Re: Daizenshuu EX DB wiki...again
Okay Heath. Doucheness aside, I mean I think it would be easier to do what some wiki/wiki style sites do, and that's have different people focusing on different things (e.g. a group of people would focus on editing techniques, a group would focus on episodes, etc.)
I see this a lot, and it seems to work well. I mean, sure, facts are key, but I think it's easier than having a bunch of people all focusing on one bit, while things elsewhere get ignored. But mostly this would just be for starting up the wiki.
Get my drift?

Oh, you think the Grand Tour is your ally, you merely stepped into the Grand Tour. I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn’t see the Super until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding!

I hope we don't have admins bullying users for no reason when we actually have the Wiki up.

Re: Daizenshuu EX DB wiki...again
You'll have the exact same process (and largely administrative staff) on the wiki as we do on the forum. It's the exact same ideology in both places. Why would this even be an issue?Innagadadavida wrote:I hope we don't have admins bullying users for no reason when we actually have the Wiki up.
Unless you have some 14-year-old punk kid trying to litter the place with disinformation (and I'd love to see how far they think they'd get), I don't see how there's an issue at all.
Folks, don't focus on the administrative side of things -- that's for us to worry about. What we're doing is making, as we've done with our website for the last dozen years (and add to that timespan with the Kanzentai folks) the single greatest location for accurate information in the English-speaking inter-verse. Focus on the content. That's what it's all about.
Unless by "bullying" you mean "Why can't I write Tiencha?!"... in which case, yes...? You'll be conforming to an even-stricter set of style guidelines (as has been discussed) for the purpose of consistency and utmost-accuracy for the actual goal of what this wiki is going to be. That's hardly "for no reason".

I was referring to Hujio's post. I don't think this kind of stuff is very cool.

Whatever. This is what you get for making a moderator out of a guy you already banned.VegettoEX wrote: I blame the parents. And Desire.

Anyway. No one should worry about where the 'focus' of the wiki should be: everyone will focus on whatever part they're most interested in (this is one of the best parts of a wiki). And no one should worry about how the wiki will be run: it'll probably be pretty much the same as the forum. Minute stuff like that aren't worth worrying about right now.VegettoEX wrote:But hey, back to that productive discussion.
Biggest thing to discuss right now are things like name and branding. Personally, I'm not sold on any of the names or logos brought up so far, but here's a recap from the last 20 pages or so.

My favor is with Kanzenshuu EX, it better represents the unity of our communities.
This might be considered something for later, but will the articles for episode lists be called "List of episodes/chapters of Dragon Ball Z/GT/Kai" or just "Dragon Ball Z/GT/Kai episodes/chapters" and would each episode get their own article as well?

Re: Daizenshuu EX DB wiki...again
How about, erm, Dragonjiten? >_>
It, like, means stuff. Dragon means dragon and jiten (事典) means encyclopedia. That concludes our extensive three-week training course.

Above: Using Japanese gives an extra air of snobbery
Keep it short and simple and all that. Even Daizenshuu EX is "Daizex." So, like, Dragonpedia or Dragon Shinsho or even just plain old Dragonbook.
As you can see, I think "Dragon" should totally start this thing off.

I'm a community. I got, like, 2,000 hits this month. Sure, 1,994 of them was me laughing at my own articles but it counts. Regarding our two sites...
I'm picturing something on the left sidebar underneath the name that has tiny versions of two two logos, and something like "Presented and maintained by Daizenshuu EX and Kanzentai". While we DO want that branding there and noticeable, It doesn't need to be overwhelmingly in-your-face.

Totally fair enough. Better to be known as "the Wiki with accuracy" than "the Wiki run by those elitist douche-bags!" I suppose. :pVegettoEX wrote:Regarding our two sites...

Re: Daizenshuu EX DB wiki...again
Well, if we want to include the site names, have their respective logos under the Dragon Ball jigsaw globe but above the Dragonbook text. It wouldn't actually be part of the name, but it's get the whole "two great tastes tasting great together" thing across.
Now, the site logos might be too small in such a compromise but here's the thing. This wiki could have two logos very easily.
There's going to be a front page. Now, we can have a "Welcome to Dragonbook/DragonRadar/Whatever" text link which Wikipedia has but that's kind of boring. And while I have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with any of the styling, I wouldn't like this wiki to be a carbon copy of Wikipedia in terms of layout and colour palate. Dragon Ball is bright and exciting, not grey and ponderous (save for Garlic Jr.).
So, the logo on the top left, which would be around 187x204, could have the Dragon Ball jigsaw globe and the wiki name under it (as long as you don't crib the Wikipedia font, talk about cheese) while the main page, which would have the "article of the day" and all that good stuff could have a longer more banner-esque logo. Like, perhaps, the two site logos over the name of the wiki, with the globe at the end, kind of like how the one star Dragon Ball is placed at the end of the Daizex logo.

Re: Daizenshuu EX DB wiki...again
People can think of us whatever the fuck they want to think of us, but they'll damn well know that they have no other option to turn to when they want information and news that they can rely on.
Oh, kinda like right now with our two sites (except in the future with an additional info database that dwarfs what we already have
)! Just like today when people (for whatever reason, legitimate or totally delusional) don't happen to like either of our sites, guess who it is that they're linking when they regurgitate their news posts across other forums and sites?
(Unless, of course, they neither know nor care about accurate information... but that's OK. Eventually our Google rankings will outclass Wikia stuff, hopefully, and it will no longer be an issue.)

Anyway, some literally 2 minute logos here. I just "borrowed" the Dragonbook logo from a scan on Kanzentai (the GT Dragonbook as every other Dragonbook has Goku's damn head in the way) and threw it under/beside the Dragon Ball globe.

Basically, everyone should look at it and then use their imaginations to picture it better. There's some issues with the text, because it's just a quickly shrunk down and recoloured version of a scan of a hardcover book cover. But, you know, visualise, man.

Just piping in to say I love the logo. I really hope you guys don't get attacked by the Dragon Ball wiki members for being "snobs" or whatever. As for the name I personally like Dragon Radar. I hope this gets completed! I overheard someone recommend a new fan at my class to the Dragon Ball wiki for information about the show and I instinctively made a soft groaning noise. Hopefully this can cut down on the amount of misinformation out there.
