Re: If a different mangaka wrote Dragon Ball
It's not exactly clear that he feared death or exactly what was motivating him the most. He ran from death, but he also wanted to die.
The biggest truths aren't original. The truth is ketchup. It's Jim Belushi. Its job isn't to blow our minds. It's to be within reach.

Re: If a different mangaka wrote Dragon Ball
I've never seen resurrection as a means for undermining the emotional resonance of a death. And yes, Toguro fought Yusuke under the pretense that he wanted the the best challenge possible (akin to Cell's motivation), but then we realize his true motivation was to atone for Kairen killing his students by becoming the thing he hated; then having Yusuke kill him, Genkai could be resurrected because of the wish the Club grants for the winner (yes, Sakyo & Toguro killed them) & Genkai could help Yusuke to not be like Toguro and blindly pursue strength.
Also, Genkai's resurrection was fine to me, she still taught Yusuke later to not let his power go to his head, and it was nice to hear her wisdom later in the series.

Oh, and about the healing pod thing, Hiei was revived via Mukuro's pod, but as to whether he actually died fighting Shigure is a little unclear. I think he did tho

If Kishimoto wrote Dragon Ball, Boo would have died in the most anti-climatic and lame way possible

Ohhhhh, so THAT'S the bit that was being talked about. I didn't think of that since the way I've always looked at it was that Hiei didn't die, and the pod was just healing him. Granted it's a pretty iffy thing for him to have survived at all, but...well, it makes more sense given what the series shows us than the idea of it reviving him completely.SaiyanZ wrote:Oh, and about the healing pod thing, Hiei was revived via Mukuro's pod, but as to whether he actually died fighting Shigure is a little unclear. Nah, he's outright said to have died. And Shigure was killed by decapitation but pop him in the pod and he's not only brought back to life, but perfectly fine to enter the upcoming tournament. Given that Genkai was revived earlier, it's not even that much of a stretch despite coming out of nowhere.Gyt Kaliba wrote:Ohhhhh, so THAT'S the bit that was being talked about. The reason I have no problem with Roshi coming back to life, is simply because the method used to revive him was something that was something that existed since the first chapter, and was shown reviving people before that point. It was a very good idea to have the first person revived by Shenron be a minor character.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Kaguya fight lasted about as long as the Pure Buu fight, it seems.

I don't understand the notion that a person's entire writing style would be based on one manga they've done.
Re: If a different mangaka wrote Dragon Ball
Well some authors, like Rumiko Takahashi, have several well known series. So you can see that they have some form of mutual 'style' through their several works.

Right, but given my statement, it should be abundantly obvious to those with critical thinking skills that I am not talking about the discussion surrounding her.Kid Buu wrote:Well some authors, like Rumiko Takahashi, have several well known series. Anyway, if Hiro Mashima (Rave Master/Fairy Tail) wrote DB, Puar would be a mascot-type character.

And we would have a lot of fanservice and cliche friendship power beating everything.Kid Buu wrote:Anyway, if Hiro Mashima (Rave Master/Fairy Tail) wrote DB, Puar would be a mascot-type character.

It does abuse that a fair amount, yeah (Fairy Tail I mean), but I'd still argue that it's one of the more enjoyable shonen fighting titles out there right now. Though to be fair, I can't speak on HxH at all since I refuse to check it out until it's actually...well, ended, given all of it's hiatuses.FortuneSSJ wrote:and cliche friendship power beating everything.

Wise decision. I started watching the series last year, first the original then the remake, and even so I think it was pretty early-Gyt Kaliba wrote:I can't speak on HxH at all since I refuse to check it out until it's actually...well, ended, given all of it's hiatuses.

Watch the HxH anime, 2011 version. It's much better at making the audience understand what's going on without the sketchy drawing by Togashi and is up there with Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood as a perfect adaptation of a shonen.

I wonder how it would turn out with Kubo. He seems to have a very good memory. So much so that he brought back something mentioned 300+ chapters ago. Plus we know what it would look like art wise -

Wow, Kubo's Vegeta looks like Kazuya from Tekken.
