Because:
- it's exciting to have a manga version of awesome events such as Super Saiyan 3 VS Beerus.
- it's exciting to have a preview of what's to come since waiting for the TV show to get there is way too long.

Double excitement, more sells for V-Jump, more happy fans. Everybody wins.

I don't think it's much of a surprise.

First, we saw him in trailers, which are necessarily composed of early episodes.
Second, the opening clearly shows that Champa is part of the Battle of Gods arc (the opening will clearly be updated later to show Freezer and Super Saiyan God SS once the Battle of Gods arc is over to enter the Resurrection 'F' saga, and then updated once again for the Super Dragon Balls saga).

So Champa was going to appear very quickly, I think that was predictable.
Right now, it's also tempting to assume that the battle on Earth will be Goku VS Beerus and Vegeta VS Champa at the same time judging by the opening.

I was expecting Champa to show up after Freeza's death since he could be our main villain after Freeza before jumping into the 12 worlds.

Would Vegeta be a SSG? Or have his rage boost because instead Beerus slapping wife. Champs slapped her.

^ We'll see, but I always assumed that Champa was a new addition to Battle of Gods and would be utterly unconnected to the new Super Dragon Balls arc.
I think he's there to make it so that Vegeta becomes a god at the same time than Goku, making it easier to go Resurrection 'F' after the BOG arc.
I might be wrong though.

That's my feeling too. Also his presence alone makes the BoG arc different enough already.
I never really had the impression he would be the major villain of the universe 6 arc. Toriyama said he'll design tons of new characters, we wouldn't see only the big one this soon..gotta have some suspense.

As for the manga, we know by ch.1 that Toyataro isn't exactly watching the episodes or anything, he's just being given the basic information, apparently. So there's not much reason anymore to expect the next few episodes to play exactly like this chapter, other than Goku meeting Beerus and Champa showing up.

Beerus said that in the extended version of Battle of Gods, saying that he remembered having been there before and remembered there being "things called dinosaurs" that annoyed him, so he wiped them out.

Wonder if he ate any of them? He asked Whis to get some for him in episode 2 after all.

I just read the chapter, and I enjoyed it pretty well. The art in certain panels didn't live up to expectations; but it wasn't too bad overall. I'm really looking forward to finding out who Champa really is. I'm also really looking forward to the next episode this Sunday!

The translation I read wasn't spectacular, and it had lots of unnecessary cursing; but that's besides the point, I guess.

it flows not too bad. You don't feel like your missing much. I'm enjoying the manga but am definatly enjoying the anime more. It's still cool to collect tho!

It is also nice to have Battle of Gods in manga format (sort of)

Also here is a fanmanga version of the same fight (made before based on Battle of Gods)

I just read the second chapter and it was awesome
Champa and his assistant are there :o I wonder what are they planning that don't want Beerus to notice them

I liked the drawings in this chapter better than last one.
And the way the fight with Goku and Beerus played out was better than the one in BoG
There were also a few screens that were exactly like BoG :3
I loved everything of it.

Now I just wonder if reading the manga first will take a bit of enjoyment to the episode, since looks like the manga once again is ahead of events the anime has yet to present.
It happened with chapter 1/episode 1

No confirmation yet, but "mistranslation" is my number one guess. since so many of the lines are the same as the BoG version. The way Japanese is, it's the sort of mix-up that can happen if you don't pay attention to verb conjugation.
Retan wrote:Also it seems Kai pointed out waht champa is by saying Beerus is the strongest God of Destruction from this universe.
He said the same thing back in BoG, but at the time it stood out as an odd line.

Calling it now. 3-way fight over pudding cups between Champa, Beerus, and Pink Flubber.
He devolved into saying only one word. Time to hit the ol' cosmic trail.

I thought the second Chapter was very funny, especially the take on how Goku's fight with Beerus erupted. I wonder how closely the Anime will follow it...

I'd agree with you, if it weren't for the toy figure shown at the bottom right of this image:

That would be Blueberry, from the Bluma and the crab episodes on Namek...

His partner, Raspberry, was in the previous set...

That's just a random Freeza soldier and my first thought was that he looked like a crocodile.
In any case considering what Herms said, it does seem like a mistranslation. That would also mean that Whis' follow up line is one, as he apparently says "oh you did order that."

So I guess the conversation could be like this:

Beerus: Earth? Didn't I destroy all those dinosaurs with bad attitudes?
Whis: Oh, yeah, you did do that.

Alternatively it could be correctly translated and would then be a reference to Godzilla, who is known as a God of Destruction(Hakaishin) in Japan.

That's a very random character to make a figure for, I didn't even remember him.
