The Shadow Dragon/Dragon Ball Overuse Punisment:A Dumb Idea?

Not sure if your being sarcastic or not, but really? turning Goku into a kid again and having him defeat every single villain in a desperate attempt to recreate the original Dragon Ball wasn't an inherently flawed/stupid idea?

Turning Goku into a kid so he can't use his full strength is a great idea. Having him be unbeatable anyway and still the Super Mega Bestest is shitty execution.

I don't think it's a good idea at all - he's not even the strongest at the time they do this, so it just feels completely pointless.

I'd also prefer Goku stay an adult, and I'd also prefer they find ways to challenge them without having to nerf them. The fact that only Goku gets nerfed basically means that the others would have to stay out of the plot so they don't stomp all over things that would challenge Goku.

It is a horrible idea. It punishes the protagonists for actually doing the right thing, and retroactively makes several characters look like total assholes.

Just because Dende, Popo and others didn't mention the consequences of over using the dragon balls, is the same argument about Battle of Gods. Vegeta knew about Beerus but didn't say anything either.. does that make the whole 'God of Destruction' thing a dumb idea too?

Personally I think having some kind of consequence for over using the Dragon Balls a fantastic idea. They might not have used them irresponsibly, but they sure has hell over used them. They were even going to give them away as a prize in Battle of Gods!

Nah it was a good idea. Elder Kai already had talk about that to Goku before Kid Buu fight and Toei took the opportunity to make it happen in GT.
The overuse of Dragon Balls making something like that is legit.

I feel the same way. I mean, we're here to discuss the lore of dragon verse. Various aspects of reading. Maybe share opinions. For me it's definitely always interesting interpretations or even to treat new knowledge.

As for me, I say no, it's not a dumb idea. Almost every saga in the original DB and the Frieza saga, the villains are always after the damn dragonballs and the constant use of the dragon balls to revive the dead in the series was starting to get really annoying and repetitive, almost got me to the point where I was starting to gave up on the series back then and thought that none of the characters would have a sense of loss until the Cell Saga came and changed that. I say that was a GOOD punishment for Goku's own good. Figure out better ways to beat the villain instead of using the dragon balls all the time and try to not wish just one person back. I wished Toriyama wrote the saga as the last saga of Z.

I agree that it does make the heroes look like selfish assholes, but isn't that what a villain is? Somebody that makes the heroes look bad? Heck, Goku can still be in denial have the argument about him and the crew using it for the "right" reasons. It's like a combination of catharsis and philosophy(and I HATE philosophy). Lemme guess, some of yall still want DB to be simple and not at least try to be 35% complex?

So lemme guess, some of yall expect the DB series to be all "Happy Happy Joy Joy! let's revive everybody in the end" all the time, huh? I say they do needed to do different shit, and IMO, Toriyama and Toei(to a degree) nailed it.

If you think about it, basically it's "shadow dragons destroy Earth because they saved the Earth.." Isn't that strange? The Earth wouldn't be there if it weren't for Goku. There should only be 1 shadow dragon, for the wish Oolong used to have an underwear on his head.

The Shadow Dragons were cool (and sometimes funny) enemies in GT. The back story behind them don't make sense. So, the Earth is punished because it was saved.... Yeah.

No it's not strange. First of all, the DBs aren't always used to save the Earth. Sometimes it's just to bring a single person back. While that's nice, they are a crutch. The Earth gets punished because it overuses magic to save itself. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing.
