Indeed. I can't watch dubs anymore (and that's entirely because of Dragon Ball, go figure), but I never say that 'all dubs are bad'. Hell, most dubs are excellent nowadays, I'm just paranoid that I'm missing something - and there's always one voice I loathe. I always use FMA as an example of this: it might be the best dub I've ever heard - Al's voice is absolutely perfect. Not just, 'really good' or 'pretty close to the original voice', but perfect. Of course, then there's Ed's voice; which makes me want to stab babies.

Seriously though, they're fans, we're fans - we just have the benefit of a few years experience in the matter.

That is, of course, assuming they're actually fans of the series. If they simply show interest because 'everyone else says it's the roxorz', then they really aren't fans. It's like people who say they like Shakespeare, but have never read a play. Peer pressure is not fandom.

Thanks for clearing that up, desire. I was just taken back by the arrogance in his statement about being a "real" fan.

I'd say that lasting a week in this forum without a strong warning / ban would be a good test.

I've had a "Chuck Norris meets DbZ" FanArt in mind for months, and even have a prototype or two done already. I should finish and get it put up soon...

Well, it's aboot time I contributed something to this thread other than lame jokes.

SEAN'S LIST OF STUPID DBZ FANS AND THE DUMBASS THINGS THEY DO
  • The 11-year-old, illiterate, dub-brainwashed "fans" who ruin anime boards with their crap and give we real DragonBall fans a bad rep.

 "Fans" who are so far up the ass of the original Japanese version or some specific dub (and the music, voices, and such that go along with it) that they have no appreciation or will to even hear anything else. Yes, that version may be the best, in their opinion, but every version has it's perks.

 "Fans" who even try to assign power levels to anything past Trunks' masking his against Freeza. Toriyama-sensei stopped using the numbers for a reason, you know.

 "Fans" who think slapping two-and-a-half minutes of random, crap-quality, subtitle'd, site logo'd footage to any random Linkin Park song consitutes an AMV. Seriously, animemusicvideos.org is clogged, yes, clogged with crap like that. It's sickening. (Fortunately, you can usually track down the good ones via the "Recommended AMVs" section of the Forums)
Now, I really have no problem with DbZ FanFiction in general, as there really are some great ones out there. But of course, there are the clichés...
  • "Fans" who write FanFictions in script format. 'Nuff said.

 "Fans" who write stupid romance FanFiction. Hard as they are to track down, I have seen and read some good Romance ones. But it's the badly done Gohan x Videls (Have read good ones though), the ever-present "Bulma breaks up with that jerk Yamcha, gets with Vegeta for comfort, badabing, badaboom" (Have yet to read a unique one of these, though I've read one or two that were well done) ones, and of course, the yaois. the freakin' yaois. Hey. Fangirls. Listen up. Just because Goku and Vegeta want to beat each other up every once in a while does not mean they want... other forms of physical contact! It's just not true, completely out of character, and is just plain creepy. Ugh. So stop clogging up the archives with that crap. C'mon... Oh, and Trunks x Pans are weird too.
:!: One thing I've found, though, is that Goku x Chi-Chi stories tend to be much better than others.

:!: Also, so long as it's well written, I like my DbZ Fanfiction funny. For example, check out this author's stuff.

Now onto other things...
  • "Fans" who think that tracing official, everyone's-seen-it-and-saved-it-to-their-"My Pictures"-folder artwork and then coloring it makes them artists worthy of people's attention. Thank God most FanArt sites have the option to sort works by votes or popularity, so artists like myself who actually try to put some real effort and originality into our works will get noticed amongst the plethora of b.s.

 Former "Fans" who essentially "abandon" DragonBall in favor of so-called "better" (read: "newer") anime series in order to be "accepted" as an Anime Elitist Snob. Some of you may remember my dilemma from a couple months back with my college's anime club. If ya want an update, I never went back. Screw 'em.
...aaaand that's all I can think of right now.

I saw one thread on GFAQS today that said Krillin was over 1,000,000 (In the Cell Games no less!)and could take Form 2 Frieza. This kinda ties in with assigning people post Trunks-Frieza killing power levels too.

I was exactly like that for about a year until I played Budokai 3 again and learned to enjoy the series while acknowledging its faults.

Still, it was a rather odd thing to say considering hating Inuyasha but liking Naruto has nothing to do with DBZ....Oh well ^_^.

Meh, I don't particularly care for Inuyasha, but I don't "hate" it. I mean, everyone has Anime's that they think are overrated, and I think Inuyasha fell into that category for a while, but I don't really care either. They are all well-made Anime.

You want bad Anime? See Samurai Deeper Kyo (the Anime, not the Manga. The Manga fricken owns.) Or Tokyo Underground, which isn't very good either.

Edit: I don't really understand how Naruto has "replaced" Dragonball as the number 1 Anime. I mean, the fans haven't changed much. They all think they know everything and obsess over watching every episode everyday and more and more tend to ignore the Japanese version (thank goodness the dub is okay). But, it never appealed to me like Dragonball. I read about 7 volumes of the Manga and was like "Eh, let's try One Piece". Really, it's all the same at conventions. Instead of bad cosplayers with golden spiked hair and repetitive grunts, you have Ninja headbands and the phrase "Believe it!"

Whatever.

In Naruto's defense, that quote is nowhere to be found in the Japanese version. :) In fact, anyone who says that is either a) using it jokingly or b) has only watched it in English.

On that note, did you know that Hot Topic is making it even easier for people to do bad Naruto cosplay? In addition to the headbands, gloves and such they've had for a while, they now sell orange jackets like Naruto's (Which are actually pretty nice, function-wise), and Chunin/Jounin vests.

I've never seen one Naruto episode and I don't really need to watch it, I've seen like 30 seconds of it and that was enough for me  ...

Really? I might pick up one of those vests.

Aw, Naruto's not that bad. The manga's better in some respects (like none of the terrible filler, though some of the last year has been "okay"). In particular are the fight sequences: some are better in the manga, and some are better in the anime. Production-wise, it's above par, but it's no Death Note.

Story-wise... not as 'epic' as Dragon Ball, but it's very similar. Think Freeza saga, but with angst.

Which of course, is an ample amount of material to judge an entire series by.

I've never said that I hate Naruto or that Naruto sucks, I'm just not interested to watch it, that's all.

My mistake, the little icon at the end just made it seem a little facetious.

I know, I know, but more and more english dub fans means more and more usage of said annoying phrase.

Oh my farkileptic g00dness that Anime/Manga is the fricken best thing to happen to entertainment since Abbot and Costello. I've been addicted to the Viz Manga and Fansubs for almost 3 weeks now.

The manga gets a bit slow after the first major story arc, but it's still quite good.
The anime on the other hand - might be the best anime I've ever seen. The production quality is outstanding, the scripts are sharp and brilliantly executed, and the voice acting is top-notch. Light is Hannibal Lecter.

I mean, the whole series is about thinking and talking and writing. There's one episode with a tennis match, one episode with a gun, and over the next hundred chapters there's a couple more 'tense action' scenes. But the majority of the show is sitting around writting, or internal monolgue -and I'm on the edge of me seat the entire time.

(Trying to get back on topic) Not to knock DBZ, but... holy crap what an anime.

I find it interesting that you hate yaoi so much but found the time to actively seek out around 20 images of it. Don't you think singling out specific artists was quite rude?

Which reminds me of something else, fans who think they can rip/trace Japanese fanartists because they are Japanese. Meaning they think they will get away with it because the original artist will probably never find out. I see this on DA and it is so frustrating to see people taking credit for other peoples work.
