Yeah besides that one line in the opening with "South Galaxy has been destroyed" but I guess that was a mis-understanding rather than taking their own route. I wonder though since most of the "American Fanbase" of DBZ love Broly so much and thought his plot was amazing. With the accurate dialog. Makes me wonder. Why do they complain about Kai dialog changing so much and how would they liked an accurate dub when they were a kid-teen-young adult- and even present dayABED wrote:Yeah, Chris was the writer for that movie. I think Kaiser Neko captures Trunks better than Eric Vale, and Shudo Ranmaru captures No. 18 better than Colleen Clinkenbeard(and Meredith McCoy).thatdbzguy wrote:So you think the TFS dub is better than the Kai dub?B wrote:I watched DBZ Abridged... #38 or #39 a few days ago, and was just bewildered at how much better Trunks and 18 are in a fan project than they're professional counterparts in Kai. The script, even with all the jokes, honestly wasn't changed to any great extent, and those two characters weren't really telling jokes in the episode I watched. In terms of Trunks and 18, it was a pretty straightforward dub and light on parody.

Really? I honestly can't stand Neko's Trunks honestly. Sounds to...bitchy? I just don't like it. I admit that Shundo 18 is legit. Shit is honestly the best English voice(Yes I'm well aware it's a parody) of 18.B wrote:I think Kaiser Neko captures Trunks better than Eric Vale, and Shudo Ranmaru captures No. Ms. McCoy gave this... "bored with the world" voice that contrasted so perfectly with her brother and pretty much every other female. DB/Z is never going to win an award for writing great woman and between our main ladies of Bulma and Chi-Chi, we got two loludmouths. And of course 17 is a childish, excitable dope. Having 18's dry wit ("look, he noticed. How cute" in reference to Goku seeing her at the Tournament) was a great way to make one of the few respectable women on the show stand out.

Even though I prefer McCoy over Clinkenbeard, I was alright with 18 getting recast. I just wish Brice Armstrong didn't retire from voice acting, he was a great Ginyu and in addition, was probably my favorite narrator in Dragon Ball.

My Trunks is definitely not supposed to be compared to an actual dub voice for him, of course. Just putting that out there; it's more of a parody voice.TheGmGoken wrote:Really? Yea I know. I honestly just don't like him no offence. Was it you who voiced him when Vegeta raged? Or was that someone else. I try to avoid the rasp and make him sound more natural. Also, I play him a bit more naive and out of touch with everyone else, which makes him sound a little more childish considering everyone else around him is just insane.TheGmGoken wrote:Yea I know. But yeah, it's okay if you don't really like the voice. But it's not really supposed to sound like Eric Vale; similar, but not exact.
... ATTEMPT TO TIE THIS INTO THE TOPIC: I really respect and enjoy Vale as an actor. But I felt like the rasp was just way too prominent in Kai.

Yeah, the rasp was bad. If you listen to him in DBZ when Trunks first shows up, there is little to no rasp, but he was still a green actor.

Re: Were you satisfied by the English dub of Kai?
Yeah, Vale's Trunks is a really weird situation. The voice itself seemed much better back in the original dub of Z, but his acting is better in Kai...only to be marred by the upped rasp. I dunno what made them do that either. Maybe it was just a by-product of him trying to sound younger than he was, since he was only like...19 or so, I believe, back when he voiced Trunks the first time around. It's just this really weird thing that happened though, and for the most part, I still like him as Trunks (be really curious to see how differently he'd tackle someone like Yuki from Fruits Basket nowadays though).
Kaiser's Trunks definitely sounds more like it's own thing than a Vale impression to me. It's a similar tone of voice perhaps, but it's definitely more it's own thing, and works great for the character as he's presented.

Re: Were you satisfied by the English dub of Kai?
Vale was in his mid 20s when he first voiced Trunks. The thing is, I don't think his normal voice is so deep that it he couldn't just use that for 17 year old Trunks. At most he would pitch it up a little.

Re: Were you satisfied by the English dub of Kai?
Ah, thanks. I knew he was fairly young, just couldn't remember the exact age range. And I agree, his natural voice is still light enough that it should work for Trunks just fine - I'm just assuming that the rasp possibly came from his attempt to sound younger or something. I dunno how or why that'd make it so raspy, but...there's gotta be some reason for it, surely.

Re: Were you satisfied by the English dub of Kai?
I read some theory that they were making a father-son connection between Vegeta and Trunks by having the rasp. The rasp makes him sound angrier than he should. Sure, Trunks does have some justifiable anger, but he's more polite than anything else.

Re: Were you satisfied by the English dub of Kai?
Huh. If that's the case, that's a really weird choice, especially since they didn't have Schemmel do any extra rasp to his voice so that it sounded more plausible when Colleen's Goku would grow up into him, or Gohan would sound more like his son. Granted that's working backwards (from son to father) instead of what you're saying, but still.

Trunks is obviously John Connor so Vale's Kai Trunks just makes me think he's inspired by Christian Bale's John Connor in Terminator: Salvation.

Currently watching it and I'm loving the new dub.
