Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
Does anyone know the link to the interview where it said Goku won't be going beyond super saiyan anymore. I know it has nothing to do with this thread but still i thought this would be better than just making a new thread.

Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
Super Saiyan won't be going away competely according to Saikyō Jump's June 2014 interview:
...but we know that he absorbed god form according to his interview in the Battle of Gods Animanga:Akira Toriyama in [url=http://www.kanzenshuu.com/translations/saikyo-jump-june-2014-issue-twel-buu-mysteries/]Saikyō Jump's June 2014 interview[/url] wrote: Goku endlessly keeps getting stronger, with Super Saiyan 3 in the manga and Super Saiyan 4 in the anime; does Super Saiyan keep getting limitlessly stronger too? Might we eventually see things such as a Super Saiyan 5…?!
Super Saiyan 2 and 3 are nothing more than powered-up variations of Super Saiyan. After the fight with Beerus, Goku realized that mastering his normal state and Super Saiyan would raise his level more and sap less strength, so I think he probably won’t become Super Saiyan 2 or 3 any more.
It's also worth mentioning that Nozawa and Nakao recently performed a part in character at Jump Festa. According Japanese Twitter, people on 2chan and Herms' translation, the reading was more or less:Akira Toriyama in the [url=http://www.kanzenshuu.com/translations/battle-gods-animanga-akira-toriyama/]Battle of Gods Animanga[/url] wrote:Will Goku be able to transform into [Super Saiyan] God in the future?
I think you’ll understand if you watch [the movie], but Goku has already absorbed [Super Saiyan] God’s power and made it his own, so there is no need for him to transform into [Super Saiyan] God.

Thanks for the translations and further elaborations guys. I never considered "nebula" could be compared to our own physical galaxies. Although for the sake of the plot's consistency I rather it would translate as a planetary system. Otherwise Freeza's one-hundred something planet empire would be quite insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Also, didn't Freeza mention Earth being on the outskirts of the galaxy? It'd be kind of weird for him to be describing things in terms of the Afterlife, unless that's how DB's astronomy works too...TripleRach wrote:
I have one more question to ask about TripleRach's translations. There are several people who interpret the "galaxy" entry to mean there are "infinite" galaxies scattered throughout the living world. Could it be that it instead means the four galaxies are so big they extend "infinitely" out into space? In other words it would only be figuratively describing the mind-boggling size of a galaxy. What are your thoughts?
Entry in question:
銀河
Galaxy
A gathering of local planets in the universe. Planets gather and form a nebula, and beyond that, a collection of gathered nebulae is called a galaxy. The four Kaiou who rule over the east, west, south, and north [sections] of the universe actually govern these galaxies. Because the Kami in the Heavenly Realm and the Kaiou supervise the galaxies that exist infinitely in all the universe, the sections known as the East, West, South, and North Galaxies are denominations that came into use through their duty.

Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
悪い/warui is "bad/evil", pretty straightforwardly. However, the 今の魔人ブウほどじゃないがな/"not as much as this Majin Boo guy now though" bit could be referring both to the unnamed bad guy's evilness and strength. The wording I used in the Strength Checker makes it sound like he's talking exclusively about Boo being eviler than the evil guy who sealed him away, but it's not really clear cut like that in Japanese. I should probably get around to fixing it.
Edit: OK, fixed it.

There is an argument that says Tien is an alien. I have Daizenshuu 4 and I think that's the only part that talks about Tenshinhan in Racial Groups section. But I can not translate.

Yeah, that’s actually the passage where the whole “descended from aliens” thing is first mentioned, as far as I know. Then Daizenshuu 7 says the same thing, and from there it’s popped up in later guide books and other places here and there.Bonus Stage wrote:There is an argument that says Tenshinhan is an alien. Anyway, I saw you post that in the other thread and was going to translate it, but never got around to it. Strictly speaking, it’s not actually a rule that all translation requests have to be posted in here. I don’t think so, anyway. It’s recommended because it’s supposed to be the central hub for that sort of thing, but it’s not like we will purposefully ignore translation requests made elsewhere. If we don’t respond, we’re probably just too busy at the moment. In fact, I’m pretty bad at keeping up with translation requests in this thread. I tend to just forget about them if I don’t respond immediately.Tenshinhan
A descendant of aliens, he uses special techniques
He uses techniques one wouldn’t expect of an Earthling, like sprouting arms from his back, and splitting up into 4 people. No wonder then that Tenshinhan has a unique body structure owing to his ancestors the Three-Eyed Clan, the descendants of aliens.

Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
No, it's just a description of the technique:Bonus Stage wrote:I think the Tenshinhan biography in Dragon Ball Bouken says something about their origin. Confirm?
I do vaguely remember that there is something somewhere in the Boken Special talking about the technique which dryly notes "no matter how much you train, you won't be able to grow extra arms", or words to that effect. Basically, that Tenshinhan's ability to grow arms is unique to him rather than a technique which anybody could potentially pick up. That fits in with the later explanation that it's due to his alien ancestry, at the very least. On that note, when he uses that technique against Goku at the tournament, Goku counters with Chapa's Hasshu-Ken, which makes Kuririn think Goku's grown more arms too. But Kame-sennin notes that "there's no way" Goku could grow extra arms like that, and that Goku's merely moving his two arms around so fast that it looks like he has more. So while as far as I know Daizenshuu 4 is the first mention of the "alien ancestry" thing, the idea that there's something weird about Tenshinhan's ability to grow arms is present right from the start.Shiyo-Ken
Another one of Tenshinhan’s techniques! He concentrates power into his shoulders to produce a 3rd and 4th arm from out of his hack. With 4 arms, the attacks he unleashes have over twice their normal attack power!! When using this technique, his apparent agony as he stores up power into his body is quite striking. In contrast, the arms just instantly disappear into his back once he’s done.
(Which leads into the really amusing thing about the whole affair: the fact that Tenshinhan's alien ancestors are called the "Three-Eyed Clan" is obviously meant to explain why Tenshinhan has three eyes. In fact, it's so obvious that the daizenshuu and all the later sources never bother to say "he has three eyes because he's descended from the Three-Eyed Clan". They always just go on about how his descent from the Three-Eyed Clan allows him to grow extra arms and split up into four people. Which after a while makes you think his ancestors should really have been called the "Four-Arms Clan" or the "Multi-Form Clan" or something. It also technically leaves open the possibility that Tenshinhan really did just get his third eye from meditation or whatever, and that the Three-Eyed Clan ancestors are just a big coincidence. Clearly not what was intended, but not actually ruled out.)

Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
can someone post the original Japanese scan for this page(Chapter: 280 P9.1-4). Was there a mistranslation in the strength checker ?

Chapter: 280 (DBZ 86), P9.1-4
Context: after Goku outclasses Recoom for a bit
Recoom: “Alrii---iight! In this case, I’ll perform my trump card…I’ll tell you up front that it won’t matter how fast your run away! This blows away everything in a pretty wide area around me…”
Vegeta: “Th…this time we’ll know Kakarot's true worth…”
Recoom: ”I’ll send you all to the afterlife!”

Re: The All-Purpose "Translation Request" Thread
The bolded part of Herms' translation is accurate. Some strange wording though.
「4匹まとめてあの世に送ってやるぜ」is an obvious example. "I'll send all four of you to (the afterlife/other world) together (with this)".
There's also the typo. But yeah, aside from nitpicking, there isn't anything that I would call an overt mistranslation.

What exactly is the part in question here? I don't quite get it (apart from "your run away", of course).

Just a quick question.
That snippet from Toriyama, where he refers to GT as a "Grand Side Story," is the word "gaiden" used? Or is there another word that means "side story?"

The word is サイドストーリー, which is literally "side story" in English.Kamiccolo9 wrote:is the word "gaiden" used? Or is there another word that means "side story?"

Thanks! I'm going to assume that this usage of "side story" has the same meaning that it would in English, and not some totally different Japanese-only context I'm unaware of?FatNagger69 wrote:The word is サイドストーリー, which is literally "side story" in English.Kamiccolo9 wrote:is the word "gaiden" used?
