The appeal of the podcast?

Post by Sun_Wukong » Mon Nov 27, 2006 3:11 pm

Why do you listen to it? What's the appeal of listening to a rant of someone you dont even know? Mabey I just dont get podcasts in general.

I don't listen to any other podcasts. I listen to this because it's always something interesting to hear. News, reviews, character/plot/music discussions. It's my new weekly series :D I just wish there was a 'next episode' preview at the end.

"Ossu!! Ora Julian-sensei!"

... Sorry, that just had to be said.

But yeah, I love it for all of the same reasons. ;)

I'm guessing some episdoes aren't planned that far in advance. Plus, if something was to come up, the preview would end up sounding silly. I think Julian should do announcements like the announcer of the DragonBall series (in japanese of course). I mean you already have the intro music, why not give the full db experience.

EX and Meri sound like stereotypical anime fans and that just irritates me for some reason. I expected more of them, especially from how EX portrays himself on the forum. The main reason I avoid conventions is because of the fans, for every "normal" one, there's a dozen I cant stand.

Its nothing against them, just the type of fans. I dont even know if you all know what I'm talking about. But if you do, you know where I'm comming from.

I used to listen to it, but just stopped. I used to find it good but I guess I just lost interest somewhere down the line. I used to like it because it was the first podcast I had ever heard and liked some of the earlier topics but then I just got a bit bored of it.

The whole "stereotypical anime fan" aspect is what's appealing to me. People that share our intrests and providing a place to talk about these things. Now if Mike would stop being a girly-man and get his comeupins in Tetris DS, I'd have nothing to complain about.

I didn't "get" podcasts, either, until I started downloading a few and really got listening. Like with most people, the ones I started out with were the ex-TechTV folks' stuff (TWiT, Diggnation, later on dl.tv, etc.). Listening to voices I was familiar with and had missed was really fun, and enabled me to keep up on things I was interested in. Even better, I was able to do it at work without actually distracting myself too much from DOING work :P.

When it comes to my own podcast, I dunno how people react to it, but I think if I were a fan of the site, it would be like actually listening to the "voice" that I've been "listening" to (read: reading) on the site for years, so it's not all that much of a stretch.

So, in a nutshell, (1) keeps me entertained at work when doing other stuff, (2) I like listening to shows about things I like.

I'm not sure what else you were expecting from a show that's dedicated to DragonBall. It's not like I'm suddenly going to bust into a conversation about the significance of Sunny Day Real Estate on the indie scene of the mid-90's in the middle of Julian's thoughts on Chinese pronunciations of DragonBall names.

I actually drops dozens of hints every single last show to other things I'm interested in, but it's obvious that no-one ever "gets" them. Sure doesn't stop me, though... :D

In all respect, I was purposely not trying to insult you. I just guess I was expecting something different. I appriciate you not taking it the wrong way.

While I know you like to get a rise out of me quite a bit, no, I didn't take it that way. I can understand where you're coming from... especially since I didn't "get" the whole phenomenon back when I first learned of them.

It's not for everyone; that's fine. We always strive to do something different with the site, and the podcast is just another extension of that.

At first I didn't think I would like the podcast because I thought it was going to be JUST about releases and videogames, but as soon as I started listening it was so funny to me, to finally hear VegettoEX, Julian and Meri's voices after having been regulars on their websites for so many years.

I'm sorry I did laugh out loud when I first heard VegettoEX's voice... I didn't expect you to sound so normal LOL....

I'm the type of person who likes to just at random talk about DragonBall and I'm in bliss that there are still people doing that too, and they RECORD it, so I feel like... I don't know, unified in my fandom because of the podcast. Most of them crack me up because I hold a lot of the same opinions on aspects of the show.

I guess that's why it appeals to me... and because DragonBall is over it's nice to have some stable media for it coming out every week.

Did you expect him to sound godly?

In all honesty though, I thought he would be a pretty stiff kind of guy because of the way I thought he came across so strict on the forum. Then I heard him and his relaxed sense of humour and it totally changed the way I thought about him

I guess you have to have someone who looks after the forum and keeps things in shape though. I mean sure you can have a joke but all in all I think this is a pretty good forum because of the grammar rules and how the stupid topics get closed.

I almost expected him to sound like a drill sargent with a bad dub voice, LOL!

Though I do understand the strictness of the forum, I run one myself and there are so many blasted stupid people that really do need to be cracked down on. The censor functions are fun too.

I heard the podcast before I saw a picture of him and I remember laughing a bit. I say this because I pictured Mike to look like this, I pictured Julian being this man, and I pictured Meri as her. Don't even ask!

I expected him to sound, and act, exactly like Gendo. It was when he came out all cheerful and friendly that I became truly worried.

Alrighty then I won't Mr.Piccolo , but I think everyone has their own thoughts about what people look like.

I still haven't seen a picture of Julian yet (don't really care) as I imagine him as this.
