Yardrat I'm not too sure about, but Metamour is probably short for "Metamorphosis", which is defined as "a transformation, as by magic or sorcery".

I don't know about a pun, but Popo himself is based off a charcter from Hindu mythology, I believe.

Except "Gero" isn't pronounced "Gear-oh"... it's more along "Geh-roh". The long list of puns in a text-file I have from Julian says, "etymology unclear. Frogs say "gero-gero" when they croak, and it's apparently also an otomatopoeia for retching. Dunno what that has to do with him, though." This is old, so he very well could know, now

Umm...I don't know if this is a fan-name or one given by Toriyama himself, but what about #17 and #18, that other name for them? Juuhachigou and Juunanagou (if that's his name)

"jûnana" (17) = "seventeen"; "gou" (号) = "number"
"jûhachi" (18) = "eighteen"; "gou" (号) = "number"

Their names are simply literal.

人造人間17号 = jinzôningen jûnana-gô = "Aritificial Human Number Seventeen"
人造人間18号 = jinzôningen jûhachi-gô = "Artificial Human Number Eighteen"

I'm not sure if this has ever been asked before, but is the name "Kibito" a pun off of anything? I also sometimes see it spelled "Kibit".

The pun was explained in a old Ask VegettoEX, though the question wasn't about it

That being said, if I had it to do over again, I would have used the spelling "Kibito," since it is derived from the word "Tsukibito" (attendant), as per my "Japanese origin" clause above. By the time I realized what I had done, it was too late to change it, however, and so the spelling stuck from there on.
