What makes the Budokai series extremely competitive and deep

So while I'm enjoying the hell outta Budokai 2 & 3 again after all these years(Budokai 2- 10 years, Budokai 3- 3 years since after the HD collection), this question came through my head, as some other people here said it too that Budokai's more competitive and deep. I ask how, because I honestly don't see it. There's little to no "deep" features in the games, it's just as unbalanced as the Tenkaichi series(x10 Kamehameha for example), and most of the exact combo patterns are the same too. Now there one thing that the Budokai games(3 and onward) have over Tenkaichi is that most of the characters play differently, and that's understandable, but it still doesn't negate the things I've brought up.

It's okay if you prefer Budokai over Tenkaichi, but to say that it has a "Evo tournament" feel and it's way deeper, hell nah, I disagree. Compare to the other fighters out there, Budokai's child's play. If anything Super DBZ deserves to be in that category of being competitive and deep. So tell me guys, what do you think?

Apart from the awesome cancel combo system, there's also strategy to it like Ki management, mixing up your cancel strings to throw off your opponents teleport timing, anticipating your opponents attack and countering with P+K, fake outs with cancels, and that cool trick the pros do to turn around and hit your opponent immediately after they teleport behind you. And there's also the more advanced side to the cancel system, like back dash cancelling to reset combos and all sorts of crazy stuff that requires insane timing.

To be fair, I wouldn't call Budokai 1 and 2 competitive or deep, even though they're awesome games. You could tell the ground work was there with those games, but Budokai 3 was the first to really take things to that level, and Shin Budokai 1 and 2, Burst Limit and Infinite World would follow suit.
