That the Budokai games have little distinction between characters on the surface-level is common knowledge, and what people refer to when they bring it up. High-level Budokai is in the same boat as high-level Super Smash Brothers. Its intended world of play and its technical world of play are divided by a hard wall the requires greater knowledge and a different interpretation of the game; spouting lingo from one side of that wall to the other makes about as much sense as doing it over a physical wall. Has a response of "get gud" ever helped someone learn a game? No?

Greatest of all time as far as legacy is a mite easier to track than quality. Its not fool-proof because it requires elevating games that were monumental on release but dated in a year like Budokai 1, but its something. Say, among the 21st century games, I think you could give a pat on the back to Tenkaichi 2 for being a night-and-day sequel with its predecessor, and Legacy of Goku II for not only doing that but for being a solid western-developed Dragon Ball game to boot.

Just like Dragon Ball since Chapter #4.

Lol, why did you bring back up an argument that was from last yearand wasn't even being discussed anymore? Regardless.

That the Budokai games have little distinction between characters on the surface-level is common knowledge,

Surface level? why should it matter? Characters have different chains, combos, animations, and different set ups. Different attacks do different things to the opponent. Characters have certain priority over the other. This isn't(and shouldn't) even be restricted to combos, as their ultimates(more so for BL and SBAR) and deathmoves make them different as well . Shin Budokai has it's own level of distinction, as does Infinite World. Their combos and chains are different. Range is different. Deathmoves are different. Some of which can be used as different combo starters, others which can break through guarding(kinda like a grab ultimate). Ultimates are different(in SBAR, even having more distinction since some ultimates can be cancelled into cancel combos like Bardocks). They do not play the same

A game not being as distinct as a better fighter=/=characters having little to no distinction. Sure, compared to a more unique game budokai doesn't have that level of in your face uniqueness. But the overall aspect of combos/priority/different set ups/dm's are enough to make them unique and different from each other . As such, they are different. Saying that they play the same and then trying to limit it to one aspect to support your point is silly.

So what you're saying is that face value holds little importance when regarding a game's true value of depth. Many people will see a game as lacking a uniqueness simply because they aren't considering the right aspects of the game. Funny... I completely get your point, yet no one listens when the same thing is said about Tenkaichi.

Personally, I feel that most fighting games (even the ones that have not been recognized and shrugged off) hold a depth worth looking into. Through my own experience, I have seen games that were expected to be played under a specific rule-set and understanding that evolved into something much more. Of course my argument would be for Tenkaichi 2, but I typically reference SSBM for this point. I think a lot of games hold far more potential than they're given credit for. People will argue that they know what they're talking about when they are simply referencing face value, but what would happen to their argument if even one person were thrown into the picture who actually possessed the dedication to discover a game's true depth? It would be like me from 12-13 years ago attempting to explain the depth of SSBM and then M2K or Mango walked in the room. Would they even attempt to argue with me? Would they even have the time to explain the true depth of what they know? Or would they simply shake their heads and feel sad for me? Understand the frustration here...

SSJ Kid Trunks, hands down, most dangerous character in Tenkaichi 2.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I'll throw some love out to the Tenkaichi series. That's how I want a Dragon Ball game to fight. Even if you feel that there is a lack of variety between style the style of the characters, there is just so much you can do, and it feels authentic to the series fights. I liked the Budokai games, but they still were very much in the vein of all other fighters. Not for nothing but when you're best DBZ game merely feels like a mishmash between Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Tekken, with teleporting and flying, it doesn't exactly cut it for me. Budokai 3 did have a great story mode and was enjoyable for what it was.

But Tenkaichi 3 had everything. Great flying mechanics, dodging, teleporting, a very 3 dimensional combat experience, multi layered approaches to fighting, beam battles, teleporting, energy bursts, rush attacks, energy balls, a variation of attacks per character, the best roster of any Dragon Ball game, team battles, plus a lot of little details that really worked (Kid Goku not being able to fly, Krillin having his charged energy blast take on the Kienzan's form, characters with swords actually having it incorporated in there melee combat, different move sets and final attacks based on the form you're character is in). That and the feeling of fighting in a huge space that can be destroyed, and speed, and freeness is incredible.

I really think all the fighting games would be best served by taking that game as a template and focusing on improving it and adding details, adding characters, better graphics, etc. And then someday you'll get a perfect Dragon Ball game.

I'll also give a should out to Buu's Fury, which is far and away the best game of that series, and the best at doing a detailed retelling of a specific saga. And it's mechanics are as good as those games will get.

