I mean, we did get a much more Toriyama-esque Goku in BoG so who knows!
No, he specifically noted for Battle of Gods that he wrote the dialogue too.

Will find the interview, if someone doesn't beat me to it.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that. Well that explains a lot! Thanks.

I avoided a lot of the Battle of Gods interviews since I didn't want any spoilers. Managed to remain near enough spoiler free until I finally watched it!

Maybe, but on the other hand if Nakao is used to saying it, it might pop up due to his influence if nothing else.

There are multiple instances, but this one is good enough:

In the latest movie, Toriyama-san, you participated in the production from the scriptwriting stage for the first time. What is the reason for that? Was there anything you noticed in coming face-to-face with the work after so long?
I was told about a project for Dragon Ball in its first animated film in a long while, and I read the story outline; while the beings “Beerus, God of Destruction” and “Super Saiyan God” (which goes above Super Saiyan) were interesting, the themes were heavy, and I felt that the world was a bit different from Dragon Ball. Rather than telling them about this or that problematic spot, I thought it would be faster if I just wrote it out concretely, and while I had intended just to give them a model―”for example”―my hand wouldn’t stop, and ultimately, I ended up writing almost everything, including the dialogue. I am reflecting on the fact that I did something terribly rude to the scriptwriter.

The serialization (in Weekly Shōnen Jump) was quite a while ago, so there were quite a few parts I’d forgotten, but as I flipped through the pages of my own manga that I hardly ever read, I was immediately able to get back its feeling, as you’d expect of the original creator.

Also, at the time of the Hollywood movie, the live-action Dragon Ball, the script had too little of a grasp on the world and its characteristics, and on top of that, it had a conventional content that I couldn’t find interesting, so I cautioned them, and suggested changes; but in spite of that, they seemed to have a strange confidence, and didn’t really listen to me. What came out in the end was a movie I couldn’t really call a Dragon Ball that lived up to my expectations.1

That being the case, there were parts where I wanted to show some spine, with a world and story only the creator could draw.

Thank you for that, I've been meaning to look this up for awhile having recently lost the link.

I hope we get another audio clip soon.
I'd let Nakao read me to sleep.

As Herms pointed out, at least Gurd still uses it. (saru yarō no Saiya-jin)
I could have sworn that Freeza said it, though. Ah well.
Maybe I'll read through the whole thing tomorrow.

Wow. Awesome. I never read anything that expressed Toriyama's thoughts on the Hollywood film. lol.

Yeah, it was surprising. To quote VegettoEX in the article:

Hrmm, I feel like I've actually read this before. In fact, I'm fairly sure it was discussed on a podcast, too. I guess I just forget! Toriyama rubbing off on me.

Either way, thanks for posting it. That's reassuring stuff! I can't wait to hear a real Toriyama Freeza by Nakao. Oooft! Just thinking about it makes me excited.

Based on what he says, they ignored him and continued to work on and release a film with his series' name that was received incredibly unfavorably. I can understand why even he wouldn't be able to contain himself. But hey, maybe we can thank that film for his direct involvement in these new animated ones; that experience may have very well influenced him.

Do you guys think the violence in this movie will be akin to the original manga or anime? I really can't picture Grief and Desperation without classic namek violence. If people are not killed and tortured here, the z fighters would never feel all that sense of desperation they felt on namek.

I doubt it. At most you'll see some innocent people blasted into the air, but nothing like Namekians being pierced through the chest or blasted to ashes. I just don't see DBZ being violent (sans fighting, obviously) or very serious anymore.

If only the actors had some spine, the movie might never have gotten off the ground. Like with what happened to the "Akira" live-action film that was in the works a few years ago. All the actors who got a hold of the script told the studio outright that it was garbage and they wouldn't do it. They sent the script back for rewrites five separate times before they put the entire project on indefinite hiatus.

Kinda hard to say I guess. I don't really see the franchise getting that dark again, but they have 1000 Freeza Soldiers to deal with at the very least. Can they get away with letting them all live and still save the Earth from any destruction?

Despite the "despair" tagline, I don't believe that this movie will have anything overly-grim. Such a tone would contrast with Toriyama's recent work. Then again, he has a history of doing the opposite of what everyone expects, so maybe he'll turn around and surprise me.

Aw hell that would be pretty lame if none of Frieza's soldiers got killed. It's just unbelievable if they try to get away with that which I doubt they'll do. People will die.

Even though I doubt the song will be re-used in the movie. I wonder if an instrumental of Only a Chilling Elegy exists, even if only a fan-made one.

I may be misunderstanding you, but if you're doubting that「F」will play during the movie,
it's been confirmed that it will serve as an insert song.

Though, now that I reread it, I imagine you're talking about Chilling Elegy.
The period is throwing me off.
