Since I already have these on dvd or video and I'm cheap, don't think I'll be picking them up. May rent one day though. But for Tree of Might, I guess you guys wwith the tv and uncut versions of that can now compare all three Gokus with each other in the film.

Well, I get to answer my own question. This release of Dead Zone is the exact same as the previous "ultimate uncut" version. Meaning that scene where Gohan faints has an odd glich in it. In the pioneer release, he clearly makes a *THUD* sound, but the Funi release just has an odd sound in its place(keep in mind I'm speaking of the Japanese version in both cases).

Anyway, watched World's Strongest and Tree of Might(didn't bother with Dead Zone, since I've already watched this version when it came out a year ago). The video is indeed a bit better, though there are some places where you can see a lot of grain(such as when the Tree of Might starts to take root).

So is Haiya Dragon called "Higher Dragon" or does Gohan name him Icarus again?

He calls him Icarus. I kind of expected it.

My views on the new Movie 1-3 DVDs.

Pros:
1) The actors do a good job, especially the new Tullece and Dr. Cochin. I was particularly impressed with Ms. Nadolny's Gohan yells in these redubs.
2) The covers look good to me. (If I thinpak my DVDs, I can fit both the FUNi and Pioneer DVDs of these movies in the box.)
3) Steve Simmons' subtitles are still as great as ever. Dialogue flows more naturally and is translated much more intimately than Pioneer's DVDs.
4) Kishime, Misokatsun, and Ebifurya stay their original names. I was kind of expecting them to change the names since Haiya Dragon was changed back to Icarus.

Cons:
1) The new English dub music is terrible, even worse than usual. It seems like someone just threw it in there without even trying to match the scenes or dialogue.
2) The dialogue is totally different from the Japanese in most cases (Look at Dr. Cochin's explanation of how he removed Dr. Wheelo's (Uiro's) brain, or the majority of Movie 3's dialogue.)
3) No extras for Movies 2 & 3. (Expected this, but at least Movie 1 had a commentary.)

All in all, I watched this dub once, and probably never again. I was OK for a DB FUNi dub, but it's waaaay different than what I've grown used to with these original versions. I'll stick to Daimao's subs and Mazako Nozawa, thank you.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Cool, I'm going to get this boxset when I'm in New York.

I don't mind the Funi Dub but I know there are a lot of things wrong with it. I think the Ocean cast had it more spot on but whatever. I've grown to like original Japanese too but I guess I'd have to choose Funi most of the times just because it's in my native tongue. Nothing I can do about that. (...Except learn Japanese fluently but we're not all Julians ><)

Just a curiosity. Could there have been copyright issues with Pioneer's script that they couldn't use it in the new version?

No, I don't think so. FUNi was responsible for the script after all, even when Pioneer was the distributer.

Pioneer's script was pretty close to the original anyway, so I highly doubt that. Funimation probably just wanted to make it "cooler", although the new music was pretty good at least I must say.

Gah! Quick news folks. Until this Saturday, DeepDiscountDVD is holding a sale on EVERYTHING. 20% off.

So if you want this boxset for $14.51, just enter SUPERSALE as the promotional code. That's the cheapest you could get for those three DVDs. For that cheap, I might end up grabbing it.

And a wuick link for those too lazy to go to the front-page:

-edit-
Shit, can anyone connect to http://www.deepdiscountdvd.ca/ ?

-edit-
Okay, my Internet's going screwy but DeepDiscountDVD.ca is listing the set for 26.98 CAD, which is 23.70 USD - compared to DeepDiscountDVD.com's 18.14 USD.

We hosers are getting hosed!

Since the eps with Goku v Vegeta aren't out, I was curious to ask a question to anyone who has picked up the box set.

-What was Mr. Subtitle's translation of whatever Tullece (and Vegeta) say when they throw the power-ball to the sky to create the false moon? (I think the old Pioneer was "Come forth & Combine" or something like that...) Just looking for another translation or meaning of that saying.

Vegeta's line in the Ocean dub was "Burst and mix!" I believe.

Nope. In the old Ocean dub his line was, "Let there be light!" He says "Burst and Mix!" in the English manga though. And that's in the old gn that cost $15.

Turles' line was, "Burst forth and combine!" in the Pioneer version subtitles.

That was in the video/dvd dub. Been awhile since I saw the tv dub, and don't feel like pulling it out now, but I remember him saying something along the line of "Moon beam explode!" or something.

Obviously, Vegeta is God. He created the universe with the Big Bang Attack. *nod*

Saw it at Best Buy, had no idea it was due out, bought it on the spot, watched #2 and #3 the next day with 3 friend who are casual fans and Japanese version converts, thanks to me. All I had to do was show them 5 minutes of Mystical Adventure in Japanese then switch it to the dub and now they all have no interest in the English version whatsoever.

I didn't give the dub a chance. I switched the Audio's during a Kaio-sama dialogue just to hear Sean making that hilarious voice, but put it right back. It also showed the script differences for just a moment...

Moive 2 fricken rocks. Probably one of my favorites once again, since it's been 8 years since I last saw it. #3 isn't nearly as good as I remember, probably because it...has been so long. It just dragged on and on and then ended way too fast.

Oh well. Evil Masako was amazing. I'm glad I could finally hear it.

And now I have every DragonBall Z movie, but with 3 copies of Deadzone! (ugh...)