#3. Raging Blast 2. A great sequel to a good game. The roster was nice, the music (Yamamoto's) was solid, the gameplay was...familiar, which isn't a bad thing to me.

#2. Budokai 3. I loved the freedom flying in Universe Mode searching for dragonballs, collecting capsules, and unlocking secret battles. It had that arcade MK feel to it, and I love MK. Not only that, but in my opinion the gameplay in Budokai 3 was the best in the series and overall the most balanced, but you'll find out why it doesn't crack the #1 spot right........now!

#1. Tenkaichi 2. Here's the thing. The soundtrack and storymode in Tenkaichi 2 is my absolute favorite, but that's not why I put it at #1, surprised? The overall gameplay isn't my favorite either (I prefer Budokai 3 and Tenkaichi 3 in terms of gameplay). HOWEVER, the reason why it's at #1 is because Tenkaichi 2 is an absolute HUGE improvement over its predecessor. Of all DBZ games I've ever played the first Tenkaichi has got to be my absolute least favorite, and after playing Tenkaichi 2 it was like playing a completely new series.

3. Super Dragon Ball Z
Great fighting mechanics, you can pull off some great combos and every character feels different.
2. Budokai 3
Looks great, plays great and sounds great... but not the best DBZ game.
1. Tenkaichi 2
This game has it all. The incredibly large story mode that goes through everything, even that stupid Garlic Jr Saga. The fighting is fast paced and you can pull off some great combos. The soundtrack... ohhh man the soundtrack, if you have not heard it yet you must listen to it now, it's amazing. The huge character roster, although Tenkaichi 3 has more who the hell is going to play as kid Chi-Chi?
I can't find any flaws in this game, I freaking love it.

Hard to pick a game above all others... But if I had to choose, I would say Infinite World, just for that natural speed and reactivity in its gameplay.
But of course I have a lot of affection for SBAR on PSP, which is more technical than B3 and faster than BL.
After, as regards the graphics, 3D models and rendering in general, I would say BL, without hesitating one second.
The implication is that we should be patient with learning, and with learners. It takes time to learn to do things. What seems easy to us now may have been difficult at first.

The best Dragon Ball Z game is Sparking Meteor.

The best video game that has the Dragon Ball Z license is Super Dragon Ball Z.

So far my favorites still consist of rather older DBZ games, the newest release being Burst Limit. Anything after that don't deserve spots on my list.

1. Budokai 3 (I place this on top of IW only because of the HD release I purchased on my PS3 :P it's cool!)
2. Infinite World
3. Burst Limit (sure the cut-scenes and voice acting was extremely POOR, but the fighting and graphics are 'perfect' [no pun intended])
4. Budokai 1
5. Shin Budokai 2 (this was one of the more challenging DBZ games, and I liked that)
6. Tenkaichi 3
7. Tenkaichi 2
8. Attack of the Saiyans (do a sequel already!!! It's my favorite DS game)
9. Legacy of Goku II (I still play this today.. I don't know what gets me hooked!!)
10. Buu's Fury

There are many of the games I enjoy playing so doing 5 wasn't enough. Had to go for 10.

Yeah. Burst Limit is still the best looking DBZ game. It's unfortunate there are minor details they didn't put any effort towards, like acting and such. And why no sequel? I'm sure many other people loved this one.

Budokai 3, it's still my favorite fighting game to this day (with Melee as a close second)

If anyone can remind me then at the end of the year I'll count up everyone's top favorite game.

Hm, my personal favorite is DBZ3/B3... It's so much fun to exploit the hell out of the combat system... Bonus points for having kick-ass soundtrack, awesome story mode, and stat customization... But I may like Infinite World better when I get to playing it, in terms of combat at least. Let's hope Xenoverse changes all this.

I wouldn't put that one on top, but it is severely underrated.

Man I loved Legends on the playstation. It was so simple and I couldn't believe there were multiple characters flying around screen, fighting each other, doing their own thing. I was just used to 1 on 1. I don't remember that many 3 on 3 games besides this one. This game even went all the way to the Buu arc!

Anyways beside that I really liked Budokai solely for the cut scenes and quirky what-ifs.. Oh and SSJ2 Trunks.. 2 had a neat board game story mode and 3 was fun too with the flying and addition of GT characters.

Budokai Tenkaichi 3 was pretty awesome having so many characters in there and Oozaru's. Wasted my youth on that game lol.

Last game I really liked was Attack of the Saiyans. Like finally! An awesome dragon ball chrono trigger esque-game on handheld. Super sad it never got any sequels.

I really thought Xenoverse could be one of the greats but I just don't know with that BOZ like battles. I hated BOZ style of fighting.
