And it seems that you just love replying to questions without actually answering them. That makes for great "discussion".Godo wrote:Olivier Hauge, it seems like after every statement you have million questions or comments. By my thought, many of them are not really neccesary.
Yeah, I'm weird like that.(Possible question to my post: "Why so? Give me an concrete example.")

The point of this topic is not to discuss each others' lack of skills in argumentation. Stay on topic, or don't post at all.

Can't think of many off the top of my head. One I do remember (because I was researching for quite a few hours) was the list of the number of Senzu each character ate. I felt like fact checking that and looked at every instance where someone ate a Senzu! I know Gokû's and Vegeta's were wrong.Olivier Hague wrote:Other than weird spellings? I'm interested.I have at least read Landmark and Forever, which have a few errors a detail freak like me can easily spot
Anyway, that's just one example of them doing their research wrong. Now me, I could write a guide book!

My point, it feels like his conversations always end like "yes you do!" "no I don't".VegettoEX wrote:The point of this topic is not to discuss each others' lack of skills in argumentation. Stay on topic, or don't post at all.
That's no discussion.
Sorry for being off topic.
EDIT:
On topic: No, Olivier, I haft not read The Almighty, The Infalliable, The Powerful Daizenshuu. Now I have twice answered your question.
(Your answer will probably be: "TWICE?")

So you haven't read the Daizenshû, but still, you think they're "overrated"?Godo wrote:No, Olivier, I haft not read The Almighty, The Infalliable, The Powerful Daizenshuu.
Ah, wait, you listed your reasons:
1) they were hoping to make some profit by selling them for money
2) they were hoping to make some profit by selling them for money
3) they were hoping to make some profit by selling them for money
4) Toriyama didn't write them himself
5) There might be mistakes in them
( 6) Tommy? What the...? )
... OK, then?
Well, it looks like you simply don't want to tell me when you first answered anyway (for some reason), so... Meh?Now I have twice answered your question.

Case closed!
Anyhow, about the Tenshinhan being related to 'aliens'...if you don't believe the Daizenshuu, then look in the Sparking! bios section and see if you can find any incorrect information. You shouldn't, so why would Tenshinhan's bio be any different?

Well the only real reason I'm skeptical is that these are databooks that provide information about the series and most of us are nerdy enough to know that it is never once mentioned or even implied that Tenshinhan is an alien or of alien descent in the cartoon or the manga. So basically the assumption here would have to be that Toriyama told the writers that this was so. Now, these were written at a time when Toriyama's Dragonball memory was probably reliable, so if this was in fact the case then there's no doubt.
However, I see it as unlikely that he would say something like that to them considering that for the most part they were probably just working from the manga and such and didn't have to consult him. Therefore in the more likely scenario that he did not literally give them that info, it was just written as a fun fact (hey, they're official, they can pretty much make it whatever they want) and Toriyama, if he ever looked this over, probably didn't care or assumed that he may have mentioned something along those lines at some point. Sorry if that didn't make sense. Basically What I mean is that this would have to come straight out of Toriyama's mouth...writing....whatever and I'm just not sure he would randomly come up with that, but I guess you never know with him. [/redundancy]

Again, that information was probably taken from that daizenshuu. And, again, a videogame has got to be the worst place to get information from. Really, if your argument is "a videogame said it" I weep for you.Drunken Master wrote:Anyhow, about the Tenshinhan being related to 'aliens'...if you don't believe the Daizenshuu, then look in the Sparking! bios section and see if you can find any incorrect information. Hmm... I can make out do ra go n ba- ru, "no" which there are many of, and hiragana, but the rest is mostly kanji which I'm bad at, so there goes my ability to transliterate it. (Curse my god awful JP->EN transliteration skills!
)
Oh, and this reads from left to right!
Can someone transliterate and/or translate please?

Again, both were created by people that weren't Toriyama. Saying that a databook on a TV show is more informative than the actual TV show is ludicrous. You can't say a book based on X, Y, and Z, is more 'truthful' or 'correct' than Z. Just because you call it a 'databook' doesn't mean it's infallible.Olivier Hague wrote:Again, you're comparing original stories and a databook. You shouldn't do that, really.

I didn't know they were worth a lot of money either but I guess they are. I see them at Book Off in Harajuku (which is a used book store and is the biggest Book Off around me) on a daily basis for about 800 yen so I think I should buy them all and put them on ebay or something.
As I have written before in a different thread:
I can allow someone to write a sequel to one of my books. Then I can praise the outcome because of that I think it's sooooo great! But there may be somw stuff that are not factually correct, but still I think it's a good sequel, a perfect one!
And one question: did he praise the staff and workers of the Daizenshuu, the outcome or both? I don't do japanese.
And then, did Toriyama correct it all? For it to be valid, surely there should be a validity control?
That's my two questions.
