Okay I have done some investigation into this topic. I have contacted my inside source at Funimation. She tells me that the Vegeta Season 1 box set will be released on Febuary 6th 2007. It will include episodes 1-39, containing 6 DVD's, and an average of 6 episodes per disk The Ultimate Uncut Special Edition DVD's have been completely canceled. Jennifer said they will be using a new type of restoration, that will improve there audio and video footage substantially. (not as good as DragonBox) There will be at least a 3-6 month wait inbetween box set releases. PS: This box set will include all the episodes that were supposed to be released in the Ultimate Uncut versions.[/b]

This isn't anything that (1) we haven't already heard from FUNimation, and (2) haven't already heard with regards to this release on retailer sites over the last several months.SS4GOGETA#1 wrote:Okay I have done some investigation into this topic. Half the people on here are talking about 7 or 8 eps per disk and only 29 eps. Plus Retail online stores are not the same as the Official Prodution Company.

Even if this is true, why would Funi restore their own eps? It seems to me it would be less costly to get the restored Dragon Box footage as opposed to restore every episode on their own (unless the company's in Japan are just being hard-assed about the price?).SS4GOGETA#1 wrote:Okay I have done some investigation into this topic. Funimation said they bought some new restoration equipment. So I'm assuming Toei wouldnt sell(or was to expensive) for Funimation.

My biggest worry is Funi getting correct colors... not taking out scratches or removing that glue junk on the some frames. The UUEs have a very different color as opposed to the DragonBox (but, I guess I can't complain too much. Either way, it'll be a cheaper solution than buying the UUEs)SS4GOGETA#1 wrote:Funimation said they bought some new restoration equipment. Yeah it will be cheaper for everyone who hasn't already been ripped off by funimation. Sorry I bought all the UUE DVD's.

Hmm, if what SS4GOGETA#1 is true then that's certainly encouraging news, I guess. But we'll have to wait and see. I am dissapointed to hear about the long gap between box sets. I am hoping to see the entire series released and completed by the end of next year.
By the way I'm just curious why was SS4GOGETA#1 banned?

And SS4GOGETA#1 was banned because he continued to make pointless posts, use bad grammar (including whole posts in caps), advertise his 'shop' in his signature.

The "Ultimate Uncut" name might have been dropped in favor of "First Strike". Or at least its the name FUNimation has given to the DBZ movie box set (movies 1,2 and 3). Its in the Amazon.com discription...
Or it might not be. We'll find out Nov 14th...which I think will get delayed. I mean, its about a month away and we haven't seen any cover art yet. We usually see cover art months in advance.First Strike contains 3 action-packed Dragon Ball Z Movies: Dead Zone, The World's Strongest and Tree of Might. Includes all new English 5.1 Surround Sound and original Japanese Uncut footage.
The Z Store has the box art for the Movie 1-3 set.

They had DB Movie 2 listed individually around the time the DB Movie Box came out, and nothing ever came of it.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:Amazon.com also has each movie listed individually, maybe the'll release them as single disc to.
Back on topic, I'm really looking forward to this Movie 1-3 set, if at least to see Daimao's subtitles, which HAVE to be better translated than the Pioneer subtitles.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

You know, I've been wondering for the longest time who was responsible for those subtitles. Anybody know who did them? I can't seem to find that info on any of the major anime info sites.theoriginalbilis wrote:the Pioneer subtitles.
Eh, those old subtitles were stiff and iffy to begin with, though, and Daimao's stuff will no doubt be much better, like with Dead Zone. So it's no loss, I guess. Just more pointless curiosity.

When I first read about the Season Box Sets back when it was just being announced I was pretty ticked off at FUNimation for reason's I will not mention again. (If you want to know the reason's just go back a few pages and you'll find them.) However, after taking some time to think about it, I'm actually glad they are doing this. For starters I will have more room for other DVD's now because I can get rid of the DragonBall Z Box Sets I already own. Aswell as the VHS's.
Amongst that, while watching one of the Ultimate Uncut Episodes I noticed how badly some of the scene's were, whether that be from them being old or what have you, I do not know, but if FUNimation is restoring them with whatever, then I'm sure I will not be disappointed. (Unless they just start to release them on Blu-Ray or High Definition because I don't want to have to get a different DVD Player just to play them.)
Finally, I won't look as much as a freak with all the DragonBall/Z/GT DVD/VHS's scattered throughout my shelves. Don't get me wrong there, I absouletly am still crazy for the DragonBall franchise and can't wait until it picks back up here in the United States, believe me, before I die I know it will. However, other things have started to come into my life that I need to make room for, so having that extra space will most definately help in the long run.

I bought the First Strike trilogy today. The cover art is cool and I was happy with the fact that it was only $19.99 like the Dragonball Movie Box. I was frustrated, however, with a usual funimation DVD dissapointment which was when I peeled the tape off, it tore some of the cover that was sticking out.
I've already watched Tree of Might. I really like this movie, it's one of my favourites. I really liked the music and the diolouge of funimations english version, besides a couple of pet peeves of mine like Yamcha not saying "Spirit Ball" when he used the attack. It of course always makes me smile when I here Gohan yell "Masenko Ha!" in the Ultamite Uncuts insted of "Kameyameya!".
I thought the picture was amazing and same with the clear surround sound. I'm very satisfied with this collection, it's nice to have along with the originals.
