Whoa, calm down. All things considered, it's just an anime. The point of people saying 'vote with your wallet' isn't to say don't buy it and remain silent, but rather voice your dissent and then reinforce it by not contributing financially. Hell, it makes no sense to go, "Wow, I hate this! It's the worst idea ever! You're ruining the series!...now if you'll excuse me, I gotta go preorder it..."

FUNi will listen to the dollars, and that's a fact. A strong vocal presense and a lack of sales figures will prevoke action. Bitching and then buying the damned thing anyway on the other hand will cause FUNi to laugh and go to the bank.

It's always a gamble, people. Yeah, FUNi might pack up their toys and go to another sandbox. However, I'm willing to bet that if enough people voiced a strong displeasure with this decision and didn't buy the box, they'd "magically" find a fullscreen telecine shortly thereafter. It wouldn't be the first time a company backpeddled on a stupid decision.

I'm calm about it, I just wanted to get it off my chest because recently something annoying came up and to be honest, getting angry on some small messageboard is like, a billionth of a drop in a bucket.

As for the voting with the wallet thing, I actually find that buying it and then complaining will yeild greater results. It's one thing to get angry, say you won't buy it, and you might get them saying "well, shit, they're not going to buy it ANYWAY so who cares". If you've put the money behind it and continue to go off at them before and after the purchase, it can carry a lot more weight, because it shows you're willing to make that investment, but not nessecerally carry it out over the long term.

Sure, they might laugh and go to the bank, they may also think in the long term and realise "maybe they wont continue if we dont actually do what they, the people who are buying it, are asking". I doubt it'll happen but it just seems like themost logical choice. You also have to understand that I am simply not willing to pay R2 prices anymore, I'm not buying R4 because it's the WORST release in the world, I cant easily import the spanish releases, I dont want the R3s because of hardcoded subs, so this is the last chance I have to actually get something reasonable and FUNimation are making it god damn near impossible. Wouldnt care so much if this wasn't one of my favourite cartoons that I have not been able to own in its entirety for years because of cultural differences and absolutely stupid ideas.

It's just how Anime companies work, as far as I see. They'd rather, on a larger scale, not bother rather than fix things. Notice the outcry about FMA vol. 1-4 having awful video? Ever get fixed? Did it take 2-3 years for Madman to fix their DB related stuff (and then not do it properly?)? GITS: SAC was plagued with huge errors, bad casing and what have bandai/manga done? Sweet FA, that's what. So maybe I'm just going to try something a bit differently and if FUNimation doesn't change things when I actually give them money and say "it's as good as done, just help me out here", then they can go and get fucked for all I care. I won't be buying a single damn thing from them from there on in and just go without.

You think you have it bad in North America? In the UK there hasn't been ANY release of Dragon Ball on DVD (With the exception of 3 of the 'Big-Green' movie dubs). When the series was first released on DVD, you could just walk to your local store and pick it up. We have to import everything over here.

<rant>On a related note, I purchased 'Legend of Dragon World' and the Budokai soundtracks from Japan and I got landed with a £12 customs fee on top of the £60 I already spent. It was the first time I got 'caught' by customs and it's a product I can't even buy in the UK. I support the music industry by buying original CDs and I get landed with a f**king charge!</rant>

I actually live in Australia, and while we do have it better than the UK, it's still nowhere near acceptable. Half of the releases arent even in Japanese.

Pro-tip, if you're importing to the UK they generally sting you on anything valued over 20 pounds. If you order from say, DVDpacific.com, tell them your situation and they'll mail them to you as "software- $5".

Just a hand :)

I sent the letter to Funi yesterday. Hopefully I'll get a reply. On an unrelated note, I've just purchased the R4 Dragon Ball boxset (Episodes 1-83). I'll post a review when it arrives.

Does boxset also contain Saga Of Goku uncut episodes 1-13?

As far as I'm aware 1-13 are uncut/bilingual, but movie 1 is still dub/cut only.

Part 2 is now up for pre-order

Part 1 is here (out of stock)

What I want to know about now is region coding: will this be a purely R1 release or will it retain the R1/2/4 coding of previous releases?

Buy the Daizenshuu.

By the way, your siggy scares me. Did you get permission to do that?

Heh, that's what it's meant to do. It's there because it expresses not only my opinion, but lots of other people's. :P

Also, FUNi will most likely be releasing these DVDs without region restrictions. They did it with the original releases, why wouldn't they do it now?

All I ever see on this topic are angry rants. But other than that the FUNI remasters look better than what they originally had but they may never be on par with the Dragonbox quality :( . I might still get this box set though, eventhough the widescreen format will annoy me(I HATE WIDESCREEN!!), but the fact that it has the orginal japanese music and that the quality is better makes me want to get them. Where should I pre-order the box set from? anyone know a reliable place that is selling them for cheap?

Thanks, hope they deliver though. Wikipedia's info on the new DVD re-masters is a little limited.
