I still don't know why Spidey fans took any kind of issue with the removal of web shooters anyways. It should be a given that if I were bitten by a spider and gained certain spider-like attributes, my body should be able to produce some kind a webbing material. Even if it should happen to come out of my hiney. Personally, I think they should have used spider-sense a little more.
Back to Dragonball the movie.
Regarding story changes, I think this shouldn't be a huge change up. I think they should work off of the manga instead of the anime. I haven't read it, but I would guess the story is pretty straight fpward with not much deviation.
Dragonball isn't like most of the western comics with thirty or fourty odd years of stories with muliple retellings and alternate tellings. It's a story with a beginning, a middle, and a end. And only one version of them.
Say the movie finally gets the full green light, who would you say the target audience, as in demographic, would be? And how do you think that would affect the final product?

That was precisely the reasoning. No 16-year-old, no matter how clever, is going to be able to whip up something that not even multi-billion-dollar military weaponry corporations can't match.Rocketman wrote:Man, I thought the organic ones were better than a 15-year-old whipping up some Mega-Tech™ in his basement.desirecampbell wrote:Spiderman didn't have web shooters? Okay, I don't like it, but I can accept that.
As for target age demographic, I'd hope for it to be handled like TMNT was. Good for both the new kids AND the older fans.

That's the same reason Sam Rami decided against it, he "couldn't believe Parker could come up with such a thing". As much as I love Rami, I hate that he fucked with the character like that. Parker is a genius, and after gaining spider powers, he understands the chemical makeup of spider silk. Genius + knowledge = web shooters.SSj Kaboom wrote:That was precisely the reasoning. And this is exactly the thing I'm worried about for a DBZ movie. If the director or writer disagrees with the logic of the story.

*headdesk* a 16 year old did build the dragon radar, didn't she? Whereas the Red Ribbon Army's radars sucked majorly.
Though that fact is more easily dealt with if a movie starts at the "Rarg fighting!" parts.
... Then I remembered what Mike said he liked about Dragonball to that guy at Otakon, and realize that a liveaction movie series, especially from the US, would probably fail to capture that.

In our world people get super powers from being bitten by spiders? (Not even 'radioactive' spiders, in the movie it's just a goddamn spider.)Rocketman wrote:Yes, but Spider-Man supposedly happens in our world. And as for competent - they wear friggin' costumes. Whilst they try to take over the world. At least in Dragon Ball, noone thought they needed masks.

I can honestly say this is the first time a movie has offended me enough that I actually want to hunt down the creators to stop it from being made.Acid_Reign wrote:They are doing this:SatoSky wrote:What are they doing to Alvin and the Chipmunks and who exactly is doing it!?SSj Kaboom wrote:doesn't decide to make them all "gangster" (a-la the upcoming Alvin and the Chipmunks... there goes my childhood's innocence)
And the "they" is Tim Hill, the director of the recent Garfield movie.
I know.
And there have been a lot of bad movie ideas.
Well, if it makes you (or anyone else) feel any better, they're NOT dressed like that in the new trailer. And they're singing "Funky Town."The Lecherous Muten Roshi wrote: I can honestly say this is the first time a movie has offended me enough that I actually want to hunt down the creators to stop it from being made.

The movie's still probably gonna be crap, but at least those are tiny steps in the right direction.
I'm more looking forward to Get Smart.

Damn. Forgot about that. Yeah,Rocketman wrote:*cough cough* Great Saiyaman *cough cough*
'Retro-virus'? I dare you to make less sense. What retro-virus causes extreme genetic mutation - wouldn't they have tested this retro-virus before putting it in the spiders? And what disease does this retro-virus fight? I mean, I can accept "comic-book science", but not "stupid science".Rocketman wrote:A genetically enhanced spider whose bite contained a retrovirus.
All I'm saying is that a live action movie would get more screwed up than the dub is. I don't want to see a summer blockbuster about Goku saving New York.

The kind carried by genetically enhanced super-spiders.desirecampbell wrote:What retro-virus causes extreme genetic mutation

You'd think they'd put a fail-safe on Jurassic Park's fences, too.wouldn't they have tested this retro-virus before putting it in the spiders?
it was my impression that retroviruses don't fight diseases, esp. since HIV is a retrovirus. And what disease does this retro-virus fight?
The difference?I mean, I can accept "comic-book science", but not "stupid science".

True dat.

Hmm. I always thought the whole Spider DNA alteration and webbing without the use of the shooters were a subtle nod to Spider-Man 2099.desirecampbell wrote:That's the same reason Sam Rami decided against it, he "couldn't believe Parker could come up with such a thing". Awesome series. I'm desperately trying to find some way to read the whole thing through.

If this movie was made with cg then i think it would be ok, but if it's live then it's just going to be cheesy just like every other live cartoon movie.

I thought that too, but Rami is quoted as saying he changed it simply because he didn't like it. Thanks Sam. No, no. If you don't like it, go ahead and change it. Dick.the_abberration wrote:Hmm. Why couldn't he have done Evil Dead 4 instead? Why?!
