Then I'd just watch the original DBZ in Japanese since you can watch Kai legally, it's better, and if you like DBZ you'll love watching it in its original form.JEFFMAN219 wrote:Well for Kai I can watch it legaly due to the fact that own it all on dvd and blu ray

DBZ ended after the Frieza Saga.Goku wrote:You haven't figured it out yet? I'm the Saiyan who came all the way from Earth for the sole purpose of beating you. I am the warrior you've heard of in legends, pure of heart and awakened by fury. That's what I am. I AM THE SUPER SAIYAN, SON GOKU!

That's not good but you'll get used to it and along the way Masako's performance will make you jaw-drop because her screams and overall voice acting is brilliant.JEFFMAN219 wrote:Ok so far I have watched the first four episodes of DBZ in Japanese and so far its good except for one thing Gokus voice. Re: Watching Dragon Ball Z in Japanese
I can see someone being put off by Goku's voice. So many fans of the Japanese version got so used to it that they don't understand how it could sound "weird" but I get it.
What you have to understand is that the voice actress was cast to play young Goku in Dragon Ball and she was so great at it, that I'm guessing they decided to keep her because of the amazing talent she brought to Goku's portrayal. Believe it or not, she actually does a great job, even deepening Goku's voice as he gets older. If you watch from Dragon Ball, by the time Goku grows up, you associate her so much with Goku, that it seems like an absolutely seemless transition.
But I get what you mean. My first introduction to Goku's Japanese voice was through PS1 video games in 1999. It was a bit weird at first, but you just get used to it.

Yeah, man! It'll take you a while to get used to it. Took me a little while as well but I can't go back now. Nozawa is just too perfect as Goku for me to listen to anyone else nowadays.
Awesome to see someone giving the Japanese version a go. Keep us updated with your thoughts as you keep going!

Re: Watching Dragon Ball Z in Japanese
Just finished watching clips of Vageta doing the final flash to Cell in Japanese for Z and Kai and in Kai it sounds like his voice got strained or something.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dd_jtACCt4 for Z
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLWHRMT_YBI for Kai
I think I'm just gonna watch Z in Japanese and just watch Kai in English because in Kai the dub voice actors sound better then their Japanese counterparts.

I think Vegeta's JPN voice smokes now. Which kinda ruins the voice kinda.JEFFMAN219 wrote:Just finished watching clips of Vageta doing the final flash to Cell in Japanese for Z and Kai and in Kai it sounds like his voice got strained or something.

In that daisuki website their video player sucks it keeps stopping even though my internet is fast and youtube loads fast on really laptop as well.theoriginalbilis wrote:Of course, it's recommended. Opinions of the English version vary from person to person, but the Japanese version is the original and is a different beast altogether from the FUNimation dub. You can watch Japanese DBZ with subtitles rather easily and legally through Hulu, FUNimation's website, or even with the Dragon Box video on the website Daisuki.JEFFMAN219 wrote:Hey guys I'm thinking of re watching the original Dragon Ball Z all the way through in Japanese on funimations site and my question is should I do it or not?

I think you should, it's the way you supposed to watch it, it's more serious and intense in my eyes.JEFFMAN219 wrote:

Ryō Horikawa didn't just start smoking recently, he's been smoking forever, even when Dragon Ball Z was in syndication. It's just that the smoking for so long has affected his vocal chords over the years. I agree that he shouldn't smoke, but it is what it is. On a related note, Akira Toriyama smokes like a chimney as well.TheGmGoken wrote:I think Vegeta's JPN voice smokes now. Which kinda ruins the voice kinda.

There's really no need for it in Japanese. Well, unless you're really into sound quality, but other than that I don't see a reason.JEFFMAN219 wrote:What do you guys think of Dragon Ball Z Kai in Japanese?
Re: Watching dragon ball z in Japanese
I really enjoy Yamamoto's score and the pacing of it and I don't particularly care for the English VAs so that's my reason.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:There's really no need for it in Japanese. Incidentally, Toriyama's own voice in the talk he gave for the art exhibit last year sounded pretty hoarse. Pretty different from the way he sounded when he sat down with Tetsuko Kuroyanagi around 1983.Hujio wrote:Ryō Horikawa didn't just start smoking recently, he's been smoking forever, even when Dragon Ball Z was in syndication. Re: Watching Dragon Ball Z in Japanese
He may have just been fighting off a cold or recovering from one, but then again, given how infrequently he makes public appearances or speaks in public, it's probably not the easiest thing to gauge what his normal voice is like nowadays.SaiyaJedi wrote:Incidentally, Toriyama's own voice in the talk he gave for the art exhibit last year sounded pretty hoarse. Re: Watching Dragon Ball Z in Japanese
I not too experienced when it comes to making comparisons.
Dragonball is a japanese show. If Akira Toriyama's the blood, then Nozawa-san, Furukawa-san & others are the soul.
Ageing factor is acceptable when it comes to seiyuu's performance.
Music by Yamamoto is my biggest gripes about Kai. When I listen to his scores, I realize why Kikuchi's Legend.
For me, Yamamoto's Kai scores rank along Funi's Bruce.
For the most parts, Kai's scores not only ruin every tension in particular scene (take Goku meeting Perfect Cell in his ring post-ROSAT for example), it feels generic imo.
No offence to kai fans.
