Goku's Shunkan Idou?

Post by superstar » Mon Sep 18, 2006 12:20 am

Hi, (yes it is a legitimit question) I was wondering about how does Goku use this technique?

We see Goku in the canon manga use the Shunkan Idou without putting two fingers to his head!

Sometimes when he travels long distances he puts the two fingers to his head!

My question is can Goku use the Shunkan Idou technique at will?

Well, I was always under the impression that the two fingers thing just helped him concentrate. Like the kamehameha, I figured that the hand.finger positioning is just the accepted way of doing it, but the move can be done in other ways.

As for how the technique works, the best explanation we get in the series is that Goku senses out someone's ki and transports himself to wherever that person is. So this means that Goku can't go somewhere that's abandoned (unless he's in movie 12, that is).

Yep. As seen when versing Cell, he uses the Shunkan Idou in combination with a full-charged Kamehameha, giving us the famous combo called "Shunkan Idou Kamehamehma".

Also, when we see him using it the first time in the manga, he doesn't put his fingers to his head, and travels from the spot where he meets Trunks to the Kame house, which is about 10,000 km away if I remember correctly.

And...I don't see how having two fingers on his forehead means that he can't use it at will. Obviously, he can use it whenever he wants...he just puts his fingers to his head most of the time.

Yeah, their are lots of instances where Goku doesn't even put two fingers to his head and uses Shunkan Idou!

When he first arrives out of the Room of Spirit and Time Goku just uses the technique to go see Cell face to face!

So does that mean that their is no DELAY when using this technique, and he can use it at will?

I always get confused, sometimes I can't tell when he uses it.

Well translated in the manga, the technique is called instantaneous movement, so it would be assumed that he gets there erm... instantaneously. In other words, no time passes when he moves from one spot to another.

Goku can use the technique at will, as long as he knows where it is he's going to, and that someone is there so he can feel their ki, he can only go where somebody is.

The two fingers on his head, is probably just to make him concentrate easier, it's why he doesn't need to do it when he's in battle because he can see where he wants to go, but when hes searching and needs full attention he uses the two fingers, like when searching for Bulma, or Planet Namek.

Think when you are angry and you put your hand on your head and want peace and quiet to think about whatever is pissing you off, that's what it's like when Goku's in a tough situation, like when he needs to find Bulma before she uses the Dragonball's, she's got a hard ki to sense, so putting he fingers on his head is his way of ignoring his surroundings and focusing on the matter at hand.

Wow, so I made a mistake. I was in a rush forgive me for being human.

Plenty of people in this forum make mistakes with spelling and grammer.

Ahem, grammar.

Seriously though, Mike REALLY stresses proper grammar and spelling on these forums. Just try to spellcheck before you post, so you don't get flamed. It's so simple.

You should, and are supposed to, check to make sure you aren't writing like an idiot. You, more so than most people here, don't.

Your posts are poorly worded, punctuated, and spelled.

Furthermore, you're argumentative and don't listen to others when they correct or inform you.

We all try to help people along when they misstep, but you're falling all over yourself. Please, please, start typing better, and with more purpose - or Mike will kick you out of here.

It's a very handy trick of Goku's, otherwise known as Instant Translocation as said in the Ocean dub.
