?

Post by Synthe » Thu Jul 13, 2006 3:53 pm

Future Trunks timeline or the timeline that we see in dragon ball z.

Both. Future Trunks' timeline is the original timeline, and the main timeline is created by Trunks' first jump. However, the original timeline still exists beside the 'new' timeline. Furthermore, two more timelines are created (in my own theory anyway). There's a topic on this somewhere in Dragonball Questions.

Define "true". Both timelines exist side by side, as different dimensions. How is one more true than the other? In DBZ, you can't change the past. You can only create different realities by time travelling. Your own timeline remains unchanged, while another timeline experiences the changes you made. Both are as true as each other.

This isn't even a complete sentence (and yes, I understand it's a continuation of the thread title... that doesn't count). Please re-read the forum rules.

Trunks' future is the original one, while the one we know is the altered one. Therefore, I suppose Trunks' is the "true" timeline.

To be fair, we don't really know which one came 'first'. Technically speaking the Z timeline we know could have happened first, then the timeline of Mirai Trunks' just intersected it. It's far, far more convienient when drawing diagrams to show Trunk's timeline first but that doesn't necessarily mean his timeline exhisted first. After all - Trunks even stated himself the Androids of the main Z timeline were far stronger then the ones in his own. That's not something he changed by time travelling, it was already that way, so the universes were seperate from the get go. Not a divergent path. Therefore no one will ever really know which one came first, and maybe the two universes were even created at the same time.

Both timelines aren't true or either false. Every day, hour, minute, second, or nanosecond is a bit of a timeline. Capsule Corporation has a machine that makes it possible to travel to a different timeline. But none of the timelines do have a connection with the other timelines unless the traveler who used the machine joins one of the different ones. Like Cell, who wanted to absorb the androids in the past if he didn't managed to absorb them in his current timeline. All this time traveling stuff is one of the weirdest things in DBZ..

Simply because Trunks altered the manga's timeline means nothing. Cell altered it first.

Look at it this way

Timeline 1: Goku's timeline

Timeline 2:
Trunks' timeline

Timeline 3: Cell's timeline

The manga/show focuses on timeline 1. When Cell arrived it was changed, so I guess even the time after the Freeza arc could be considered another timeline. You have to remember Kami noticed things changing even before Trunks arrived. So Goku's timeline wouldve ended up being different even if Trunks haddent shown up

Oh god no... no more... no more timeline talk...

Think of the children!

Anyway... 'true' timeline could mean anything. to answer the question, you need to define what 'true' means.

I apologize in advance for being mean, but not really.

The most logical is this...

The "true" timeline would be Trunks'. It's the first, original, unaltered.

Some theories of time travel say that if you travel back in time that very act creates another time line, which means a paradox would be impossible ( so none of that shooting grandpa nonsense). So there is no true timeline just alternates. =3
