You could put it on Deviant Art. :pSSj Kaboom wrote:Well, paper's done, ready to be handed in, but I wanna put it here for you guys to read, too. But I'd rather not put it as a post, since it's 7 pages long.
So can anyone point me to a good (i.e. free) file-hosting site that does word documents?
DragonBall in a school paper? What?

Well, I don't recommend putting it up until you get the paper back, if your school does that whole turnitin.com thing to check that you didn't copy and paste a bunch of stuff from the internet. But if your school isn't like mine, then yeah, I guess you could put it up on deviantart.
Now that this topic is pretty much done with the paper turned in and everything, I'd like to slightly change topic here and make this topic a general "Hey, I have the possibility to do some kind of DB work for school" thread. For my PreCal class, we've gotta make a mini poster board with at least ten statistics from something that interests you. I'm gonna do a DB theme if I can, but I think my teacher wants something more real world related

I kind of question the assumption that anime is more "respected" in Japan than cartoons are in the U.S., but it's pretty much solid otherwise.SSj Kaboom wrote:It's college; do they do that?DaemonCorps wrote:Well, I don't recommend putting it up until you get the paper back, if your school does that whole turnitin.com thing to check that you didn't copy and paste a bunch of stuff from the internet.

A nice read, but I felt you should've mentioned the changing of music in some anime, as it's part of the dubbing process.SSj Kaboom wrote:It's college; do they do that?DaemonCorps wrote:Well, I don't recommend putting it up until you get the paper back, if your school does that whole turnitin.com thing to check that you didn't copy and paste a bunch of stuff from the internet.

Hey, this would go well on the site!
There could be a 'What's Anime?' guide, and a 'Dubbing Problems' section.
Y'know, you're a good writer. I've always found that your stuff is very interesting. You've also explained some things that I've never even thought about before- which makes it even more fun:

Y'know, you're a good writer. I've always found that your stuff is very interesting. You've also explained some things that I've never even thought about before- which makes it even more fun:
SSj Kaboom wrote:Dubbing an anime, however, can often be a double-edged sword. While re-recording voice tracks in a different language has its advantages, it can often lead to problems. At times, differences in the structure of the original and target languages can result in harmful dialogue changes while "lip synching." Dub scriptwriters may find themselves struggling just to make sure a bit of English dialogue will fit in the time and length of animation allotted by the original Japanese language footage, and as a result, the original meaning or intent of a line of dialogue may be missed or misconveyed. However, the opposite can sometimes also occur: an irrelevant or even illogical English dialogue is inserted in order to fill a large space left by lengthy or complicated Japanese dialogue.
Not always...SSj Kaboom (referring to 4Kids) wrote:Practically all the series' audible or visual references to sex, alcohol, and smoking, as well as any visuals that could be even slightly misinterpreted as offensive, racially or otherwise, have been altered or removed.
Actually, I was referring specifically to One Piece with that. I never even brought up Yu-Gi-Oh.Steven Perry wrote:Not always...SSj Kaboom (referring to 4Kids) wrote:Practically all the series' audible or visual references to sex, alcohol, and smoking, as well as any visuals that could be even slightly misinterpreted as offensive, racially or otherwise, have been altered or removed.
I was also going to use Bleach and even Pokémon(There's that "é" again, eh, Tori-Bot?) as examples, but I didn't end up needing them. Thing was lond enough already, anyhoos.

It's a good essay but I'm a bit disturbed by the use of Otaku here. You defined it as anime fans when in reality it's a highly derogative term for the most obsessive of nerds....of any fandom! I understand that it's starting to mean that here in America, but I for one as an anime fan still wouldn't want to be called an otaku....and I can't understand the people who call themselves that, proudly.

As far as I can tell, in the U.S. it just refers to anime fans. In Japan, yeah, it means "fan" in general, but... we're not in Japan.Mr. Announcer wrote:It's a good essay but I'm a bit disturbed by the use of Otaku here. It's like being called a nerd, or a geek. I am proud to be a geek. It may be intended as insulting, but I identify with it -and, hey, black people called each other "nigger".Mr. Announcer wrote:It's a good essay but I'm a bit disturbed by the use of Otaku here. I've commonly come to accept that I may come off as "nerdy", so little by little it's becoming less of a bother for me.

Well, I'm into the show but I'm at the level that I don't want to be too entangled into it. The farthest I'd go out of my way with DragonBall outside of the forum is correcting comments on YouTube. I'll buy the manga and dvds but when it comes to OST, for an example, I don't see myself actually buying one of those.. thats just me.

I, for one, always title myself as a "Restrained Otaku."

You use a (rather unimaginative) internet handle, and you pull that?Mr.Piccolo wrote:Ahh, the safety of ones keyboard, hidden identity, and the guise of the internet-anonymous,eh...
I say nothing here I wouldn't say in person. I have always been against internet nicknames. That's my picture, that's my name, that's my address. Don't pull that "anonymous" shit on me.
Do you have a problem with what I said? Then address it.
