I dunno if this is excessive nitpickery...

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

But I just noticed the Daizenshuu #4 Dragon World Map doesn't sync up at all with the few times we're shown maps in the manga (Red Ribbon Army's map, Pilaf's globe).

Mind you, those maps don't seem to sync with each other...

This just shows how inaccurate the Daizenshuu can be sometimes. That's one of the reasons why I disregard the fact that Tenshinhan descends from aliens. BUT LET'S NOT DIG INTO THAT :).
Good people last longer!

Pilaf's globe shows the landmasses of our own world. :P It's called a slip-up.

What does the RR map show? Is it, like Pilaf's globe, an image of our planet - or is it a different "dragonworld".

As far as I can tell, it's a different "Dragon World."

At that point, Toriyama didn't exactly work on a map of Dragon World with full detail yet. :P

Also, I just noticed that before the opening of the Cell Game, we get a shot of Earth from space and it looks exactly like our Earth, not "Dragon World."

I think it's mentioned several times in the series that the world in Dragon Ball is actually Earth, but don't quote me on that one.

Also, I remember that on the Freeza saga, Freeza called Gohan "an Earthling", and after his fight with Goku, he tells his father to travel towards Earth.

If those two scenes aren't filler/canon to the series, then I think we might just have a case.

Yeah, it is called Earth, but it's not OUR Earth. It's different. Are there dog people on our Earth? Nuh uh.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Toriyama, could've picked any name he wanted. ANY NAME.

He chose the name "Earth". Can you tell me why?

Well I guess earth to make it more familar to the reader, I don't know. It wasn't really until DBZ that the whole alien thing was fully introduced. I would get turned off if the DragonBall franchise was more sci-fi than it already is..(not that I'm turned on by it now but you know what I mean..)

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Superman and Batman live on Earth, but go find Metropolis or Gotham City.

Spider-Man and Dr. Strange live on Earth, but go find the Daily Bugle building or the Sanctum Sanctorum.

Guys, it's Earth. But not our Earth. Seriously, it's not based on our own world. You don't see animal people walking around, do you? :\

Yes yes, ten seconds after I posted I just KNEW someone was going to find me Metropolis, Illinois.

Change "Superman" to "Captain Marvel" and "Metropolis" to "Fawcett City" then.

Earth doesn't mean our Earth though. I've done dozens of stories with Earth as the planet the story occurs on but the continents don't match up, the physics don't match, the history doesn't match, etc. Yes, it's Earth, but it's a parellel reality Earth where there's no such thing as Japan, America, France, and where dogs are king.

What I find funny regarding that is the subtle moments where characters break the fourth wall, like Murasaki camouflaging himself with an American flag, or DBZ movie 8 (I know, non-canon) where Roshi proclaims "Kuririn, you're the best singer in Japan!" Ah, breaking the fourth wall in DB, gotta love it. Just think of those map/globe moments depicting "our Earth" as among them. :P
