Can Vegeta be marked as tsundere?
Can Vegeta be marked as tsundere?
While being mean and rude toward character, tsundere secretly admires/like him or her. I think Vegeta could be marked as tsundere, while he keep yelling at Kakarot, and for long time, his desire to surpass him was an obsession, he respects him, and their rivalry helps him to push his limits. Now, if only Kid Vegeta was voiced by Rie Kugumiya

He also might be tsundere towards Bulma.

He is towards Goku and Bulma.

Definitely. I think of him as one of the origins of the tsundere, if not the origin of the tsundere character type. The way he treats Gokû and Bulma is similar to how modern tsundere characters treat the people they care about who they don't want to let know that they care about them.

Hell yeah, Vegeta is tsundere. Vegeta-chan thinks Goku-kun is totally awesome but constantly says that Goku is a "baka" to hid his true feelings, and when pressured about what he really thinks of Goku, his response will be "Urusai! Urusai! Urusai!"

Well actually, the word is supposed to be used to refer to a gradual change in feelings over time. I think that the proper definition is definitely closer to Vegeta than the one cited, and I'm sure that he could be defined as one.coola wrote:While being mean and rude toward character, tsundere secretly admires/like him or her.
I choked on my drink when I read the thread title though.

Re: Can Vegeta be marked as tsundere?
He was totally tsundere for those innocent people he slaughtered and ate.
He cared about them so much that he repeatedly tried to murder them, and repeatedly rejected easy opportunities to save their lives because of spite and pride.Chuquita wrote:Definitely. Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Lum Invader from Rumiko Takahashi's Urusei Yatsura is usually credited as the origin of the tsundere character type.Chuquita wrote:Definitely. Lum is usually credited as the original tsundere, who existed long before Vegeta existed. Urusei Yatsura ran for 10 years from 1977 to 1987 and was a major popular hit in Japan.Chuquita wrote:Definitely. I wish Viz would make Urusei Yatsura available on their VizApp. I've been wanting to read it legally for a while now. I've only seen a little of the animation.Hellspawn28 wrote:Lum is usually credited as the original tsundere, who existed long before Vegeta existed. I know they had the rights to the manga at some point, but it was long before I even knew what manga was. I think it went out of print before then too.

Funny thing is she doesn't play "hard to get" like the archetypal tsundere, or does she flip over every little thing (from what I saw).Hellspawn28 wrote:Lum is usually credited as the original tsundere, who existed long before Vegeta existed. Re: Can Vegeta be marked as tsundere?
Yeah, i think gradual change fits better, i mean Bulma is his wife,he may be rude to her and he may not show affection often, but if you are in a relationship with someone and live with them, i don't see how the love or admiration is a secret.KameRule wrote:Well actually, the word is supposed to be used to refer to a gradual change in feelings over time. Yeah, as a big fan of Urusei Yatsura (and pretty much almost every Rumic work), I'll agree that Lum seems like a weird citation, but it's generally whom I see being mostly associated with this trait.DBZAOTA482 wrote:Funny thing is she doesn't play "hard to get" like the archetypal tsundere, or does she flip over every little thing (from what I saw).Hellspawn28 wrote:Lum is usually credited as the original tsundere, who existed long before Vegeta existed. It's why I'm not really a big trope fan in genreal. I always find them to be way too far of a reach.
